I am absolutely thrilled by the new generation of music lovers that are discovering and falling in love with this legendary band! Loving your reaction! Keep up the journey of discovery!
It makes me cry in such a happiness way, not only for my memories I experience when I see these videos, and missing him sooooo much . But to see so many young people appreciating him in the powerful ways they are . WOW!!!!!!!!! 🙏🏼🇺🇸
FYI - The true story of how Queen got together is this. Roger Taylor (the Drummer) and Brian May (Lead Guitarist), while they were attending Uni, were both in a group called Smile with Tim Stafford (Lead singer & Bass guitarist). Freddie was in a different band called Ibex, later renamed Wreckage, which played "very Hendrix-style, heavy blues" while he, too, attended Uni. It just so happens Freddie was studying Graphic Design at Ealing College which Tim Stafford also attended studying Graphic Design. Freddie and Tim became friends. Lots in common. Tim introduced Freddie to Roger and Brian and Freddie started following Smile's performances at the clubs. Freddie would come back after Smile's [erformances and, according to Roger, would congratulate them on their performance and then begin telling them everything they should do to make it better (lol). They all became good friends. Roger and Freddie even shared a flat and ran a booth at the Kensington Market selling "Vintage" (used) clothing. (Actually, that where Freddie first met a struggling David Bowie and they became life-long friends). Anyway, Tim Stafford was offered the Lead singer/Bass position in another band called, Humpty Bong. Tim left Smile. Brian and Roger were thinking of giving up but Freddie convinced them to continue with music. They started looking for a new lead singer. Oddly, neither Brian nor Roger had actually heard Freddie really sing. What they had heard, according to Roger, Freddie sounded a bit like a billy goat (Freddie did have a very high-frequency vibrato - more like an opera singer). But Freddie had decided that he wanted to play with Roger and Brian and he talked them into giving him a chance. Freddie took better control of his vibrato and Brian and Roger began to realize what an amazing singer (and piano player) they had. Now all they needed was a bass player. They tried out 5 or 6 before they selected John Deacon. The others, if they played well, their personality didn't mesh and if their personality meshed, they didn't play well enough. Luckily, John was an excellent player and though quiet, he was independent enough to hold his own against the other 3 who were all very strong and independent themselves. Queen never had a leader. They were 4 independent and talented musicians who had a varied taste in music. Besides playing, they all wrote music and all 4 had hit songs.
OMG! Freddie's vocals, Roger on those drums. Brian on the Guitar and John on that Base, how could you have anything but perfection?? These 4 guys were so amazingly talented and gifted. There will never be another Freddie Mercury. He is an Iconic Rock God. The stars aligned the day those 4 men got together and the world got to experience the greatness that was QUEEN! There is a great comment below that explains how they got together so i wont say it all again but I love this band and I love and miss Freddie Mercury every day. I don't know how much Queen you have reacted to already but if you haven't reacted to You Take My Breath Away live from Hyde Park 1976 or White Queen live From The Odean-Hammersmith 1975, Please react to them. They are beautiful songs and Freddie's voice is incredible.
It’s funny. Vocal Coaches would say the crack in his voice near the beginning is an imperfection but I think it happens at the perfect moment and adds so much emotion to the words. Really love this version.
He had cracks because he had vocal nodules and he was sick at this time (begining)! Real Music is made of imperfections and mistakes, we dont want autotune, we want singers who sing with their souls... There is only one that can bring magic with his voice, his name is Freddie Mercury the best singer of all time!
Cracks does sometimes add emotion. You can do it on purpose as well. He could have removed this crack or overdubbed it if he had wanted to but he did not.
Great reaction! It\s true you can't take your eyes off of him, no matter your gender... he commands the stage. Yry Save Me, another beautiful vocal , live at Montreal and Love of my Life, live at Wembley,,, so many more fantastic songs to discover...
The passion, intensity and genuine energy... whilst undoubtedly this applies to Freddie ... today I am also referring to your reaction .. excellent 👏👏👏❣️.
This was the 12th, they did a show the night before, in the rain, and Freddie had a cold. Still amazing, but the Budapest performance is better imo. Back in the old days bands weren’t put together by people in suits. They found each other and worked their butts off for years to get where they were.
Brian and Roger were in a group called Smile while still at the University. Freddie and Roger had a second hand store in a trendy shopping area in London. Freddie was in a couple groups while at College also. Freddie use to go to the college concerts and see Smile. Brian said that he use to give Brian and Roger suggestions after every performance- lol. Smiles lead singer left because the group wasn’t really getting anywhere. Freddie said in an interview that they were thinking of finding another lead singer and Freddie laughed because he was right under their nose being that they were friends and even sharing apartments. Freddie never had a voice lesson in his life. His vocals were not as strong at the very beginning, they were wonderful, but not as strong until Freddie studied other singers and learning breath control, which obviously he mastered. Freddie is a once in a lifetime. His vocal octave range is even something scientists can’t explain. I’ve been addicted to that voice since 1974. I’m thrilled that you have been introduced to the GOAT! If you think he hit high notes at this you must hear Freddie doing EXERCISES IN FREE LOVE, which was a recording he did to take to Spain while meeting with an Opera diva to discuss a collab. It will blow your mind. Also, the history making Live Aid performance in 1985 which is still ranked the best live rock and roll performance in history.
We are damn lucky to have these concerts recorded. Many shows were recorded for audio & they are wonderful. Seeing them execute takes it to the next level. The studio cut is very different. Wonderful, but very different. The reworked more than a few songs to great result.
Please do Freddie and Montserrat Caballe singing Barcelona. I was blown away and I am not at all a fan of opera but just like Freddie she took my breath away and the two of them together, unbelievable!
I am a Freddie Mercury junkie, can't help it love love Freddie! Queen will be forever thee best band. PERIOD!! RIP "OUR DEAR SWEET FREDDIE" Never forgotten🌹

Mark, someone below requested Bohemian Rhapsody and you indicated to them that you'd already reviewed it. True enough, you have, but this is the one instance when on the Queen journey, you have to also watch the official version. Find the one with over a billion views ( that tell you anything? :) ) This version is a must for two reasons # 1 as Debra Bolling explained to you, they were 4 independent and gifted individuals who collaborated, coming up with the Queen sound together, but this particular video and song is exclusively Freddie's baby and #2 -Bohemian Rhapsody, studio version, is a trip. I love your enthusiasm for Freddie and Queen! This song makes me very emotional because I know his life is about to change dramatically! But you know what, in spite of his illness he is living forever. I am old enough to have seen them in concert a dozen times and I still love them just as much today.
Freddie worked with Roger while they were both going to college. Roger was in a band called Smile, with Brian. Their lead vocalist/bassist quit and Freddie who was doing gigs around town asked to sing with them. They were friends so they decided to give Freddie a try. According to Roger, at that time Freddie was a little timid with his singing but Freddie formed himself into the vocalist he envisioned being the frontman for the band and named the band QUEEN. It worked out, but later they needed a bass player and after trying about 6 they finally found John Deacon and QUEEN became QUEEN and a force to be reckoned with.

What's sad, is yes, they stayed together until he died, in just 5 more years. At this point he knew he had HIV, but wouldn't be diagnosed with full blown AIDS until the following year, 1987. This would be his last year of stage performance and some would say his and Queen's best year of performance.
