  • Ever since we got cows out here we've been waiting to get started on rotational grazing. Should have lots of benefits to the health of the soil and make for better grass growth etc. So it's finally time to get our temporary electric fence up and start breaking the field up.

Have you thought of fodder trees ? mulberry willow poplar ? And if you do not have snow and do not go freezing, you can grow elephant grass that grow 2 meter tall but is chopped and used as feed every 15 months.
In Australia they use the plots to grow particular tree species as fodder for beef cattle, and it helped them to take over dry lands into production.

Most of what grows well around here is Bermuda grass, usually the hay growers can get at least 2 if not 3 cuttings of it per year, each cutting 1-2 large round bales per acre. I'll start doing some seeding of some less productive areas in the spring with it.
Thankfully I actually have a good amount of forest within the fenced area so the cows get to clean that out too.

What kind of energizer do you have for the fence?

I'm using the Zareba solar chargers, the 5 mile size for this.

I have setup about 75 acres for grazing right now so breaking that up into sections for this.
