    Hm, don't know why UA-cam shows your video, but Lan, you are such a beautiful, charming lady. Good luck with your business of teaching Vietnamese. BTW, there is a word in English "unrequited love", but it means "yeu don phuong" rather than "that tinh". Heartbroken is not the same as "that tinh," but is simply an emotional state associated with the status of "that tinh". So, the closest English translation (but not completely equivalent) is "a love lost". Remember this: "'tis better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all" - Alfred Lord Tennyson. My translation: Tha duoc mot lan yeu va danh mat, Hon chua tung biet duoc TY".

    wow! me as a cantonese speaker find it wonderful of how Vietnamese originates from cantonese!! they pronounce more like Cantonese (spoken in Hong Kong and Guangdong province) than Mandarin

    • @kits8840
      @kits8840 3 роки тому

      Cantonese preserved many ways how ancient Chinese was pronounced. Vietnamese imported many Chinese loanwords during ancient times and their pronunciation didn't change as much. Even though Vietnamese can sound very similar to Cantonese, Vietnamese did not originate from Cantonese but they shared a common ancestor.

    I have learned so much from TVO and I'm very grateful for it. I'm a little confused about the usefulness of "that[/] and other words derived from the Chinese. If we do not use them in conversation, what is the value of learning them, or are there some exceptions? I make this criticism with reservations, for I know that all knowledge of the Vietnamese language is valuable, but if the goal is to become conversant, is time spent learning formal language time well spent? It was good to be told that we should use "mat[/]" instead of "that[/]" when we lose something, as it would be more natural. Pointing out the common way of speaking in parallel with the formal phrases makes the lesson much more useful. Thank you, Lan, for your high quality lessons and generous responses, as you have responded personally to one of my queries in the past. I like the magic word series, and I'm a completist - I want to learn all I can about Vietnamese - so my recommendation, for what it's worth, is to point out common phrases alongside the formal language.

    Nghĩa khác "Thất" is seven: Thất tiên nữ (bảy cô tiên).
    Và "Gia thất" is family

    This is the 😢 video Tieng Viet Oi has offered so far, such sad words.
    The last word I would say the closest equivalent is "stunned" in English.
    "that tinh", or wildly unpredictable personality, frequently is described as "moody", or, if a particular diagnosis applies to mood swings, bipolar.

  • @nguyenkimngan9220
    @nguyenkimngan9220 Рік тому

    that tinh can mean lose hope to get someone love.

  • @nguyenhuytuquan
    @nguyenhuytuquan 3 роки тому

    In my opinion, "thần" in "thất thần" means spirit, soul or the liveliness of a person mainly showed in their facial expression or body gestures. You can find this meaning in "tinh thần" (spirit) or "thần thái" (the way someone's spirit appears, behaves in front of the eyes of others).
    So "thất thần" means "to lose your spirit, to have no liveliness at all". That's probably what we all do when we lost passports :)))

      đúng là gượng ép thật, mặc dù suy ra vẫn đúng nghĩa nhưng giữa từ Bất Hiếu với Thất Hiếu khi dùng thì Bất Hiếu là lựa chọn hàng đầu chứ chả ai dùng thất hiếu cả!
      Mà từ Bất nếu như nội dung trong video thì nó cũng là 1 "Magic Word" với nghĩa là phủ định từ theo sau nó.

      Vietnam had "nom", a system of writing based on Han characters, but is entirely for Vietnamese language. The system is so complex that only the most literate, well educated could read and write . Phonetic romanization help the mass to be literate with minimum schooling.
