Thought I'd upload this since it was pretty hard to find... anywhere. Volume 2 Coming Soon™. Please tell me if you notice any errors in the timestamps or anything else. Enjoy! :-) Edit: Volume 2 is uploaded now! Check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/3vPLMkIS1zU/v-deo.html
I've got the cassette that part of this was originally released on. It was painted gold and came with a deck of playing cards, each card featuring a different picture of Mark.
I got one too. I bought it new. I ordered Devo's DNFTF from the local record store, and the guy at the counter said...well, I have this from Mark if you're interested. Came in a log light green (wasabi) box in Japanese. It was outrageously expensive for a cassette at the time...I think like $25...I didn't hesitate and bought it. Years later I met Mark Mothersbaugh after a Devo show in DC...we talked about the cards. He got a kick out of the fact I still had them. Nice guy, Mark.
I can hear where the seeds were planted in his film work, and notably Rugrats scores here. Supposedly the creators of Rugrats wanted to use this album straight up as the music for the show but he convinced them to let him make new songs.
In the show in its early years, Mark used the Fairlight and a Roland D-50, and Roland sampler for the vocal samples and custom toy piano. Also a Roland U220 synth/rack module. Later on a E-MU Proteus 2 was used starting in Season 2. You also hear Prosonus brass samples and Roland SR-JV rack module stuff. I can say Mark's work on one of the most popular NickToons is brilliantly experimental and a craft that stands out on its own.
The first time I saw DEVO was in 1978 at the Wintergarden in Dallas, Texas. It wasn't the last! I have seen these devolved men fourteen times now and I still have the t-shirts from every show. And all the vinyl they produced! :-) I'm 65 years old now and God willing I hope to see them again. As always, ARE WE NOT MEN AND WOMEN? WE ARE DEVO !!!
I wanted to add that if you remove the insert from the CD cover, unfold it, and put it under blacklight, it will floresce revealing hidden art. Really cool!!!
This human here is eternally grateful for this extremely rare piece of work from the master Mothersbaugh Muzikal Soundwave Multiverse! Mutato Potato in my head? YES PLEASE!!!!
"Chechi" sounds like the music that plays at the end of "Pee-Wee's Playhouse" when he's riding his scooter down the highway and the credits are rolling.
Apparently this was originally going to be the soundtrack for "Rugrats" until Mark Mothersbaugh decided to just make new songs for the show instead. But you can definitely still hear where the sounds and general tone of his music for the show comes from.
i guess it shouldnt be so surprising that so many new wave & electronic musicians were friends, even overseas, but finding out about a connection between two artists i know about separately always tickles me :))
I discovered both of these albums when they first came out. I had Vol 1 on cassette tape, totally wore it out. I'd love to replace it with a CD, but I won't pay the price, (found it going for $57, $93, $106... NFW will I pay those prices.) Maybe some day I'll find it cheaper, but probably not --- This is music that goes with ANYTHING. I never get tired of it, nor does it ever get old!!!
Wow, thank you very much! This is a treasure and yeah, it's almost impossible to find, so it's also very really appreciated the download link! I love electronic music, and Mark is one of the very best of all time. So, I enjoy this a lot.
Wow! The first time hearing this. Mark is a musical genius. His dad sort of called it elevator music. This is much deeper than elevator music (slowed down rock hits). This is unique and original and evocative.
My parents took me to see DEVO at the Inglewood Forum, when I was about 11 years old. Freedom of Choice had just been dropped, and I had been listening to the band for about 2 years prior...One of my all time favorite bands! Thanks, Mom & Dad! Question: Does anyone know what the partial image is in the video? Thanks!
Sounds like it came out yesterday. This is what that sappy commercial music tried to evoke when they wanted happy sounds. Those commercials are dreck. This is compositional genius gold.

Thanks bru! We're glad you did.
Thank you! I have it on a cassette tape only. Certainly hard to find.

What I wouldn't give for that

I love XP27, such a dreamy piece of music. It brings back sweet memories. Thanks Mark Mothersbaugh!
The first track has a nice minimalist quality to it. The repetition is comforting and the variation is enough to keep me engaged and attentive to it.
It’s very Philip Glass-y
this is absolutely brilliant Mark Mothersbaugh is a genius
absolutlely, magical work by my fav artist ive been listening to this for 30 years and its still brilliant, nearly as good as my stuff haha.
Chechi is the most beautifully innocent and adorable piece of music I've ever heard. Brought a silly ol' tear to my eye
It sounds like the music that plays at the end of "Pee-Wee's Playhouse" when he's riding his scooter down the highway and the credits are rolling.
Why am I just finding out about this? Better late than never, I guess!
healing tones.. .
Same! And I'm a big MM / Devo fan!
Bru. For realz. Me too!

I love when I stumble onto cool shit 😎
Rugrats definitely pushed me to love Mark and DEVO.
Great companion to my Eno stuff... I hear his DEVO upbringing here. Yay, more work-from-home music!
at around the hour and nine minute mark, the real fun begins. Mark is many things, but a humorist may be at the top of the list. So grateful.
This really brings to mind stuff like Jazz from Hell by Frank Zappa. Wonder if Mark is a Zappa fan
This really is brilliant music that feeds the soul of greatness!
"Chechi" sounds like the music that plays at the end of "Pee-Wee's Playhouse" when he's riding his scooter down the highway and the credits are rolling.
Bravo! Standing by for Vol.2 He could release 10 more volumes and I wouldn't mind. I really enjoy this stuff. Thanks
Chechi, Xp27, Xp39 and Rojaero are my favorite tracks... but, I can listen to this album nonstop over and over and over again.
Apparently this was originally going to be the soundtrack for "Rugrats" until Mark Mothersbaugh decided to just make new songs for the show instead. But you can definitely still hear where the sounds and general tone of his music for the show comes from.
An interesting take on XP28 was made by MM's friend Hajime Tachibana with his song "Ma Ticarica", worth checking out!

I've been searching for this album since 2012! Thank you! ^-^
modern classical musical masterpiece
Wow, thank you very much! This is a treasure and yeah, it's almost impossible to find, so it's also very really appreciated the download link! I love electronic music, and Mark is one of the very best of all time. So, I enjoy this a lot.
Thank you so much for this!!
i love Mark Mothersbaugh!
Mark Mothersbaugh is like the reincarnation of Glenn Miller living and growing in the new age
Wow! The first time hearing this. Mark is a musical genius. His dad sort of called it elevator music. This is much deeper than elevator music (slowed down rock hits). This is unique and original and evocative.
His dad..... ^_^ Shout out to General Boy!
This music certainly won't put you to sleep. You will stay up for days trying to analyze it.
Awesome, big thanks for posting!
His childlike personality emerges especially vividly on “Chechi”.
Cant believe these are on here. Just picked both cds up. It sure is awesome sounding. Pairs well after playing Melvins albums for most of the morning.
Just such an amazing album
Thank you, this is brilliant music
Well, I wasnt sleeping anyway. Might as well listen. Thanks!
When cassettes were popular, this came in a cool packaging
So cool to hear this again!!
This is a neat album!!
Thought I would add a comment just to run the number of them up to 76. From a true Devotee -4- Ever
I miss devo can hear the genius at work❤️
Still is really hard to find. Thanks bro!
Kinda reminds me of R+7 By Oneohtrix Point Never.
This is good, thank you!

One of the best albums ever
Rugrats vibes 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
XP31 is almost like Growing Pains if you really think about it.
Sounds like it came out yesterday. This is what that sappy commercial music tried to evoke when they wanted happy sounds. Those commercials are dreck. This is compositional genius gold.
Reminds me of Zappa Civilization Phase 3
¡Hermoso!
Finally! Thanks!
Sweet!
This cd got me to sleep going through Navy Nuclear Power School back in 1989
XP32 speaks to my soul
XP29 encapsulates every single thing I am
Have you ever listened to The Most Powerful Healing Muzik in the Entire World? Can't find it anywhere 😞
Half of these songs sound like they would be music for town hubs in a late 1990s PlayStation RPG
2:03 Somehow this song reminds me to Halo.
xp27 - RPG town music...!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Where did you find it? Thank you a lot!
WE are DEVO
Check out music for insomniacs by Matt Berry...
Don't get me wrong Mark Mothersbaugh is an original genius!! Devo is 🔥🔥🔥
Hi mark.
2:04 Bass Pattern
This album is totally Philip Glass vibes
👂 🌎 🌏 🌍
Do you happen to have The Most Powerful Healing Muzik In the Entire World?
I'm sorry, but unfortunately, I do not.
@@twilaight Thank you regardless!
i am here after playing rift apart
Is this a masterpiece from a musical genius or the instrumental ravings of a lunatic? You decide.
He is his own but if I had to I'd compare him to Fripp.
Japanese scales of Steve Reich
The first track reminds
me Of Gates of Steel and
Time Out For Fun
But in a different frame of mind
Supberb !
XP25 kinda sounds like a slower version of Camel By Camel
Longtine Devo fan-Sorry Spudboys, I am about 45 minutes in and this just isn't doing it for me...EZ Listening Muzak is better...
Got this CD but never got really into it.....not my cup of tea I guess ..!
