Omg i acctaully cried when i heard he died. He was a big part of my childhood like the teachers would always play him in class and everything. He was the most canadien person i had ever seen.......and im canadien!!! That song came on in our class the day before he died and we were all rocking out and having fun then the next day..........
If you're Canadian, you love Stompin' Tom. That's it. I've met people from every sub-culture & class & we all love him. He played the anthems of true working Canadians. RIP Stompin' Tom Conners
A true Canadian icon is no longer with us but will live on forever through his patriotic music. If you're Canadian you understand his music...if you're not.....too bad.
put my little island on the map forever....thanks StompinTom....saw him in Charlottetown many years ago when I was a kid....thought the whole place was gonna come down around us when he sang this song.....with another big load of potatoes!!!!!!!
Im 50, we had the record of this gig at the horseshoe inn as kids growin up in ontario,my parents were young scottish immigrants, we were born in fergus but went hame in 76 and that record came with us, i still cite that and johnny cash live in san quentin as my 2 first influential records as a wee lad 💙🇨🇦🏴
i remember working with a kid from pei and he always bragged about the spuds,he finally got some shipped to ft mac and ill be damned if they were the best damn potatoes i ever had, true story!!
A true Canadian icon/legend who told a story about the people/land of our great enormous and vast Country. That's why we loved him and he'll always be remembered through his songs/music. R.I.P. Stompin' Tom Connors!
Stompin' Tom's music always told a story of this great land we live in, gonna miss that. I like the idea of Tom Connor's Day too!, if the Government wont do it, we will do it ourselves, they work for us don't you know.
A statement on Connors' website read: Pt 1 of 3 "We must regretfully announce today the passing of the Great and Patriotic Stompin' Tom Connors. He died this March 6th 2013 with his Family seeing him off. His family have given us a message from Tom that he wanted passed along to all of you upon his death: "Hello friends, I want all my fans, past, present, or future, to know that without you, there would have not been any Stompin' Tom."
I only got into Stompin Tom due to Les Claypool and I’m really glad I did. I always loved Johnny Cash and man these two together would have been a powerhouse. Such similar and great styles with old folk style country... I hate modern country but this stuff really feels soulful and non manufactured.
R.I.P. The only singer that was, "like his manager said" able to reach across all fans from age 4 to 104. Your all ready being missed, now the Angels get to sit back and enjoy what we were able to, for so many years.
I love you Tom. Thank you Zach. I am 60 years old and I am rolling down the highway smiling. 13 years ago. NECRO! But this old man is happy. Now do the Irish Rovers.
My Dad was one of those Canadians lucky enough...there were a lot over the years..to sit for a few beer and talk to him. He arranged when I was 11-12 to sit a a table in the restaurant next to the night club the "Prince Edward Room" (Thank you Johny Reid) when Tom was doing a show there. My dad brought him down after a set and Tom Said Hello, I swear he was such a god to me at the time I don't think I spoke a word, just dumbfounded...I regret not saying a word to him
I would like thank you so much for posting that . It brought back so many happy times for me . I really think Mr Connors united us together like no other Canadian may rest in peace
I just got home from the Stompin Tom birthday tribute at the Cadillac Lounge. Great show! Gordon Lightfoot was there amongst others. I saw Tom at Massey Hall about 12 years ago and being from the States originally, I didn't know much about ST but when his leg started stompin, the crowd went apeshit! Been a fan ever since and so glad I escaped the Trumplandia casino 22 years ago. not to get politics mixed up with the music, of course.
Pamela Stewart that is quite an old comment. There’s no one like him. He’s one of a kind. The writers from that era in country are unmatched. Musicians were much better back in the day. And before that. Playing actual acoustic instruments is becoming blasé. Songwriting from the heart is becoming antiquated. There are exceptions but they’re hard to find
pt o2 "It was a long hard bumpy road, but this great country kept me inspired with it's beauty, character, and spirit, driving me to keep marching on and devoted to sing about its people and places that make Canada the greatest country in the world."
Connors had a vogue in Eastern Colorado. I remember seeing his records on jukeboxes out there and Bud The Spud was my fave. I remember The Bug Song too.
Saw Stompin' Tom at Horseshoe Tavern 1969/70, I believe the bass player here is the Great Denny Gerrard! Tom had loads of history in my hometown of Saint John, NB!
Thanks Zachary. Stompin Tom was a road warrior in bars and Legions, country wide. He was fiercely Canadian through and through. His show was great, 1970 I think. I made no attempt to meet him but I knew his bass player, Denny for a time. Probably filling in. Now that you identified Gerry, of course. Denny was a bit more rotund, rip.
When he was in Toronto and was a regular at the Horseshoe Tavern, he live just down the street from me. He had an old pick-up with a wooden box on the back that had a sign on it that said: " Stumpin' Tom Connors Star of Records, Radio, Stage. Fresh P.E.I. Lobster in Season. "
A top 100 classiccountrysong playlist brought me here. Proud to see the playlist author was broad minded enough to include a song from Canada's coolest musician!
my mom and grandparents got to see him live and my mom said she never seen my grandma get up and dance soo much she was the happiest she had been in decades id say
pt 2 "I must now pass the torch, to all of you, to help keep the Maple Leaf flying high, and be the Patriot Canada needs now and in the future." "I humbly thank you all, one last time, for allowing me in your homes, I hope I continue to bring a little bit of cheer into your lives from the work I have done."
All the Autotuned choreographed pretty-boy phonies pale in comparison to the down-to-earth honesty of Stompin Tom. Although I'm a rock n roll guy, a piece of my heart will always miss him!
If he couldn't stomp, he couldn't sing, and if he were regular in a place, well bye he'd stomp right into the floor. That's why he got a stomping board. And ketchup loves tomatoes, and ketchup loves potatoes!
Omg i acctaully cried when i heard he died. He was a big part of my childhood like the teachers would always play him in class and everything. He was the most canadien person i had ever seen.......and im canadien!!! That song came on in our class the day before he died and we were all rocking out and having fun then the next day..........
I was saddened too when I heard of his passing. Stompin' Tom was a patriot and truly a son of Confederation.

A true Canadian legend.
If you get goosebumps when he starts stomping you're definitely Canadian !!
I loved hearing him on the radio when I lived up close to the New Brunswick border. He's funny, and he's GOOD.

He looks like a large, long-haired, mongrel dog that doesn't do what it's told, and I mean that as a compliment. What a great song.
