I think it would've been interesting if Hagakure died in the third chapter and Ishimaru was the main suspect because, you know, he didn't talk. Ishimaru didn't had to die, Hagakure is dumb and Celestia could've manipulate him easily to kill another character, plus, it would've been interesting to see Hifumi and Ishimaru pointing the blame on each other because they both "love" Alter Ego.
@Crimson Fox they chose taka because taka’s death was how is grandfather fell from being prime minister. Taka’s grandpa was prime minister until he got caught in a scandal and same thing with taka in the third trial. Taka got caught in the false claims of harassment by Celeste which led to his death. His death was to give taka despair because taka never wanted to make the same mistake as his grandfather.

yeah, just in case you misinterpreted my heavy sarcasm there, I find that danganronpa tends to overly rely on FTEs to develop characters that have plenty of screen time to do so in the main story. @@BlubberMaker I find that to be a problem with a lot of games that have some kind of system of character leveling up system to see their backstory. Persona and Fire Emblem to name a few. It tends to feel like a lot of characters get their spotlight then are pushed to the back and never contribute meaningfully to the story or change with it after that.

Shuichi on the other hand always looked at the bigger picture and even if people thought a certain person was the culprit, he never eliminated the possibility that it could be another person. He would also never side with someone because he was their friend. He always sided with the person that made the most sense.

He was one of the more logical and smart people in the class trials along with Kokichi, Keebo and Ryoma and it really sucked that his motive was so... weird and illogical.

I love how Nagito's character is so well written and he's possibly the smartest character in the series, bringing so much more entretainment to the game with his crazy ideas, like, that fifth chapter and death were the best in the series but I hate the way his fanbase treats him like a poor boy who doesnt do anything right and wants to fuck Hajime, like sure, the ship is a thing, but some people take it to the extreme

every chapter 3 class trial killed some of my favorite characters- THH: Kiyotaka ( I was also really disappointed with Celeste's poker face since she seemed interesting at the beginning) DR2: Hikyoko (i was seriously looking forward to her development since it seemed like she was going to follow the redeption arc of Fuyuhiko) V3: Korekiyo ( I have been headcanoning for over a month to help myself from just dying inside)

Honestly, yeah but Makoto is literally the beacon hero for the series so they couldn't just kill him off, and most of his plot armour is actually explained as people genuinely liking him too much to hurt him, and even when they try his luck is there to prevent it, honestly a way better explanation of plot armour than I've really seen anywhere else. If you want to point out egregious plot armour look at Kyoko, Shuichi or Kokichi. Those three have the most plot armor in the series without even a shadow of a doubt.

As a Kokichi stan, I agree with you that he made things really interesting and fun whenever he was involved with something, but I honestly hate how he was basically turned into a meme to the point that people can't take him seriously anymore. I'm also still upset when I found out that he wasn't a survivor. I wanted my boi to live and not die like *that*.

fr- in general the fandom tends to make everything a meme, which isn't inherently bad, but more often than not it clouds people's judgements about a character (specially with rival-like characters such as Kokichi, Nagito and even Byakuya) and people entirely seem to forget about what and who they actually are, often making them into a big caricature of a certain trait they pick it's a shame bc Kokichi's actually one of the best characters in the franchise imo
Honestly, I like that some characters that would be relevant to the plot die, while others of irrelevance live. It really shows that anyone can die, no matter how important they may seem.
It’s a good way to betray expectations “ok so they gave this character a lot of development there’s no way they’re gonna waste it on a character that’s gonna di- and they’re dead”
I don't really think that ever happened it the series, most characters kinda fell right into the classic "next victim" motif, they would start to develop and show of characteristics that directly lead to their death and clues in the trial for how and why they died. It was never a "I'm useful so I can't die scenario" if was always I'm standing out right now so when I die you know exactly why. Then the so called irrelevant characters magically become relevant at the end of the game just because they need to be even when they don't provide anything and honestly have shitty characterization as a whole, big examples being Sonia and Himiko.
I hate how the devs didn’t use the rule where the second murder doesn’t matter, it would’ve been interesting to see what they would think of korekiyo if someone else killed Angie.
V3 in a nutshell, motives don't matter, characterization doesn't matter, not even the plot matters. The third trial in that game wasn't the only big example of the motive being pointless, every other motive was pointless too and had little to no relevance to the plot other than the fourth trial. V3 had so many problems and the motives or rules not mattering was probably the least impactful issue.

Sure in theory it was also the fact they knew the mastermind's trap door but honestly why didn't Kaede just say "I was trying to kill the mastermind, I didn't think it would kill Rantaro." She could have explained herself and actually gotten out or gotten a pass for it, and it would have actually been a unique way to get rid of a character or two or even keep her the protag when she killed someone. In the end it actually had no bearing on anything for that chapted and they had to make a secondary motive to murder.
@@skylightsblade9468 I agree with you. Danganronpa V3 had endless opportunities to create amazing & unique scenarios with the things they presented, but in the end they flush all those ideas down the toilet to create suspense and drama. It was a pretty good game, but had a tons of wasted potential.
This pretty much sums up my feelings about every character. Especially Chihiro and Taka, neither of them deserved to die. Now that I think about it, none of the characters deserved to die, both those two were my favorites.

There was a bit more to Hifumis. Celestia manipulated him into thinking taka r@ped her. He was willing to kill someone because he hurt his “only friend” I honestly cried when he died.
I could not agree more with the Korekiyo comments. His design, voice, and overall personality is SO. DARN. CAPTIVATING. Yet they threw it away to become this easily-despised character that you couldn't feel remorse for. His character intrigued me to the point where I ended up searching the web and spoiled EVERYTHING for myself- yet the chapter STILL had me in shambles for about a week. It angers me to tears what they could've done with him instead.
Despite his faults, he is still one of my favorites. Partly because I'm an anthropology student myself, and also because of how entertaining he is to watch from time to time. And if there's any consolation, according to the final twist, there's a possibility that he never did all those murders in the first place

mini skirts are more flowy than most people think they are! As a girl, a lot of people underestimate them, the absence of closings and legs make them far loser than others! Plus since it’s shorter and the knees can bend easily, making it perfect for aikido! Plus in the 1500’s all men fought in togas, so why can’t women fight in skirts? No idea what they thought they were doing with that flower thingy though...

Hifumi didn’t kill Taka just because of Alter Ego, there were other factors, he was also told the Celeste was “manhandled” by Taka, and that his life, along with Alter Ego’s, was also in danger.
See I was SO disappointed when Ryoma died. I loved him so much. He was wise, smart, a very supportive character and his backstory (you know which one) was so sad. He could have had such amazing character development and it really doesn’t help that he basically understood what Kirumi was going to do and decide to sacrifice himself. COME ON MAN MY HEART
I love how he's that one guy who I probably have the most respect towards of the entire series and how he is a good oddly designed character. I hate how he died at Chapter 2.
I loved so many things about Angie and her conflict with Tenko, especially in the first half of the 2nd Trial. Angie and Tenko are awesome examples of belief vs logic. Angie’s irony as a religious character, fell on the logic side. “You May think you’re protecting Himiko, but what she really is the culprit? We’ll all die. Are you really okay with that?” Imma be honest, Tenko was kinda pissing me off at this point where she protected Himiko for no reason other than her infatuation, but she would rather get herself and everyone else killed if it meant protecting Himiko. Turns out she was right, but she had no actual reason to believe it. It was a really well written conflict that had me picking a side and had me lose. It was fun!
1:35 I mean, she WAS about to get executed. The reason she got caught was kinda stupid, so I’d be frustrated like she was. 5:32 i think she died because she was closest to Mikan along with, and mikan killed her to bring despair to herself because she was brainwashed by Junko, and,, yeah. Allow me to help you with the Tsumugi part- Love: her design, her talent and how she actually managed to hide her role as mastermind for so long while still being directly involved in the game Dislike: how little confirmation we got about whether or not the stuff she said in Trial 6 were actually true
It's pretty confirmed (100%) that she lied, but not to what extent. It could be everything she showed and called the truth was a lie, or it could be just about them being there by their own will... but if she can lie about them being there by will, she can lie about everything else easily, we just can't get the actual truth accurately when there's brainwashing in the plot, and the meta-theme of the VN doesn't help...
The only thing I hate about her is her plain personality. Like a fly posed on a wall. You can't say she's extremely cute, or maybe fairly reserved, or enthusiastic, or lovely or anything in special. She's like her talent, a fake thing. I didn't feel like her being the mastermind were incredible or "woke". Pretty simple, tbh. If you told it was rantaro all the time or Kaito, or even Akane, I think I would've cried absolutely terrified.
Personally still not sure how to feel about her. She's was hina's more annoying clone for me at first. But then i play it again after some time and trying not see her like that. Yeah. I see her in different light's now but still can't say it's interesting for me
(My opinion) Akane and Kazuichi are absolutely useless throughout the entire story, Kazuichi is only a teruteru 2.0 who isn't as ugly as him, I have no idea whatsoever on why the devs made him a survivor, it would've been better for Kazuichi and Hiyoko to switch places, (Hiyoko x Mahiru) Akane does absolutely nothing but eat and make trouble, I think the only damn reason she survived is because of nekomaru's sacrifice (don't know who she would switch places with.. Possibly Nagito? Chiaki?), also not to mention they took Hina and made her even more absolutely useless with the name Akane
Rantaro is my favorite character because he’s genuinely kind and wants to protect the people around him. Also can relate to every self deprecating comment he makes about himself.
About Kiyo and Tenko: I love how Tenko is extremely determined, and even cares about males sometimes, but still, i hate how she gets angry everytime a male breathes near her And Kiyo was just the greatest character for me, his design is cool, his personality is cool, his sprites are cool, his voice fits, his murder was very creative and he said a lot of cool folkloric stuff in his free time. What i hate is not about him, but about the fandom: how most of people just reduce him to "crazy incest man", and a lot of them don't know he was ABUSED by his sister, who even betrayed him in the end, by throwing salt at him with Monokuma during his execution. And i also hate how his execution is underrated. I mean, everyone's talking about Kirumi's execution, but i think Kiyo's was worse

Well, hifumi didn’t really kill because of the AI entirely, Celeste manipulated him and also lied to him about uhh Taka assaulting her.. which also contributed big time to his drive to kill him
Yeah I did feel like had Celeste not manipulated Hifumi, he would've calmed down after a bit and not killed Taka. Celeste got to Hifumi when he was emotionally charged and basically fueled his desire to ACTUALLY kill Taka for her own plan.

I thought of her as the best, most intelligent, wonderful woman in the world before my world came crashing down and i had the realization that she treated me like dirt. Korekiyo believing he was in love with his sister makes sense to me. I just hate how he’s boiled down to a “sWEet hOmE aLAbaMa” character when it’s likely that he was abused. He’s my second favorite character in V3, behind Rantaro and Rantaro only edges him out because I find Rantaro comforting for some reason. I don’t know exactly why but I got attached and cried when he died.

I think the reason why Taeko (Celeste) lost her cool I'm the third trial was because she knew for a fact that it was a life and death situation. She probably wanted her dream to come true before dying so...that's prolly why she freaked out
As someone who has Korekiyo as their favorite character, I agree with the hate thing. We don’t talk about Chapter 3. It never happened, it skipped to Chapter 4 and my husband is still alive and well with no murder in his eyes whatsoever.
Yeah, chapter 3 always does a diservice to the killer. The killer just has to look sooo bad to justify them killing 2 people, so much so that it makes them unrecognisable. With Korekiyo, if he HAD to be the ch3 killer, I'd perfer it if he killed out of a misguided attempt at kindness. Something like "this place is literally hell, we'd all be better off dead', so he tries to kill everyone but only got 2. That way, he can still be totally insane, but at least SOMEWHAT sympathetic in his actions.

Ok I’m going to be honest with you guys. Tsumugi is one of my favorite characters because of how much of a weeb she was, and I could relate to her at times. And others may not like it, but I really enjoyed the reveal on chapter 6. If there was something I hate about her it could be what she did. While it did make things a butt ton more interesting, it just hurt me. I don’t think Kaede deserved that. Other than that, her voice actor got on my nerves sometimes.
Shuichi Saihara Love: How he’s probably the least bland protagonist out of the rest of them. He has a talent and an interesting backstory. You can relate to him (that might be the kinnie talking). I also really love his design. Hate: how the fandom thinks of him. He so much more than an insecure protagonist. I also hate how the fandom thinks of his pregame as a pervert, manipulating, obsessive insane man. Plus I hate how much pressure they would put on him and how the characters would overestimate him.

Honestly, while i do love how Angie might be one of the single smartest and most interesting characters in the entire game once you figure out what her character is actually about, i hate how the game locks most of her depth behind not only Free Times, but also having you piece toghether the information you learn from Free Times with some information you really only get hinted at during Ultimate Talent Development.

TW: Mentions of abuse (sexual), incest and murder Just a rant about Korekiyo Korekiyo is a character I really love because of his voice and how mature he does seem at times, and hos most things he say are super interesting and they stuck to me. What I do *hate* is how no one even mentioned him being basically *abused* by his sister and was just thrown in for character and that's it. If you do all Korekiyo's free times, you get more and more story and see how he's really messed up in the head. Being sexually abused by his sister, his sister forcing her dream into him. They basically used the sister as a joke in his execution. I was just sad, and angry, that no one has addressed that and they all mostly hate him because of his incestuous relationship, that he did not consent too, with his sister. Now this bring me another point, it's mostly used as a joke. Which implies the whole "males can't be raped" opinion (which is not true) Korekiyo was forced in this relationship, and him being young he didn't understand that this relationship with his sister was wrong. Korekiyo is mentally ill and he lost himself after his sisters death. As you can see his Tulpa. (Tulpa is a concept in mysticism and the paranormal of a being or object which is created through spiritual or mental powers, basically he fabricated his sister in his mind) Even after death, he was followed by his sisters influence because of the whole "100 friends" thing. All Korekiyo is known if for his incest relationship, and the "Seesaw" effect joke. I'm not saying that it was bad, I'm just saying I wished they gave more attention to Korekiyo's dilemma *Spoilers* And even with the whole "Danganronpa doesn't exist, it's just a TV show, you are fake, everything about you is fake" I still would have loved to see some character development where Korekiyo can break free from his sisters influence and see what his sister did was wrong and that he is his own person and that he was abused.

It tends to feel like a lot of characters get their spotlight then are pushed to the back and never contribute meaningfully to the story or change with it after that.

I personally think that Shuichi was a better protag because remember when Kaede literally l i e d for the sake of people not thinking it was Shuichi. Like sweetie I love you but if you want them to think it's not Shuichi then give good arguments to justify it. Shuichi on the other hand always looked at the bigger picture and even if people thought a certain person was the culprit, he never eliminated the possibility that it could be another person. He would also never side with someone because he was their friend. He always sided with the person that made the most sense.

Meanwhile Kaede was really optimistic,which is good,but how she trusted her friends so much was dangerous.Possibly later she could learn to not be like that,but I really do think the twist of Kaede being the culprit was good,considering how much confidence it gave everyone,and the development it gave to Shuichi.Plus,we finally get to have a protagonist dying,which is pretty refreshing.

Honestly, yeah but Makoto is literally the beacon hero for the series so they couldn't just kill him off, and most of his plot armour is actually explained as people genuinely liking him too much to hurt him, and even when they try his luck is there to prevent it, honestly a way better explanation of plot armour than I've really seen anywhere else. If you want to point out egregious plot armour look at Kyoko, Shuichi or Kokichi. Those three have the most plot armor in the series without even a shadow of a doubt.

fr- in general the fandom tends to make everything a meme, which isn't inherently bad, but more often than not it clouds people's judgements about a character (specially with rival-like characters such as Kokichi, Nagito and even Byakuya) and people entirely seem to forget about what and who they actually are, often making them into a big caricature of a certain trait they pick
it's a shame bc Kokichi's actually one of the best characters in the franchise imo

Honestly, I like that some characters that would be relevant to the plot die, while others of irrelevance live. It really shows that anyone can die, no matter how important they may seem.

I don't really think that ever happened it the series, most characters kinda fell right into the classic "next victim" motif, they would start to develop and show of characteristics that directly lead to their death and clues in the trial for how and why they died. It was never a "I'm useful so I can't die scenario" if was always I'm standing out right now so when I die you know exactly why. Then the so called irrelevant characters magically become relevant at the end of the game just because they need to be even when they don't provide anything and honestly have shitty characterization as a whole, big examples being Sonia and Himiko.
I hate how the devs didn’t use the rule where the second murder doesn’t matter, it would’ve been interesting to see what they would think of korekiyo if someone else killed Angie.
V3 in a nutshell, motives don't matter, characterization doesn't matter, not even the plot matters. The third trial in that game wasn't the only big example of the motive being pointless, every other motive was pointless too and had little to no relevance to the plot other than the fourth trial. V3 had so many problems and the motives or rules not mattering was probably the least impactful issue.

Sure in theory it was also the fact they knew the mastermind's trap door but honestly why didn't Kaede just say "I was trying to kill the mastermind, I didn't think it would kill Rantaro." She could have explained herself and actually gotten out or gotten a pass for it, and it would have actually been a unique way to get rid of a character or two or even keep her the protag when she killed someone. In the end it actually had no bearing on anything for that chapted and they had to make a secondary motive to murder.

I could not agree more with the Korekiyo comments. His design, voice, and overall personality is SO. DARN. CAPTIVATING. Yet they threw it away to become this easily-despised character that you couldn't feel remorse for. His character intrigued me to the point where I ended up searching the web and spoiled EVERYTHING for myself- yet the chapter STILL had me in shambles for about a week. It angers me to tears what they could've done with him instead.
nah seesaw man is still amazing regardless, he can go up there with Yoshikage Kira as one of the most entertaining serial killers in fiction.
Despite his faults, he is still one of my favorites. Partly because I'm an anthropology student myself, and also because of how entertaining he is to watch from time to time. And if there's any consolation, according to the final twist, there's a possibility that he never did all those murders in the first place

mini skirts are more flowy than most people think they are! As a girl, a lot of people underestimate them, the absence of closings and legs make them far loser than others! Plus since it’s shorter and the knees can bend easily, making it perfect for aikido! Plus in the 1500’s all men fought in togas, so why can’t women fight in skirts? No idea what they thought they were doing with that flower thingy though...

Hifumi didn’t kill Taka just because of Alter Ego, there were other factors, he was also told the Celeste was “manhandled” by Taka, and that his life, along with Alter Ego’s, was also in danger.
The main reason is still that he took Alter Ego. That's literally the reason why she selected Taka and Hifumi as her targets.
See I was SO disappointed when Ryoma died. I loved him so much. He was wise, smart, a very supportive character and his backstory (you know which one) was so sad. He could have had such amazing character development and it really doesn’t help that he basically understood what Kirumi was going to do and decide to sacrifice himself. COME ON MAN MY HEART

I loved so many things about Angie and her conflict with Tenko, especially in the first half of the 2nd Trial. Angie and Tenko are awesome examples of belief vs logic. Angie’s irony as a religious character, fell on the logic side. “You May think you’re protecting Himiko, but what she really is the culprit? We’ll all die. Are you really okay with that?” Imma be honest, Tenko was kinda pissing me off at this point where she protected Himiko for no reason other than her infatuation, but she would rather get herself and everyone else killed if it meant protecting Himiko. Turns out she was right, but she had no actual reason to believe it. It was a really well written conflict that had me picking a side and had me lose. It was fun!

Love: her design, her talent and how she actually managed to hide her role as mastermind for so long while still being directly involved in the game
Dislike: how little confirmation we got about whether or not the stuff she said in Trial 6 were actually true
It's pretty confirmed (100%) that she lied, but not to what extent. It could be everything she showed and called the truth was a lie, or it could be just about them being there by their own will... but if she can lie about them being there by will, she can lie about everything else easily, we just can't get the actual truth accurately when there's brainwashing in the plot, and the meta-theme of the VN doesn't help...
The only thing I hate about her is her plain personality. Like a fly posed on a wall. You can't say she's extremely cute, or maybe fairly reserved, or enthusiastic, or lovely or anything in special. She's like her talent, a fake thing. I didn't feel like her being the mastermind were incredible or "woke". Pretty simple, tbh. If you told it was rantaro all the time or Kaito, or even Akane, I think I would've cried absolutely terrified.

Akane does absolutely nothing but eat and make trouble, I think the only damn reason she survived is because of nekomaru's sacrifice (don't know who she would switch places with.. Possibly Nagito? Chiaki?), also not to mention they took Hina and made her even more absolutely useless with the name Akane

I love how Tenko is extremely determined, and even cares about males sometimes, but still, i hate how she gets angry everytime a male breathes near her
And Kiyo was just the greatest character for me, his design is cool, his personality is cool, his sprites are cool, his voice fits, his murder was very creative and he said a lot of cool folkloric stuff in his free time. What i hate is not about him, but about the fandom: how most of people just reduce him to "crazy incest man", and a lot of them don't know he was ABUSED by his sister, who even betrayed him in the end, by throwing salt at him with Monokuma during his execution. Well, hifumi didn’t really kill because of the AI entirely, Celeste manipulated him and also lied to him about uhh Taka assaulting her.. which also contributed big time to his drive to kill him
Yeah I did feel like had Celeste not manipulated Hifumi, he would've calmed down after a bit and not killed Taka. Celeste got to Hifumi when he was emotionally charged and basically fueled his desire to ACTUALLY kill Taka for her own plan.

It’s often that people will romanticize their abuse in order to cope. I did that with my mother. I thought of her as the best, most intelligent, wonderful woman in the world before my world came crashing down and i had the realization that she treated me like dirt. Korekiyo believing he was in love with his sister makes sense to me. I just hate how he’s boiled down to a “sWEet hOmE aLAbaMa” character when it’s likely that he was abused. He’s my second favorite character in V3, behind Rantaro and Rantaro only edges him out because I find Rantaro comforting for some reason. I don’t know exactly why but I got attached and cried when he died.

As someone who has Korekiyo as their favorite character, I agree with the hate thing.
We don’t talk about Chapter 3. It never happened, it skipped to Chapter 4 and my husband is still alive and well with no murder in his eyes whatsoever.
Yeah, chapter 3 always does a diservice to the killer. The killer just has to look sooo bad to justify them killing 2 people, so much so that it makes them unrecognisable.
With Korekiyo, if he HAD to be the ch3 killer, I'd perfer it if he killed out of a misguided attempt at kindness. Something like "this place is literally hell, we'd all be better off dead', so he tries to kill everyone but only got 2. That way, he can still be totally insane, but at least SOMEWHAT sympathetic in his actions.

Ok I’m going to be honest with you guys. Tsumugi is one of my favorite characters because of how much of a weeb she was, and I could relate to her at times. And others may not like it, but I really enjoyed the reveal on chapter 6. If there was something I hate about her it could be what she did. While it did make things a butt ton more interesting, it just hurt me. I don’t think Kaede deserved that. Other than that, her voice actor got on my nerves sometimes.

Just a rant about Korekiyo
Korekiyo is a character I really love because of his voice and how mature he does seem at times, and hos most things he say are super interesting and they stuck to me.
What I do *hate* is how no one even mentioned him being basically *abused* by his sister and was just thrown in for character and that's it.
If you do all Korekiyo's free times, you get more and more story and see how he's really messed up in the head. Being sexually abused by his sister, his sister forcing her dream into him. They basically used the sister as a joke in his execution.
I was just sad, and angry, that no one has addressed that and they all mostly hate him because of his incestuous relationship, that he did not consent too, with his sister.
Now this bring me another point, it's mostly used as a joke. Which implies the whole "males can't be raped" opinion (which is not true) Korekiyo was forced in this relationship, and him being young he didn't understand that this relationship with his sister was wrong.
Korekiyo is mentally ill and he lost himself after his sisters death. As you can see his Tulpa. (Tulpa is a concept in mysticism and the paranormal of a being or object which is created through spiritual or mental powers, basically he fabricated his sister in his mind)
Even after death, he was followed by his sisters influence because of the whole "100 friends" thing.
All Korekiyo is known if for his incest relationship, and the "Seesaw" effect joke.
I'm not saying that it was bad, I'm just saying I wished they gave more attention to Korekiyo's dilemma

And even with the whole "Danganronpa doesn't exist, it's just a TV show, you are fake, everything about you is fake" I still would have loved to see some character development where Korekiyo can break free from his sisters influence and see what his sister did was wrong and that he is his own person and that he was abused.
