Last Ogre battle game I played was March of the Black Queen in like 1997. That game may well have been my most played SNES game which for me says a lot. wish me luck guys I just bought Tactics Ogre tonight!
Awesome viedeo. I remember living in a really crappy hostal back when this game originally came out. And I would play for hours a day in my room, for months until I beat this game. :)

And I really love that you 100% the games you review. It really does make you stand out, and it helps remove a lot out the questions or doubts I have with some other reviewers. There are moments where sometimes someone says "... these things might clear up in the end game" or speak like they have no knowledge on one mechanic or another that seems rather important. It makes me wonder how much they really played and how reliable their take is. To me it doesn't feel like you can properly review a game if you haven't played all of it, aside from maybe some achievements depending on the style. It's like a movie reviewer who only watched 3/4ths of the movie. Your reviews feel complete and fully fleshed out, and it makes my decisions much easier to make based on that. I appreciate your time and effort, and you are doing a very good job bud :)
Surprised by how thorough this review was! Around the combat section I was trying to decide what system I should get it on, steam deck or switch, then the steam deck compatibility section hit! Great stuff!
Awesome review as usual. I found out about your channel recently and you're quickly becoming one of my go to for reviews. In the case of Tactics Ogre Reborn, I had already pre-ordered the game so I watched the review just for fun. 😁
I’m an ogre battle 64 fan and I love this playing it now. The cute little sprites moving around compared against the very dramatic voice work and screams when they get hit or are defeated in battle lol
It's funny, I was replaying Ogre Battle 64 while waiting for this game to come out, and I never noticed all the dialogue when you're near the coast about the "war raging on the Valerian Isles" when I played it as a kid. I really hope we get an Ogre Battle Collection with the other four games like they did when they released the Mana series remasters.
Mort covered in 25 minutes what it would take most reviewers an hour or more. There is no fluff, no product pitches, and no tangents. Thanks for respecting my time.
The 50$ asking price is a whole lot easier to swallow after watching this video. This is the single best video about this game and covers everything I was curious about with this re release. Thanks a billion for making this!!!
I used to play this as a ROM on SNES9X so much. Growing up I was obsessed with tactics games & The original was one of my favorites. I was thinking of snagging this
Thank you for your review. I played this back when the original came out back in 1995. Very good game. Definitely going to pick this up for the switch tomorrow. Thank you for answering a few of my questions I'm your review.
100% !? We finally get someone who can answer the infamous questions regarding the missable Title Orders. Most notably the no incap & no death titles. Are they sill missable? can you obtain them within the same file (or are there any changes to them)? Are they even in Reborn to begin with?
Great detailed review man, Quickly becoming one of my favorite reviewers, Nicely done. I was concerned the chariot card system might make the game a pushover so I am happy that you say its still quite challenging regardless (Yes I could choose not to use it but if its there and I know I can use it then I tend to give in, its a weird thing where I sometimes prefer they just take the choice away then I am forced to ''Git Gud'' lol). Anyway great job!
Yeah there are some games that are made worse because of save-states and rewinds when you play on emulators because it's hard to not use them when you know they're available at anytime.
@@armorvil EXACTLY! I used to struggle on battletoads for so so long on the snes but then eventually myself and my sister beat it on an emulator in coop abusing the hell out of save states and I just felt....scummy. It was a cheat. To this day I still see it as I have never beaten battletoads lol
@@Terron29 They ruined the earlier Fire Emblems for me lol (GBA or Gamecube, mainly). The stats you gain at level up are random, and since you can savestate before leveling up, you can reload and do another sequence of actions so the RNG changes to make you gain different stats. But not only is the whole process very annoying, it's also cheating because your characters will be overpowered very quickly and it will ruin the tactical gameplay if your characters are invincible and one-shot everything. On the other hand, since the games can be very hard, not doing it means being ok with having crappy stat gains if you're unlucky and risking your characters to be one-shot-ted or barely damaging the enemies later on... It's a pure headache I don't have a solution for. You end up being obsessed with having the "right" stats, not too weak and not too strong, which makes the games not fun. The random stat gains at level up is one of the main interest too because it makes every playthrough fresh, but you neither want to get screwed (hence you use savestates - especially since they are games like Tactics Ogre where one wrong move can have catastrophic consequences and you don't want to waste time by restarting a battle from the beginning) nor make the games a cakewalk (so you want to get screwed by the leveling system sometimes but not too much). This turns the games into a "which stats my characters are supposed to have at this time?" game which makes them very unfun. Perfect lose-lose situation that makes those great games almost unplayable for me now.
@@armorvil Can 100 percent relate as I did the VERY same thing. I love fire emblem on gamecube (my favorite with geneology of the holy war second) I would constantly quit out and go back in if I got bad stats. I think it was a bit ridiculous though as sometimes not a single stat would raise if i remember correctly? F that. There should be a bad luck protection like a minimum of 2 stats go up and max of 5 or something lol
I din play the PSP version. The version I play is the first Japanese version on SNES. and I notice that one different is previously you level up individual unit. And now they have change to whole party getting the same EXP at the end of the battle. This is one of a welcome new feature. Can't wait to turn out this game. Currently playing Symphony of War and I'm loving that game alot more than I thought was going to so I'm looking forward to this!
I loved this game when it first came out! Definitely going to get this reboot. Your review just popped up on my feed for this one, keep up the good work!
I'm so hyped for this. The knight if Lodis is one of my favorite games of all time (it fights for #1 with deus ex) so seeing this one has me hyped for a new one and some revisiting the other greats in the franchise
This sounds interesting and while I've never played this game, I did play a lot of final fantasy tactics. I remember the pains from then and your mention of this union level is causing me hesitation. Perhaps, I should just wait for a sale.
Thanks for confirming the game works in the steam deck. Now I feel confortable just preordering the game. I guessed it would work but I have so many JRPGs in my backlog that won't work for some reason or another that I wasn't sure if I could enjoy it again laying in my bed like I did with my psp years ago 🙂
The first ogr battle has to be older than '95... I loved those games! High drama and politicking as a backdrop for fantasy battles. I didn't know the produced more of these, thanks for bringing it to my attention!
@@thelegacyofgaming2928 the first Fire Emblem was 1990 and Shining Force was 1992 so not the first but definitely a formative early entry in the genre.
Thanks for the review. Appreciate your diligence and commitment to reviewing thoroughly and on schedule. Love FFT, liked Triangle Strategy a lot more than you did (ha), this one seems like a definite yes for me.
Great review, Mortym! I am really happy on how this game turned out. This is the finest SRPG every made and it seems this is the definitive version. We'll see if it can top the One Vision mod on the PSP version.
Got into your channel because of Pathfinder and BG3 and I had no idea you were into Tactical RPGs too. There is such a huge overlap between these games and CRPGs and I feel like I'm in the minority for realizing the connection, both TO and FFT are basically homebrew tabletop systems if you think really hard about it, clear inspiration there, but then again ALL of RPGs are rooted in DND one way or the other hehe. Anyways this is a fantastic game, but my preferred version of TO is still One Vision, a huge overhaul mod for the PSP version.
Wow. This seems like an incredibly impressive game, and it also sounds like a job. This is an incredibly well done review of what's seemingly a great game that I have absolutely no intentions of playing
Just subscribed, great review wanted to play in 95, never got around, glad, reminds if ff tactics, great plot, ff tactics had single narrative this one can shift, having lots of fun
Great review! Glad most of the changes seem like positive ones. Removing tedium is always welcome 🙌 What do you think of the achievement list overall? Just glancing through afraid of new content spoilers, PS trophies seem to be entirely story related, which is a bit of a bummer but actually doable. At least it encourages seeing the 3 paths. Saw at least one related to the Palace but it didn't seem to be based on completing it? With you being someone who 100%s everything, I'd love to see a list of games you think are worth 100%ing. I know you do Steam achievements which don't always match up with PS but still. My list is very short and has no RPGs as of yet 😂 REmake2 and REmake3 because they really encourage unique ways of tackling the game as well as ones that are challenging but not absurdly so. Minimal collect-athons.

Can't wait to turn out this game. Currently playing Symphony of War and I'm loving that game alot more than I thought was going to so I'm looking forward to this!
Great review as usual, looks like I’ll be picking this up.
Thank you for this review! I love that most of them are very positive.
Subscribed! Excited for 9pm on PS5
Incredible review! Thank you for giving a niche, but brilliant game some spotlight with some very well articulated thoughts. Loving your channel!
Woo, have been waiting for this one. Thanks for the video 😁. Now just to decide on PC or switch version 🤔
Last time I played this it was on an emulator in another language I had no real idea on what was going on but loved it
Been looking forward to this game and review. Hoping it earned a 10/10.
It was released in the US on the SNES in 1994. I think it was out in Japan in 1992 or 1993.
@@joncarroll2040 Wow, so this truly was the first SRPG entry
@@thelegacyofgaming2928 the first Fire Emblem was 1990 and Shining Force was 1992 so not the first but definitely a formative early entry in the genre.
Thanks for the review. Appreciate your diligence and commitment to reviewing thoroughly and on schedule. Love FFT, liked Triangle Strategy a lot more than you did (ha), this one seems like a definite yes for me.
Hopefully we get FF tactics and Vagrant story soon! Matsuno is easily one of the best developers that came out of squaresoft.
I feel like this game would benefit from difficulty settings. Seems easy to adjust the level cap on them and almost be done at that, as well...
Great review, Mortym!
I am really happy on how this game turned out. This is the finest SRPG every made and it seems this is the definitive version. We'll see if it can top the One Vision mod on the PSP version.
anddd preordered can't wait till after work tomorrow!
Very useful video! Thanks!
Have you not seen the Sunlight in Weeks? My God man, 100% on this game must have been Brutal.
Thanks for covering this game, I was totally unaware of it. It looks fun
Love these type of games. Thanks for the review. Gonna be a buy for me. Great channel!
Ordered the limited edition at Japan and also got a regular copy at state. Thanks.
So excited to play this again. I really hope there's any option to get rid of that godawful anti-aliasing though. I want crisp pixel art, goddamnit.
Another out of the park review. Keep up the good work.
Damn. It isn't out here till tomorrow and you've 100%'d it!!
Appreciate the review Mort!
Thanks for the Reviews i did play the Game on in emulator and i Like it is Same Developer as final Fantasy tactics (i Hope for a remaster next )
Wow. This seems like an incredibly impressive game, and it also sounds like a job. This is an incredibly well done review of what's seemingly a great game that I have absolutely no intentions of playing
Damn good show sir! Love this game and it is a Long one! Great 💯 🥳
This is a game that I missed both times it was previously released. I'm definitely picking it up this time though.
Cheers getting early access by game companies and making 100% reviews. From watching you play Pathfinder to many others continue the great work
Just subscribed, great review wanted to play in 95, never got around, glad, reminds if ff tactics, great plot, ff tactics had single narrative this one can shift, having lots of fun
Great review; sounds like an awesome game.
Played the original, was one of my favorite games. Will be picking this up
So pumped for this!
Great review! Glad most of the changes seem like positive ones. Removing tedium is always welcome 🙌
What do you think of the achievement list overall?
Mostly story stuff and some of the missable side content, also I've made a list video about games I think are worth the 100% before
@@MortismalGaming Awesome, good to know about the missable side content. That's what I like to see from achievements. Thank you!
Apparently I need to start doing some searches on your channel before requesting things 😬 You're always one or more steps ahead.
Remastering Ogre Battle March of the black queen would be my greatest wish
