- No 5820 or Big Jim as it is affectionately known by the volunteers at the K&WVR was one of a batch of US Locos sent to Europe in 1945 to help with the post-war recovery.
It spent it's working life in Poland until it was eventually put aside for preservation.
In 1977 it was purchased by the K&WVR for restoration and after a couple of years it was ready to start work on the line.
Big Jim is now a much love addition to the fleet and stalwart member of the Motive Power Depot.
Oddly, these engines weren't built to last forever, but to fill a gap. Yet, here it is. The K & WVRWY has done a wonderful job.
Thanks, yes a unique Loco which is still working well and seems very popular with visitors with all the different sounds it makes.
What a loco. And it's LOUD AS HELL, Still awesome though.
Thanks, yes even when it's standing it's noisy I think it has some sort of valve or compressor on the front that UK Locos don.t have. Richard
Not just that, the whistle aswell.
And also the valve on the front is an so brake pump
Air brake pump
What a great video and a lovely loco. The American loco has a different sound to our British ones.
Thanks a lot, glad you enjoyed it, it was a lovely day out on the line for me as well. Richard
American 8F?
I think so, I don't know much about American Locos but this one is very popular with visitors and a big attraction on the Railway. Richard
