What a couple of Debbie Downers. Y’all should be encouraging the electric scene so that when the tech matures in ten to thirty years, your kids can benefit from some game changing tech that includes infrastructure, tech advances and thriving secondhand markets. Or maybe we should go back to horses... Environmentally friendly, cheap to refuel, and they make new models of themselves all on their own!

I agree with Tommy, "Scout should have launched with a Gas engine." We're not ready for all electric yet. It goes back to the days when six and four cylinder engines came out, and the backlash those got. And now they are everywhere and kicking ass. How are electric or hybrid sales, actually... In off roaders? That said, the Scout (concepts) looks pretty cool and it will get alot of "it looks like a Bronco!" They did back then to. ... Everything is a "Jeep Killer", the Bronco was to when it started coming out... Once that statement is made, it won't be a Jeep Killer. And all that is said about Jeep(s), this statement, used so often still, goes to show that Jeep is still on top and still the benchmark. Even for the G Wagon that you guys ALWAYS seem to mention in this segment .... That shouldn't ever be. G Wagons sit outside fancy restaurants with 24" wheels and the average person wouldn't buy one. They are just a status symbol. And! I could buy a couple Jeeps or Broncos for the price of a G Wagon.

I have five electric vehicle owners in my family, and the statement of lower maintenance cost way not accurate, every time a Tesla mechanic has to be called out, for what should be minor repairs or service in a gas vehicle, my family members have been charged over $4,000 a pop, the constant charging issues leading to bricking, stranded on the side of the road, the outlandish cost to upgrade their homes electric amperage, and in two cases the entire subdivision was substandard to support EV charging, over a dozen public charging stations we've looked at had diesel generators for the chargers, to my Nephew being charged $25 and hour to charge his S at a Tennessee station for two hours, the cars still have to be serviced and there is still oil, coolant, etc. that has to be done, and finally the battery doesn't last as expected in the extreme climates and two of my family members have already faced the $8,000 and $14,000 battery swaps for their respected vehicles, All of them have had to keep gas vehicles for reliability, two of them can't charge them in the below zero winters of their northern states, two of the others can't get half of the battery life here in the desert at 100 + degrees, and one of them has constant salt air damage to the electrical connections in Florida, My son works at the Largest vehicle parts distributor for the southwestern region and is seeing replacement batteries Quadruple due to early failure rates. So, your son is correct that gas and hybrids are the better option and is actually what people want. Every single one of my family members who own electric vehicles are getting rid of them as soon as they can, with only one planning to return to even hybrid, I work for a parts distributor, I am personally seeing customers come in hoping we can help them source batteries, (we can't) because of the waiting list and the cost.

For the majority of drivers EV’s are more than enough, all these extreme ICE use cases will be addressed by EV tech in the coming years with battery density, solar charging, power storage, charging speed and chemistry always rapidly improving.
And to those who say EV’s pollute as much as ICE let’s sit in a garage in our respective cars with the powertrains running overnight and see who makes it out.
People get too comfortable because your exhaust is behind you so out of sight out of mind. Put it upfront and see how long you’d drive ICE.

Way too many issues with the electronics when installing lifts trimming the wheel wells to fit larger tires. Give the consumer a basic EV with the ability to highly mod the suspension then I think in my opinion it would have a better chance. I would love an R1T with 74weld portals, 37" tires and 600mi of range.

Suspension lift kits are available for the Tesla Model Y. They'll be available for the CyberTruck soon enough.

I just drove my Tesla from UT to MI and it was much better driving that distance than the same trip just two years ago. If all stops had been 250s, none of the charging stops would have seemed longer than needed for bathroom and snack breaks. That’s not even the state of the art for charging. I actually think we’re getting pretty close to (expensive) EVs being capable of road trips without much sacrifice and some benefits. We’ll see when we get to off-roading, but road-tripping has gotten much, much better, at least in a Tesla.

@@nativeson608 - I have a Tesla Model S LR. I would say that a realistic range on a road trip might be as long as 300 miles between stops, but there are clearly a lot of variables and most legs were closer to 250 miles. The availability of chargers, particularly in areas where chargers are few and far between, often impacted the stops as much as the car’s ability to go a particular distance. Using 250 chargers, I don’t think we stopped longer than 15min before we had enough range to continue. There were times when chargers were throttled (not the 250s, but sometimes it happened at 150s) and charging times increased substantially. I probably sat at the chargers in Rapid City, SD for 45min when we arrived there and still didn’t get a full charge. On the other hand, when my wife stopped at the same chargers on the return trip, she was able to spend less than 20min and got to 87%. We don’t keep accurate measure of times or efficiency on legs, so this info is just anecdotal. My point was more that the last time we drove our earlier Tesla (Model Y P) on the same roads, the range was clearly much less - an issue in WY when the wind was up) and charging times were longer - often more like my experience in Rapid City than what our typical experience was on this year’s trip. To be clear, I think the improved experience had to do with both the better car and the better chargers. If all stops were 250s - not even the current state of the art - I don’t think the stops would have been an issue at all. Made my optimistic for the future of BEVs.
