We listened to this (again) last night, Christmas 2023, about two AM… in the jungle, overlooking the rice paddy, under the coconut trees, on the side of the volcano, in Tetebatu, Lombok… because we had been out looking at the moon - it’s nearly full, probably it will be full tomorrow.
Awesome song! Thanks for posting it. If yall haven't already, everybody should read "Hondo My Father" by his daughter Becky Crouch Patterson. It's a heartwarming biography about the man himself.
During my three years living in Texas, I truly enjoyed each and every, all too infrequent visits to Luckenbach. I marveled at the way old friends spoke of Hondo, and I selfishly regret I never got to meet him.
After reading Becky Crouch's book HONDO My Father I had to youtube him. WHat a great surprise to hear his voice. His er P. Cederstackers writings are like none other. Thanks for posting this.
We'd love to have you! There is something about a Texas moon out in the country, especially at harvest time. You can feel something in the night air that's magical and "other", carrying the scent of burning leaves and bonfires. And the little animals do dance....sometimes us old grandmas do as well, spinning like a ghost in their old white cotton nightgowns and bare feet. The full moon does help us see where the rocks are!
@EmptyHighway1 Stow it Herbert.. Texas born and raised here.. Sounds about as authentic as the "antiques" and "home spun" advice signs at Cracker Barrel.. man-u-factured.
"Hair on Grandma's legs" ??.. huh? They get a writer from the detox ward? "That's the kind of Moon that makes you think you can have a drunkard write about his halucinations and have a quasi folksy annoucer pass it off as home spun wisdom"
long time favorite, been a long time. smiling.
"...just Probly a nothin'" I always thought that was such a great line
I swear, this is one of the best and weirdest things on Facebook. Hondo's language is exceptional!
The album (Vinyl) preceded face book by over 25 years
Facebook: 2004
A Man Must Carry ON Album 1977.

@Closeoutracer Just look at the big ol' moon some night and think of a fine old man looking at it long ago. Is that so hard to do?
Hondo was a revolutionary, he sponsored Lukenbach "Hug-In's". ;)Hondo and Will Rogers had something in common.

A Blue Moon, Websters Dictionary ,means two full moons in one month .Doesn't happen that often ,and it was something to see!
What's the best time of year to visit ?

The first time I heard this, was a version done by Earl Scruggs Revue. Damned if I can remember the name of the album though.
