Sitting in the heart of the Shawnee National Forest, Jackson Falls is one of the busiest hubs of outdoor recreation in Southern Illinois. Known as the “Best Kept Secret in Illinois” this place is home to some of the largest seasonal waterfalls and streams in the region. Locals flock here every summer to escape the heat and wade in the natural pool below the towering North Falls. This canyons 70 foot sheer sandstone cliffs and 4 miles of trails draw in rock climbers, bouldering enthusiasts, equestrians, mountain bikers, and hikers from all over the region.

Buddy and myself did the trail 49 two days of walking trails. Can't wait to go back. No water running, very dry. Was early October. We have a March 7 day trip planned.

Aside from the scrambling, all of the hikes here are short and pretty easy!

Do you know if there is a trail between jackson falls and bells smith springs or is that a drive only situation?

@brookandholler5499 you're right you have to bush it but you can if you stay in the creek off private property. I went 14.46 miles from teal pond to jackson falls to teal pond. The red trail is awesome
