Another great video. From someone who lives by themselves, popping one of these one when I'm cooking, cleaning or just day to day stuff is like being apart of a discussion, especially when it's around topics I enjoy myself, as sad as that probably sounds 😂😂 appreciate it guys
same
Superman The Movie reviewed by Superman and Lex Luthor?
I do feel like a heathen. As a child I didn't know which Superman was which. I only knew I liked the one with Pryor in it the most. I haven't watched any of them in an age now but it's usually scenes from "the one with Pryor in" that come to mind when thinking of the Superman films.
Both keys.......... At the SAME TIME?!!!
I love Superman the movie. It's become a bit of a period piece due to its age but retains all of its charm and magic.
I sometimes like to dream about all of the potential sequels we might have had from Donner/Mankiewicz had the Salkinds not acted so irrationally.
Richard's head is a monument to cranial architecture
I want to know what made Duncan so chirpy.
IamSnorlax Trill?
@@voodoochile333 I enjoyed that comment you posted pretending not to know my name despite stalking our videos for 18 months and then deleted, we love having you around! 🤣

everytime someone says 'doner cut' I just think of a kebab shop. sheeessh!
I rate the new dark gritty reboot of your intro and outro
It was directed by Zack Snyder
Written by David Goyer
@@Sam_Montgomery Scored by Hans Zimmer
Duncan vs Richard: Broadcasting of Val Verde
@@Sam_Montgomery They'll be back as friends in Injustice League
When Christopher Reeve does his flyby before the end credits and smiles at you, when I see that bit, 😢 but 😊 also.
I find it so comforting. Christopher was and always will be Superman.
@@HoustonSoto, I think Henry cavill would like to do that type of superman, maybe they'll give him the chance
Adore the new intro! Now I just want a 24/7 Val Verde propaganda channel.
Much like Batman (1989) Superman (1978) is a movie of it's time. I absolutely love it. What most people nitpick about it, I find adds to it's charm. I totally get why people say this or Batman no longer hold up, but you have to understand the context of where the characters were at the time and how movies were made back then. Just like Batman, I love this movie for what it is and what both have done for the comic book movie genre.
that intro is getting a like already 😂😂
Wait Duncan isnt usually sat on that side of the room? Whats going on guys this is all wrong? Im unsubing again!
Duncan’s crazy this week 🤣🤣🤣🤣😆😆😆😆😆😆
You’re correct Rich, Kirk Alyn was the first live action superman who turned into a cartoon when he flew. Kirk Alyn also appears as Lois Lanes Dad along with Noel Neil as her mother from a deleted scene on the Smallville Locomotive. TV version of Superman the movie I believe and the 2001 special edition.
Another cracking video guys! Here's a stupid fan request. Next time you do a Superman video, get Richard done up as Gene Hackman and Duncan done up as Superman. Mainly because I want to see Superman with his super Impersonation powers and Richard just being the evil super genius we all know he is.
Richard's been buying up whole swathes of The Fens as he has a dastardly plan to turn it into Val Verde, a tax haven and gambling resort.
Thumbs up just for the first 40 seconds.
Still a great movie. Yes there are a few issues, like the whole flying can you read my mind thing, but it's still well done overall. It has an honest and open quality to it that's pretty refreshing today. Yes Man of Steel looks better but Chris Reeve is a better Superman. He really got what made Superman a role model and hero. It's hard not to be charmed by his performance. That along with the amazing music, the scene where he leaves his mother still brings a year to my eye,and Donner's ability to keep the whole thing together, help it to rise above the standard fantasy film. I'm going to watch the 4k blue ray soon with my 9 year old niece and see how it affects a new generation. She actually liked Tron so I think she'll like this.
New intro & outro animations and a fancy new camera. The Val Verde Dollary Doo is strong post Bexit.
Ah Superman. The best superhero. Come at me Bats.
Superman 2 (theatrical) will always be my definitive Superman movie
I agree with you guys it has aged but still love it and as Richard said it is the benchmark for any other super hero movie that followed shortly after
A film massively enjoyed by Sty Afflicted Superman Bummers everywhere
Remember that other guy that used to tag along with Richard and Duncan who never shut up about Superman? Captain Whatshisname?
his name was [MR BLACK]
I found Oliver on UA-cam because of my love for Superman. Oliver led me to Richard and Duncan. I may never have found this channel otherwise.
Walter_the_Wobot Facts. Some people are fickle with short memories
I never had a falling out with Oliver Harper. I watch both channels and enjoy both content. Hopefully we can all do the same.
@@werdna_sir I appreciate Richard and Duncan's feelings, as they were personally involved, but as just some viewer on YT I like both channels. And at least it's allowed R&D to totally maximize their voice and vision. I love it for that.
I’m excited for this one.
I do love when Duncan talks about movies that he loves, especially Superman .
Get him on Bond Val Verde!
New intro sequence is great, love it. Actually hurt myself laughing when Richard offers to lend Duncan his superman comics lol 😂 too funny. Felt like we were in the 6th year common room for a minute there ha ha! Such a nice mate 😊. The animated series I think is the definitive Superman that everything should be measured against, the early movies are just too dated for me to enjoy now. I hate the flight sequences, even as a kid in the 80's I thought they sucked but its still better effects than the recent Justice League movie ha ha
I'm not buying that front projection that everyone goes on about. The lighting really doesn't match. I came to Superman as an adult, but it's always looked fake for me. Like Superman flying in front of a cinema screen, which is basically what he's doing.
First thing that came to mind?
"In december 1978 saw the release of Superman The Movie"
I remember having to listen to grammatically incorrect voiceovers like that just so I could get to the entertaining stuff with R & D.
What a tosser 😂
I have to say I noticed that error a few times too.
I always prefer Superman II over the original, even though the Niagara Falls scene was a bit daft, but not as daft as Lois pulling a gun on Clark Kent & shooting him in hopes of bluffing him in to revealing he’s superman.
What was also daft about superman II was that he lost all his powers because he fell in love, not because he altered history.
What I thought would’ve been better, was that Lois was on the verge of dying, he angrily flies her to the fortress of solitude, demands that the fortress to heal her, but the price for that would be that he would lose his powers.
Which then would give the second story more time to concentrate on a powerless Clarke Kent, where he could easily be injured sending doubt in to Lois’ head about him being Superman, in come the 3 kryptonian villains to over take the world, superman defeats them in the end, giving Lex Luthor the perfect reason for America to turn against Superman, & all aliens with fear & propaganda as he runs for president.
Thats a much better idea!
They also filmed her jumping out of a window and Clark using his Super Breath to blow her slowly onto an awning. Of course she didn't see him do this.
My first memory of this film was watching it on TV and being scared shitless by Superman screaming and flying away after Lois "dies".
I have an early memory of Superman 2 and the Kryptonians messing up Metropolis. Scared the hell out of me, thinking superhumans who looked like normal people would come to Earth to mess with humans and the Army couldn't do a damn thing to stop them! It was a chilling thought for a young child, more so than if they'd been conventional monsters.
Before I properly gets into this video. I cant wait until you tear this film apart and say how overhyped this film is by a certain someone.
UPDATE. Fair play you were actually respectful to it.
I didn't like 1 or 2. Neither felt like a comic book movie. But I saw 3 when I was a kid and that shit? THAT was a fucking comic book movie. And Superman 3 is the only Superman property in any medium I give even the tiniest shit about. Aside from 3? I think I actually like Supergirl more than any of the other Superman films. Peter O'Toole was great in that. "Want a squirt?"
And yeah I know 100% what you mean about that fuzzy quality to the shots.
Will say this much, though; more peak John Williams. Every bit as good a score as Indy or SW.
First off I love the feel of this movie, and how it introduced the comic book to cinema, plus John Williams score, but can I just put out there that I hate Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor and also fuckin Otis! The humour is atrocious. It's like a succession of Dad jokes. It kills the hard work put in on setting up mood, and any threat. Hackman is a marvelous actor, but he was miscast and mis-served by bad dialog and direction. For all it's verisimilitude, it's very much a children's film (in all ways).
Havin dig at the humour from sup.2 but didnt sup.3 have the traffic light men fighting lol wtf
J world - I believe we were more having a dig at the humour in II because it jars with the rest of the film and what Donner shot, creating a tonal mismatch. III is a Lester film from the ground up, so it’s part of its DNA.

@@ValVerdeBroadcasting oh ok, u didnt say that so thought u were saying u prefere 3 cause of the humour in 2?? Thats y i thought what!! One thing we can agree on there isnt & dont think in our lifes we will ever c a better sups or anything that comes close.

@@gerrard3166 And that's DC Comics official word on the matter
Ooooh an upgrade!
Hope you guys cover Superman II and the Donner Cut, I believe the Donner Cut to be the superior film, would love to hear Richards thoughts at length
Superman III would be fun too
Still the high water mark for this genre.
Duncan's 40 second intro here is the high water mark for UA-cam
Like the new intro!
please do superman III after this.
Superman the Movie : It might not have aged well, and let’s not mention the ending... however... There are some amazing bits...
1. Chris Reeves perfect performance as Clark and Superman
2. STILL the best intro to a Superhero of all time ‘You got me, who’s got you’
3. The Score, that f#*king theme (All time best? Indian Jones, BTTF, Ghostbusters or Star Wars might disagree) Plus the first 60 seconds of ‘The Planet Krypton’ Jesus Christ!!!!!
4. It’s still got that feel good factor in bucket loads. (That Nostalgia kick)
Best film score ever imo
Great points. The Krypton theme gives me chills every time - similarly to "The Penitent Man" from Last Crusade (music when they reach the grail cave).
Asking my barber for the "Duncan Casey"
"It hasn't aged very well"....well what the fuck does. Sorry Richard but you are wrong, Superman the movie is a masterpiece of cinema.
All sorts of things age well, like wine, other things don't; like uncooked chicken and Superman The Movie.
-R
Let us know if/when Duncan reads All Star.
It's "today we're 'think abouting'" you twot!
The plotting is by far my biggest problem with this movie
I'ts still brilliant, the greatest score ever, great Lex, great Superman and it was the first film i ever saw at the pictures aged 4.
One dislike........
It was Zod
The new intro has got me hankering for an It Ain't Broke episode of either Red Heat or The Hunt for Red October. Just imagine all the impressions you could do, R&D. I can almost hear Duncan's Scottish-Russian accent.
P.S. Was Duncan referencing anyone with his weird opening statement/mime? Say, a certain quiffed Superfan?
Shame Richard Donner didn't get to finish his vision. On behind the scenes docs he mentioned an interest in directing III and IV. At least there are two classics to enjoy.
He was offered 4, but thank god he did Lethal Weapon instead.
”Mr black” made me Loathe this movie for a time.its a good movie But it hasnt aged that well. the sequels are god awful and i Dont care what anyone says.
My belief (the same one i've had since i was 5) is that the yellow cellophane S is a manifestation of the fortress' defense system.
"We used to play this game on Krypton" What you talking about Clark, you left when you were a baby!
@@davidjames579 I guess Kal feels like he experienced life on Krypton via the holographic crystals during those ten years after leaving Smallville?
Superman 3 for the win.
I think the last 15 years of Superhero movies has made S:TM look especially dated and of its time. Until the Nolan/MCU era kicked off I think this movie was holding up nicely. Nowadays people take the genre so seriously that they wouldn't accept a film with this tone and style.
However there are wonderful elements, such as the performances, the score, the character writing. For a long time superhero movies were pretty weak, so Superman The Movie, along with Batman 89 were the standout examples. Anyway, let's hope we see a great Superman movie in the near future. I won't hold my breath though.
It was groundbreaking flawed ending yes.
Flawed yes. But it's held together by Chris Reeve's performance. One of the best screams in film.lol
@@kellinwinslow1988 I'm not really a superman guy I prefer the bat. I understand how special this one was but after that a sequel that had two cuts I have not seen 3 and 4. Superman Returns first ever superman film i saw and as they said a sorry of remake which is maybe why it didnt quite work. I saw the dceu ones they just got worse.
@@josh72456 I also love Batman. Have a bunch of his comics and the Nolan Films are great of course. It's a shame that Superman Returns was your first one. I could see that giving you a bad first impression. You didn't miss anything by not seeing 4. 3 is ok,has a few good parts. You should check out 2 sometime, probably the normal version.
@@kellinwinslow1988 3 I understand has a few dark moments because superman has a dark side. Yes I know that 4 is bad. I dont hate superman returns its watchable but it doesn't quite work. I think I saw the donner cut of number 2 some interesting elements.
@@josh72456 Yes you heard right. 3 does have a really good part where he fights himself in the middle of the film. Superman Returns just failed because it didn't try to do it's own thing. The Donner cut of 2 is interesting but incomplete so it doesn't quite work. In all honesty the Superman animated series from the 90's is probably the best depiction of him on screen.
