They did it. They solved the biggest problem with delay pedals

- Rainger FX just released the new Echo X, which is the world's first gated delay pedal! This Rainger FX pedal is an updated version of the original Echo-X from 10 years ago, and it now includes the GATE function, which is a solution to one of my biggest problems with delay pedals -- your mistakes repeating over and over again. When playing through the new Echo X, if you make a mistake, just muffle your strings and the gated delay will stop!
Thank you, Rainger FX, for sending me Echo X!

The pedal will still remember your mistakes, it won't repeat them but it will still remember them, the pedal never forgets, Emily, it never forgets 😦
Lmfaooo it’s secretly a blackmail pedal that will use your mistakes against you!!!

@@cactustactics this made me laugh out loud lmfao
My secret is to compose music purely made from mistakes… so it’s like, totally seamless.
😂
So, like Nickleback?
@@AndruJorj the melodic choices of Nickleback, but as really fast Phillip Glass style arpeggios.
So jazz!
@@swaggedup6934 Jazz, but every instrument is a broken sega genesis.
The old school way of dealing with mistakes is play the mistakes 3 time then it becomes part of the song and no longer a mistake.
Agreed!
I usually scream out "I meant that!" Until it stops repeating and the nurses sedate me. Works every unicorn
Lmao I need to try this!!!
The delay pedal mistake shame is real. When you hit that one sour note and you can swear the pedal is slowly increasing the mix control on its own just so your failures and lack of foresight as a human being may ring in your ears.
Long story short, good feature!
I've been waiting for a delay like this my whole life hahah
The jiji shirt!!! The gate is the reason why this may be the first one of their pedals I’d like to own at some point. The drum section where everything stopped together on time was such a great example and nice execution. Ya delays that keep the wrong notes that play on is something everyone can relate to but in art there are no mistakes only surprise Jazz!! ❤️
I usually end up rapidly cycling my delay switch but that integrated noise gate is an awesome idea with a bunch of potential applications, which you did an awesome job demonstrating here!
Thanks so much! This one was honestly so much fun!
Damn that is brilliant and well implemented
In my mind, the "not hearing your mistakes over and over" is probably the weakest use for the gate feature, since the sudden cut in delay will also be pretty obvious. But being able to cut delay for a drum cut is great, and I could see myself using that feature. Also, the functions of Igor is fabulous, and that alone does kinda make me want this pedal now...
I love how Emily usually talks behind the cam, not looking directly at it. It's likes she's having a conversation with someone else and u just join in
Haha thank you so much!!! I’m usually talking to Russ behind the camera 😂
Hey Emily Hopkins and Russ! Thanks a ton for the surrealistic button pushing and the ethereal knob turning! It made my day better! Ride ride ride!
Hey Eric M!! Thanks for always being so cool in the comments section here!! Ride ride ride!!
the haunting error of making a mistake on delay always makes me think of the Kmac video on it, if only he'd waited for this lil box
Lmao I LOVE that video so so much. I wish I could send him this pedal
Was waiting for someone to bring up kmac... 😂
Song Name
"The haunting error of making a mistake on delay" in C Minor.
Controlling where delay happens @3:50 is sooooo dank.
Thank you!!! It’s honestly so much fun
So much cool functionality with the Igor! Love how flexible this little pedal is.
this pedal offers new ways to perform through & with it. Between the expression control on feedback and the gate, pretty sure this enables some really crazy live stuff. AWESOME!
That's not bad, I usually just roll with those delay mistakes and then it just becomes a free jazz session haha
When I do that, I call it pulling a Nels Cline (even though I'm nowhere as good as he)
What a great pedal, and you did such an excellent job of explaining it - another enjoyable video. Thank you!
Thank you so much Simon!!!
Genius pedal. You find the most amazing effects, and your vids are so fun.
I like how at 4:40 the harp goes "wow!" while talking about the new gate function. Getting some real nice sounds out of that, especially one of those Igor settings! I like the lo-fi burbles you can get
Absolutely love the use of the Igor to make the pedal like a send channel in a box... really cool effect.
I also do love the gate for songs with quick switches, like the drum example. Great review to show how this pedal can be used artistically!
How have we not done this before now?!? This is awesome!!!
I think you do better pedal reviews than anyone. Thank you for breaking it down for us that don't want to get into the science of pedals. Thank you. This looks awesome. Some of my pedals I won simply because of your channel.
This is pretty awesome. Great job David Rainger and team! Amazing demo Emily!
Just seeing this makes me realize how weird it is that nobody’s done this before! Amazing pedal and amazing playing to demonstrate.
This made me smile so much. They’re so cute, giggling together. Also, rad demo with drums guys
THAT SHIRT THOUGH!!!!!!!
ITS MY NEW FAV!
So cool, I never thought about a gate on a delay pedal. You’re a great musician and I love your content. Thank you
Thanks so much, Rocco!!!
That gate feature for delay is just one of those things I absolutely did not think I needed until I saw and heard it in action. EPIC....
'Mistakes echoing out forever' IS badass.
It's also the title of my upcoming autobiography.
When you say "badass" it's like two back-to-back scoops of Lwuoang Island at once. Makes me happy.
Also, that little section with the drummer was COOL and I'm glad you pulled them out of drummer storage for this one. As the kids say, that was slaps. That was very slaps.
Not being that schmuck with the note still repeating during breaks without having to turn my pedal off quick was my first thought when I saw this. Nice sounding delay as well, very simple and to the point.
Awesome demo!! Really dig the portion where the Igor is set to engage the delay to be set to play over.
wow! this pedal is cool! it's in the top 5 favorite pedals i have seen on this channel
Every time I watch your videos, I always find your personality refreshing...
Those drum breaks were clean!
This sounds really useful! Thanks for the review.
Wow, a brilliant yet simple idea. Love it!
The gate is a really clever solution. Pedals are getting wild! Classy shirt btw.
As a drummer, the possibility of using "Igor" with one hand by pressing on it make this one of the most appealing gizmo I've seen. Damn...
I need it lol
I love the custom neon sign you have on the wall! Nothing like making a place your own instead of decorating generically! You rock!
I just love how it literally says "custom neon sign"
@@dl_supertroll right!? That is totally my personality! I love that thing...........got to try and get me one!
That gate is such a cool idea. And I love Emily’s smile.
Cool. Love all your videos
Turns out I love harp and drums together. Who knew. Emily. Somehow. Those breaks gave it a great dynamic too
Very cool pedal. Thanks👍
Your vid titles are undefeated
You have a lot of fun experimenting with all these pedals, and we have fun when you do that, too, but honestly the pedals that sound best are the ones that let the natural beautiful tone of the harp itself shine through, clear and undistorted, but maybe accentuated with delay, reverb, or other time based effects. You start with a beautiful sound. Sometimes it's just RIGHT to let it BE beautiful.
That's a pretty snazzy pedal with an Igor ...
Thanks for the demo!
Good stuff!
I think you can achieve very interesting rhythmic sutff using this gate drifting from busy parts to groovey delay stops. Cool pedal and demo, Emily! But i actually like that worng note echoing forever. It's wabi sabi.
Haha thank you Gustavo!! I’m going to be honest and say that it was tooo hard to find a note that sounded wrong for that passage so I went with that 😂
I really respect the custom “Custom Neon Sign” sign.
Awesome video! Thank you 🙏🏽. This seems like the perfect bass delay. I need to get one!
I love RaingerFX's pedals -- so inventive and unique, and very affordable considering how niche and unusual they are. And the mad genius David Rainger is very cool, even answers emails himself re: questions or issues.
Dang....
That's soo CooL & Tight - a harp & drum kit!!!😅 I recall growing up with "some of those Schmucks, " having "Noize Wars"....lol
.once in a blue moon, there'd be a Happy Mistake Discovery.... but, I digress.. 😮
Very cool demo vid & that 'rhythm blend' with the drummer ....
Well done!!! 😂❤❤🎉
Keep On Rockin' 🎉
...very New & cool uses for pedals...
*Mega Thanks 4 sharing!!😊
Wow I got something like that on a reverse delay plugin, but it's like a smart plugin, so it only does it half the time. Every day this tech gets better and I get happier.
That’s pretty rad 🙌🏼😍
Wow. Impressive. Clever design!
Gate feature is nice, especially when a "do over" is needed!
Other than the pedal reviews, I really enjoy listening to your playing. Any plans on uploading just you playing an original or cover? Especially on the Camas, that harp sounds amazing.
Absolutely epic.
Now THIS is epic
The "Igor" button is a great feature!
The Gate and Igor are cool features, but Emily is the very best feature of all. 😎
Dave rainger is a genius!
not only is this a good idea for mistakes but it is also interesting for those of us who like responsive effects that our pick attack can manipulate.
Thaaaaats cool. I want one for sure👍
I LOVE YOUR SHIRT
THANK YOU
Love this new gate feature, it makes the delay pedal feel more integrated into the playing experience, which I'm always for. Feel like this would be a great pedal for math/metal bands where the drummer will go off in the middle of a section so you could have a nice dreamy wash that just cuts off to make room for the boomy boom boom (I don't know drums). Rainger always gives their effects really interesting tools, and I think everyone's going to find their own way to use them.
Undeniably the best mini pedals ever (besides the Verb Square, but you really need the sauce bag to make it work to it's full potential), purely because of the slight wedge and the top mounted jacks. I'd personally love to see and in-built LFO for more consistent modulation than Igor could provide but with everything else this pedal has, I can't really complain; plus really short repeats for doubling effect is more my "chorus" anyway. Also can we appreciate that even at this size, they have a preamp with an input control and most importantly, an indicator led so your preamp can say hello! or ouch!
Anyway, chalk up another victory for Canadian delay pedals. Canadelays? (and nice Ghibli shirt!)
If you had a MOOD and a Rainger Echo, You could set up so when you stop playing, your mistake disappears and the MOOD immediately starts playing something pleasant to erase all memories of The Bad Note.
I was always told in the music classes I took that you just keep going if you make a mistake. If anybody even notices, just say it was a jazz note.
Agree ! Sneek the note in a few times in the next few lines as a not so subtle reminder that you meant it the first time if there was any question.
I had to teach our band's synth player to keep playing if she misses a note. It's much more obvious when one instrument stops playing than when there's a single wrong more or chord followed by the correct stuff
It's neat. I like it
Emily you are a total delight. Been a lot of fun watching you get more and more goofy 🤪 great channel QUALITY CONTENT
Great idea !
Not sure that was a problem needing a solution, but I really like the drum break application!
Awesome pedal awesome shirt! I love rainger fx stuff! I saw a used (that one that you put liquid in it idk the name) and tho I'll never use it, i appreciate the idea enough to want to own one when i don't have "better" uses for that money :)
The minibar!!! I want one to put sauce in 😂
YES........ brilliant.
That's so kewl.
When people ask me, as a guitarist, what effect pedal should I get first, I always say a delay pedal, because it will throw your mistakes back at you, and it improves your timing.
Learning Every Breath You Take by The Police, and then playing it using a delay pedal like in the original recording does wonders for your playing, as a guitarist it's quite a challenge. Expect sore fingers at first.
That is a feature that makes playing more enjoyable.
I agree!!!
The drummer never listens to anyone else anyway.....
Very cool.
You're awesome 🙌
Kmac needs this.
Kmac is my hero and I will gladly send him mine
gotta love Rainger! I busted out laughing at 'no feet pics'
Whats wrong with feet?
Wow! That actually sounds so cool hearing all the delay just stop like it’s part of the instrument - might steal that concept for mixing by adding a gate at the end of a delay chain and having it listen to the original sound source to decide when to close
Also the mistake repeating instantly reminded me of this:
ua-cam.com/video/sOEs38McXPQ/v-deo.html
It’s so cool!!
That KMAC video is a CLASSIC!!!
Anytime you can make your camera person chuckle, consider that a win!
Also your fashion is sooo cool 😱
this pedal is cool as!
this is an A+++ shirt/cravat combination you are rocking here
This cool: Love the pressure pad, though I won't need the gate, I never make mistakes.
She said badASS and schmuck - I dig this cool chick.
That Igor feature is needed on every delay ever
Excellent shirt again 😻
Haha thank you!!
I love your videos maybe due to the fact that your pedal usage has nothing to do with Guitar/bass so we really learn what the pedal does without bias.
I don't care about the mistakes part, I like the ability to control the effect with my instrument, like how some overdrives pedals change their gain structure when you change how hard you play, or how much you turn your instrument signal up, creating cool additional features for swells.
WOAH! THE IGOR THING IS AMAZING
why does this channel not have 1M subs yet?? I'm writing my congressperson.
The biggest thing that I learned in high school jazz band was that if you play a wrong note, play it again, preferably several times. :-) Then you should probably make it resolve to a chord note. ;-)
So when is that drum break track dropping? That was fire.
Buen pedal....me compro una ya.
Finally fixed after much delay
I see what you did there ... I'm gonna keep an eye on you !
That’s smart pedal.
Right?!
That shirt is pretty rad dude
With the gate the harp joins the ranks of percussive instruments
This is cool. On the other hand you can just as well put any delay pedal in the loop, followed by any noise gate you like, and achieve the same thing, which would be more versatile, although less cost/space effective.
Only high-end rack modules allow you to clear the delay buffer with an external trigger - so it's definitely not something you can replicate with any guitar pedal; but you might be able to program this idea on some effects processors like the Boss GT-1000; which is also quite expensive.
1. play wrong note
2. repeat phrase
3. jazz cigarette
Lmfao pass me that jazz cig ~
What?! I can hardly believe this is the first delay pedal with a gate feature?! 🤯 That is flipping bananas!!! 🍌 And AWESOME!! 🐀
I couldn’t believe it either!!! But it’s TRUE!!! 🐀 🐀
Oh thank goodness! I would have to click on my tuning pedal to cut the signal, mute all my strings, then quickly turn off the tuning pedal to resume playing.
