We recently took a road trip to the New England in the US to visit Niagara Falls, Walden Pond, Baxter State Park, Mt. Katahdin, Mt. Washington, and more.
For the final leg of the trip we headed to Baxter State Park where Mt. Katahdin is located. We first headed to Bangor, Maine to very briefly check out the town and have breakfast at a local coffee shop. Then, it was off to Baxter State Park and we could see Mt. Katahdin in the distance.
When we arrived at Baxter State Park, we headed to Kidney Pond to canoe. Kidney Pond is one of the ponds where you can easily rent canoes to enjoy the lake. After canoeing, we headed to our campground where we had a campfire dinner and did some camp cooking before heading to bed early. The next day we'd be hiking Mt. Katahdin, the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail.
Stay tuned for Part 2 of the road trip where there is much more to come from Mt. Katahdin and Lake Kathdin.

I've long thought that magic you mention when you stop paddling is so different in a canoe than when hiking because you're still moving - body sitting still while the canoe is moving - there's something special about silence while in motion!

I used to go to the University of Maine just north of Bangor up in Orono. Last April i accidentally stumbled into baxter by researching the Maine department of fish and wildlife’s brooke trout stocking report for the current year. After an hour and a half drive I was on the winding baxter state park road, parallel to golden road, when I saw the peak of mount Katahdin in the horizon. I almost crashed my car trying to take a picture. I was taken aback by the raw beauty I was blindly walking into. I’ve since been to baxter dozens of times now as it is my favorite place in the world.
Where you guys ended your hike on the way back on Blueberry Ledges trail I caught my first native brooke trout in the Katahdin Stream right next to the trail. I’m glad you guys were as enthralled as I am by northern marines beauty.

Yetis!😂 I concur with that line of thinking. Once I dragged my brother and his friends on a hike. About 1 AM. It was December 21, and when we got to a departure point on top of a mountain, at 3200 feet, we saw sparkling lights all over the mountain top. Thomas might know it, it is literally called Magic Mountain and is the name sake of the amusement park. Well I could not figure out why there were lights on this brush covered dry mountaintop, and fire seemed out of the question, since I thought there would be a forestry response to that. We went through various scenarios and we thought maybe pagans were having some strange ceremony on the mountaintop and shining lights are flickering lighters… I rode up on my bicycle the next day and discovered that there had indeed been a controlled burn around the radio transmission towers. I had ruled out a very logical idea because I thought it was impossible that they would leave it like that, But indeed they had

"Can't get there from heeya"... LOL Actually I could, but haven't & have lived in ME all my life (no excuses, right ; )
The White Mts. of NH are closer to me (southern Maine), so I tend to take the trip that will get me to AWESOME the quickest (an hours drive). If you haven't done the Kanc, you're missing out (cheap thrill - tank of gas). The Rock Pile (Mt. Washington) is awesome too; however, viewing from a dash cam was enough for me! I did climb five miles up from the Cog Railway side; that was high enough for me, didn't want to become a statistic. Thanks guys for saving me the trip north to Baxter. I'll be enjoying the next video too. If you haven't been to the White Mountain National Park in NH, plan on it (just sayin').

Not only is it now surrounded by some of the most forestry disc golf courses, cider houses, farm fresh iron fish distillery, breweries, and loads of farmers markets and farms that sell fresh produce and meat, and lastly the new green mile. Next time you guys head this way I'll grab some mushroom pals and show you a good time. And if ever up here in August, there's hoxyville ( biggest blues/bluegrass festival east of missippi) right up m55, and forest trail music fest at the end of August right in freesoil, ( a collaboration of many Michigan bands playing in the woods for three days)
