Oh my gosh, how did he come up with all these. As a teacher in Pennsylvania, two buddies and I came up to Canada to do some fishing a number of years ago. Fortunately, but by accident, Stompin' Tom was having a concert one of those nights at a hockey rink - help me out - near Lake Nippising (close to North Bay I believe) where we were staying. I had never heard of him, let alone seeing or hearing him. But after eating at a restaurant, we saw there was a concert. We were looking for something to do, so we went. I am so glad that we did. Wow, did he put on a show. In fact, it was so good I think I purchased every album and box set he had there. I couldn't wait to get home to play them, and play them I did. This would have been around 1975. In fact, having taught high school English, I used some of the lyrics to his songs in introducing creative writing, and the kids loved them. I know he passed away some time ago, but having seen and heard him perform, there was no doubt Stompin' Tom loved Canada and all its people. But as an American, I can also feel the love he generated to Canada and all the great people who live there. I don't know which I enjoyed more, fishing for Walleyes or seeing and listening to a great concert. As a side note, I think that on that same billing was Wilf Carter. Don't mean to go on, but listening to these songs also brings back some old memories of when my wife Marcie and I had one of our last vacations together before she passed away from cancer some years ago, was the great 10 days we had traveling and staying in both Nova Scotia and P.E.I. and getting to see a number of places Tom makes reference to in "Ca-na-d-a" What a country! You can all be proud!
His music is the only Canadian music that makes me wish I didn't grow up in the big city. I do love the idea of walking by the Eaton centre and seeing them shoot this scene with a cow and a classic red truck
I’m a yank and I love Stompin’ Tom. An old band mate of mine used to play in another band before the one I had with him that was based in Canada. He used to show me all sorts of fantastic Canadian folk and country. I loved every bit of it, but Stompin Tom towered above them all. It’s a pity he’s largely unknown outside of Canada because his music is a true treasure. I would even say he is probably one of the greatest North American songwriters ever, if not among the greats throughout the world.
The Johnny Cash of Canada. Such a great song writer. Would love to hear what Tom would have to say about the state of Canada, these days. I'm sure Justin would be getting a heck of an earful lol
Stompin tom is the wind he's giving this country alegasae of forever of Canadiansongs that will never end Thay will go on forever and forever never to end
