As a building maintenance worker now retired, I did this kind of work on many occasions. I don't miss it but for some reason I like to watch somebody else toil over it.
I used to do this job 20 years ago. I LOVED IT. There's definitely something satisfying about unblocking a drain. If I ever come away from HGV driving I am deffo going to look at getting back into this kind of work !.

There are cases like this decided in court -- worse than just negligence -- This is gross recklessness : The quantity of cement deposited in the drain is not merely reckless -- The quantity of cement deposited in this drain is so considerable as to be malicious -- The perpetrator had to have known that the quantity of cement which he deposited in the drain was likely to create a most serious congestion. I suggest that a magistrate would actually enjoy inflicting a proper penalty for compensation upon the perpetrator! How often has the perpetrator done this sort of thing before? The plaintiff may not even need to retain counsel -- He would have the sympathy of the court.)
Don’t forget it’s a cash cow when his name is passed on for doing a great job, sending all of the blockage further down the line, I am a retired plumber, old school, remove the blockage, it’s the right thing to do.
Stumbled across this video, glued to it end to end. I am retired now and live in Portugal, but sometimes got involved in this type of work back in the UK when I was working some years ago. Although we never had this type of sophisticated kit it is such a good feeling when you unblock a drain. Very determined mate credit it to you! 👍👍👍
You say great job, the poor guy has been pooping himself, first it was a broken drain, him loosing 20m of hose if the pipe was broken the likelihood of the hose going any further is remote. So now his drain is running free and he is happy, so when he goes to the pub and tells his tale, later when the flushed blockage collects further down the line the cash cow starts all over again.

I have no knowledge of plumbing -- however I find the process of getting to the bottom of any serious mechanical problem -- (under the guidance of an expert) -- absolutely captivating -- (even while eating dinner -- I can't tear my eyes off the screen).
This guy prays for dumb people like you, he cleared the customers drain but failed to do the right thing, he wants the debris to flow into another blockage, where his name will pop up for doing a good job, when he has created the problem further down the line, sorry he is a cowboy stay clear of the cash cow……
As a tip. When you’re trying to pull a cover out that’s been sanded, use a small flat blade screwdriver and a vacuum to loosen and remove the sand before trying to lift it.
This was not a cement problem. This was the owner putting fat and wet wipes down the sink and toilet. It was also clear that the house rainwater was connected to the sewer pipe.

A few years back my local council found traces of dishwasher salts in our local rainwater drainage canal. They went to every house in my borough and found several homeowners had connected dishwashers and washing machines to the guttering downpipes. Many of them had built extensions to the rear of their properties, and added utility rooms. Sewer pipes were hard to get to. They had taken shortcuts, and plumbed the waste water into the nearest pipe, which was the rainwater pipes. All of them were sent fines and demands to correct the issue. Many had to dig up their gardens and driveways to install new pipes, because the sewer manholes were at the front of the properties. Cost them thousands.

It might be worth getting a camera. Wessex Water will look at your sewage blocksges and dont usually charge. So if the pipes are blocked or damaged by some sort or builders, etc. What is your option/advice to your customer? Also, you must charge him for your work. presumbly, this is an indurance issue? I asked our water company up north to come out to a blockage, they said as it wasn't an emergency, it would go on the standard list with a wait time of 4-6 weeks! An emergency was classed as being hazardous to health i.e. sewage in the house. She said your garden could be full of sewage up to your back step but still wouldn't be classed as an emergency if it wasn't coming in the house! Me and neighbour cleared it ourselves, couldn't wait that long!

You might want to re word that. It kind of sounds like you are saying the homeowner shouldn't throw any toilet paper down the toilet without first eating it
He perhaps cut the pipe so that he could see better down or into it regarding whether water was pooling inside, that he might not have been able to tell from via the access point.
Good theory, but when I showed him the access point, he said he did not know what it was, which to be fair, if you don't do drainage or your not a plumber chances are your not going to know what it's for.
Question: that should be a public drain, otherwise it wouldn’t be connected to the neighbour’s side of things. Unless I misunderstood everything, you found cement in the drains, some cowboy builder using the drains to get rid of excess materials. Is there no legal obligation to inform the water authority? If that drain blocks for good, it will cost hundreds of thousands to replace.

How did the cement go ‘up’ the pipe? Gravity goes down. Of course, if they have collapsed/crushed the pipe, or filled in another access point, different. Saw a video a few years ago where the entire street had blocked drains, and someone had found a ‘hole’ in their garden, so filled it in. Clearly not the smartest bunny in the hutch.

If you watched it properly, I said if its left in the drainage pipe, it would go hard, by flushing it through the interceptor to main sewer, it cannot go hard as too much water flowing through.

Because it was liquid cement, not solid, so could only pull it back towards interceptor

I suggest the old bumper style car jack or a regular hydraulic car jack you hook a chain around it and to the handles and start pumping

always have set of commercial drain keys and 3ft of scaffold tube. great vid , makes you wonder who has he upset in the past

Correct Andrew, The plastic lifters are not vey strong on most drain lids, No way of lifting this up without snapping them.

It’s beyond me that you find cement, mush it in your hand then throw back down the pipe then say it will probably go hard in couple of weeks.
If you watched it properly, I said if its left in the drainage pipe, it would go hard, by flushing it through the interceptor to main sewer, it cannot go hard as too much water flowing through.
