Testing (and Breaking) an Old Plow.
I wanted to try using a plow to break up the ground before I run the tiller through it to hopefully speed things up a little. Apparently I broke more than the ground.

We've been hoping to get electric power out here for a while and it's time to get that started. To do that we first have to clear the area where the new poles will go, which is easier said than done since there's an old fence in the trees. But thankfully there's a way to deal with that!

      There's a return port that goes back to the tank. I hooked the pump to that and used it to suck fuel through the system.

    How many bolts are in those plastic side covers? Can’t seem to get them off! Also would it have helped to fill the fuel filters before installing?

      There's only one hand tight bolt on each one, they slide forward to come out, bolt is toward the front of the cover, back side just has pins that go into the metal mount.

    I think if you turn around the spool so it feeds from the top instead of under you may avoid the snagging problem.

      I tried that at one point but didn't have much luck with it. I did eventually come up with a good way to keep it from binding, tipping it to the side so it doesn't unroll too quickly. Talk about it more here: ua-cam.com/video/zBNumhfqcQk/v-deo.html

      Yeah the manual is a bit lacking, I haven't changed out the oil yet but it claims it takes 80W-90 gear oil. I've run it for probably 20 hours so far and the oil still looks great. I'll probably change it this winter after I get some more running in it.

    Great videos. I’m building the same fence. If you can share a few more specifics I’m curious how far you drove the corner posts in the ground and what length you went with on the cross members. Thanks!

    • @sandboxranch
      @sandboxranch 3 місяці тому

      Hey, it's a great fence system, so much faster than having to weld it all. I tried to keep the cross members about 8ft, in then end I measured between the posts once they were in the ground to be more accurate. The vertical posts are 9.5ft and are 5ft in the ground. It's probably more than necessary but it's easy with the driver.

  • @on4acres
    @on4acres 3 місяці тому

    Thanks for showing this. I’m doing the exact fence as you with the bullet system, using all 2 7/8” stem pipe. How many blades did you use to cut all these pieces?

    • @sandboxranch
      @sandboxranch 3 місяці тому

      I think I went through about 8 blades by the time I was done, I had about 8000ft of fence total. I'm sure a more expensive cold cut saw would have been better but this worked alright and wasn't expensive.

    • @sandboxranch
      @sandboxranch 7 місяців тому

      Thanks! I got rid of the PVC on the bottom, couple reasons, mainly that I wanted something heavier and less likely that they can move it or tip it over, also some concerns about it being able to just be crushed and broken by the cows hooves. Ended up replacing it with some pieces of leftover fence posts. After the changes I made in some other videos it's been holding up well, nothing broken or anything. The cows seem to like it a lot.

    This is great! Thank you for sharing! We would like to offer a little further information about the Miraco Heat tube and a little misconception about it. The tube is intended to keep airspace around the waterline and prevent frost from traveling from the ground over to the waterline. The incoming warmer water will help keep the airspace around the line warmer. Ground heat dissipates as it reaches the ground surface which doesn't supply enough heat to keep the waterer open. The water circulation from use and a good installation such as yours are imperative to keep the waterer open during the winter. Thank you again for sharing! So many people will benefit from it.

    Have you thought of fodder trees ? mulberry willow poplar ? And if you do not have snow and do not go freezing, you can grow elephant grass that grow 2 meter tall but is chopped and used as feed every 15 months. In Australia they use the plots to grow particular tree species as fodder for beef cattle, and it helped them to take over dry lands into production.

    • @sandboxranch
      @sandboxranch Рік тому

      Most of what grows well around here is Bermuda grass, usually the hay growers can get at least 2 if not 3 cuttings of it per year, each cutting 1-2 large round bales per acre. I'll start doing some seeding of some less productive areas in the spring with it. Thankfully I actually have a good amount of forest within the fenced area so the cows get to clean that out too.

Also, you will have to fill it to the top several times since fuel is soaking in and then the filter will be totally saturated when it stops accepting fuel. I have done multiple , as in thousands of full maint. services on New Hollands and many, many other diesels so I can answer any questions you may have on servicing. these machines And, if I can not answer the question, I have a good friend who, let's just say, he is a New Holland "Guru" so I know he can answer the question for you. Hi Alex - I have a 2018 PS 100 with 164 hrs, bought it in Oct with 142h. The broker changed the fuel filters, engine oil & filter and hydraulic filter. Ran great, driller seed for about 15 hours. Once it got cold, 30 degrees, hard starting. Two crank cycles, 1st 8-9 sec, starts on 2nd crank cycle after 4-5 sec. Then I get the “i” at 800 rpm, if I push to 1200, the engine hunts and surges. Then push to 1800 for a few minutes then it’s ok at 1200. My thought is a seal at the spin ons or the glass bowl and maybe the fuel is draining back to the tank. Fuel is Exxon on-road and new. Seems odd the problem didn’t seem to start until it got colder out. With all your experience would appreciate your thoughts.

    • @rockinbbar
      @rockinbbar Рік тому

      Yes, full fuel filters will help before priming. That primer pump is all but useless.... I had a good mechanic at my dealership show me how to get one running after fuel filters were changed. They filled the filters, then tried the primer pump for a long time. No start. The ace mechanic came over and had one guy get in the cab, then he took the air hose and put a nozzle on it, unscrewed the fuel cap, and put a rag over the air nozzle to help seal it a but, then released a bit of air pressure into the tank, and told the guy in the cab to start the tractor. It fired up very soon after. You have to be running the starter and adding that bit of air pressure at the same time for it to work. The less experienced mechanics were just shaking their heads after spending over an hour pushing that pump button as he watched. BTW, glad you have a video on the PS120. I have one, and a matching PS75 as well. Both are great tractors. @@sandboxranch

      That's cool, I may have to try that, do you just run through it with the tiller kind of drawing it toward the areas you want? I was largely thinking of or planting bermuda, I don't think my pasture has a ton of it now.

      @sandboxranch I've done it several ways. If there is some there, you can till the area it's in and a few passes around it in the spring and it should help it spread. Bermuda likes loose soil, as long as it doesn't dry out completely. If there is none you can work the ground up good, buy some sprigs, spread them on the surface, then till them in, and drive something lightweight over them to lightly pack them in or use a roller behind an atv or small tractor. Once you get a good spot established what works well it to run the ripper teeth of a box blade about 2 inches deepwhich pulls up a bunch of roots, then scrape them up and spread them out where you want more and till them in. I'm in central Oklahoma and it grows great here. If doing more than an acre or so just rent a sprigger if there are local ones available.

    Hey Sandbox, next time you replace those fuel filters fill them with diesel first. That little primer pump will help them, but sucks if you start with empty filters! Nice couple of cows. Cute how you name your food and give them treats. :)

      Thanks! Yeah I realized that later about filling them, next time will be much faster. For the cows I know everyone says you shouldn't name them, but I'm confident I'll be fine with it, my wife on the other hand is probably going to have to just be surprised when one is gone.

    Genetically those calves are considered black and will be similar in color to their mothers. Traditional brown braunvieh are born nearly white

      Interesting, as they've gotten older they've actually gotten lighter but will see what they're like when full grown.

      @@sandboxranch thats one of the fun things about braunvieh! They go through a few color shifts as they grow and will change color seasonally as adults too. You can never really predicted the exact color! You can tell if they'll be traditional vs black by the color at birth but they can still be a number of shades in between!

    Should you ever add sheep to your operation, the feeder should have a gap between frame and mat, roughly the size of a lambs neck, or you might find dead lambs someday.
