    So I sit here watching this and I'm crying because my dad died on November 3rd 2023. He was an old school drag racer. He had a 66 442. Was a street racer as well as a quarter mile racer. We are from Whitman M.A. he raced at New England dragway. His name was Richard "Dicky"Coughlin . My dad my best friend. He loved your channel. I introduced him to it like a year before he passed and he loved it! Just wish he was sitting next to me watching this! Thank u for your hard work in making a great channel.

      I can't begin to tell you how sorry I am for your loss. I didn't have any real racers or fast car lovers in my family growing up, so my uncle got me started working on cars, but it was experience that taught me how to work on cars. I taught myself how to build engines, and I built a 4g63t Mitsubishi turbo engine that made 534 whp, and then I even built a Honda 1.8L four cylinder that went on to make 709 wheel horsepower. I have always been about import cars because of Fast and Furious came out when I was 18 and at the time I had a 302W swapped 1994 Eddie Bauer Explorer that I installed an Explorer Express supercharger kit on and it was also jacked up with a Skyjacker 6" lift with 33x12.50 Super Swampers on it (but it was still only 2WD). Right now I have a 2013 BMW 135i as a daily driver, and I have some bolt on mods and a tune, but it's a daily with a warranty, so I can't get too crazy with it. Still, I'd LOVE to build a high horsepower domestic someday before I die.

He was like this guy running the dyno he could figure out what was wrong before anyone else knew what was going on. He was a master mechanic, machinists, welder just amazing. I miss him so much he was my hero. All the young racers loved him he was always ready to help and teach them. They all showed up at his funeral to show their love. Just blew my mind how much the guys all loved him. Good luck with your build on the 55!!!!

    Around '96, I took a bellhousing to a guy in Sun Valley, CA to have some tabs welded to it. It was in a packed, nondescript industrial yard, littered with rusty machine tools. Inside, I found him asleep, tilted back in an office chair at the welding table. Stacked 6" high, all around were cylinder heads, all NASCAR pieces. Turns out he was THE guy to weld up certain passages in order to make them reverse flow. His white beard came down to the edge of his welding helmet, and he said he hadn't trimmed it in over 2 decades. If you weld, you know why. Neat guy, and a fun experience for a car guy like me. Legends are everywhere, and if you stumble around, you'll find them.

Your NASCAR engine small block is amazing- However, I could identify with your excitement- way back in 1970. My car did not have your NASCAR horsepower or modern tech. But- it had tilt - fiberglass front end, 55 hardtop, 4 spd, 4.56 gears, and a sb 350 Camaro engine; after using a Z/28 ‘0ff-Road service cam & springs, 12.5:1 TRW pistons, FI heads, and 780 Holley, balanced with flywheel- Redline was 9300rpm - On the street, There is something unique driving a 55, with instant explosive power in any gear. Man, I got screwed on having a 347 stroker built for me by 2 machine shops.
    The first machine shop that was supposed to do the job. Charge me $7600 to build one and they Screwed it up now at that point I couldn't just throw in the tail. I had all that money already spent on this motor so I had to take it to another shop to have them correct it.
    They charge me 3800. And still something doesn't seem right with the motor. Oh, I almost forgot that's not including $3000 on a forged rotating assembly.
    You can't trust machine shops today. It's a shame. Congratulations, Awesome Motor

    • @Clutch_Kick187
      @Clutch_Kick187 7 місяців тому +1

      Unfortunately your story is very common.. There are lots of guys that build one for themselves, and it works because the parts they bought just to happen to line up tolerance stacking wise.. They don't check clearances that should be checked and verifed, or proper cooling/oiling mods to stock blocks.. Then they think they can do it for others, but the tolerances don't always align and they end up tearing up lots of peoples stuff. I have had a few motors built, and I have always used shops that build motors for circle track/dirt racing. Those engine guys get lots of business, and know how to put an engine together that will sustain high hp, along with high rpm for a long time.. Not these drag builders that try and make a motor last a few seconds at a time, to then claim, "Well thats racing for ya".. I have always trusted circle track builders over drag builders no matter what my goal was..

    8:45 In the mid-80s, I built a 350 4-bolt small block in high school auto shop, with a performance cam and the stock 3 speed that came with my 69 nova and this is exactly how I shifted it.… hard and fast! I regularly revved it to 5k and once to 8K, because I forgot to shift (LOL), but she held strong. Despite its weight, I could easily beat the four-speed Corvettes at the time. I loved that car, I just wish I had the opportunity to put a four-speed and it.

    Many years ago Indy cars started using aluminum block Buick v6 2 valves per cylinder engines running 30 lbs of boost because they were 2 valves per cylinder push rod engines. They produced 900 horsepower. Honda because they were 4 valves per cylinder and dual overhead cams were relegated to 8 lbs of boost. It worked once they figured out the reliability issues and won a number of races for several years.
