  • In this video i have a look at a 2003 Chevrolet 1500 that has a P0446 Canister Vent Valve Performance code stored in it. Before you load the parts cannon have a look at the system and see if the vent valve is really the issue. -Enjoy!

Huffing them gas fumes made you forget to put the plug connector back on ..... why do they always put the charcoal canister at the same level as the gas tank so it gets gas in it ??? Why isn't it laid flat against the body HIGHER then the gas tank ??? So it doesn't get any liquid gas in it ???? Its purpose is just fumes so why not higher than the tank ????? Also, why not make it out of clear plastic instead of black plastic - with clear, you can see inside and check if it is caked or wet with gas, deteriorated, or in good condition ???? Just asking - inquiring minds want to know !!!!!!! Can't believe you let that nasty black gas run down your arm and ONTO your sleeve !!!!!! If Mrs. O. saw that, you would be hand washing your clothes in a bucket outside, not in her clean washing machine with her white blouses !!!!!!! Good exploratory diagnoses !!!!

This week we had a caddy in for a lean condition. I was scrolling through the data on the scanner and found that the mass air flow was only registering 3 grams per second. I distinctly remember in one of your videos that GMs.should be closer to 5.5. my coworker said it was fine. It bugged me. Sure enough, I looked it up in Mitchell and found that it should be 4-8 at idle. Tried cleaning it, the money light came back on,. co-worker was giggling. I checked the data again and still couldn't get but low 3's out of the mass air. Changed it, and like magic, the airflow grams went up, fuel trims corrected themselves and once drive cycle completed, I inspected it and shipped it. Thanks for the videos. I grew up spinning wrenches. After 11 years in the military, and 12 years in a mill, I got back into it and am constantly trying to educate myself. Thanks for your very informative videos. You help tremendously by not showing just the answer, but the diagnostic road to get there

I have a '99 Silverado, and did the mass airflow, took it out for a quick rip and it was still runnin shitty. Money light wasnt on, but with OBD data the sensor was reporting exactly 3 (iirc) g/s, regardless if im sittin there or full send. Really threw me for a loop. So, I take it all apart, pull the airflow sensor out, clean it, have a goodly gander at it, put it all back together and walk away...and then realize for the second time, now, I've forgotten to plug the damn thing in

Several double blind studies conducted between 2009-2016 indicate that plugging in diagnostic equipment, as well as properly connecting leads to power sources dramatically increased the chances of successful diagnosis as well as function of diagnostic equipment. A few fringe studies involving divination and psychic events produced results that require further investigation, but as of this time, ASE standards continue to mandate connectivity.

We have these issues on CRVs when customers try to squeeze more fuel into their tank after the pump clicks off, the fuel gets in and eats the sponge filter that keeps the charcoal in and little tiny bits of charcoal get sucked into the purge and blocks it open. We have to replace the canister, the purge valve and blow out the line in-between. Hope it was worth it to hit 50$ exactly on the pump!

I think it is awesome that you do not mind diagnosing the problem and letting the customer fix it themselves. I've seen shops act like you are taking food off their children's plate when you decide you want to do your own work.
There have been times when I was too poor to pay attention. Not having a car to get to work would make things worse. Without a lot of diagnostic tools or the ability to fund a parts cannon, sometimes having a shop get you in the right direction was neccesarily the difference between paying rent and an endless cycle of cash advances and a hole that is very hard to stop digging.

Very important not to allow too much vacuum into the tank. I replaced a rusted out tank in a 1993 Chevy 6.5 Diesel, along with the fuel cap. I drove about 350 miles and stopped to refuel. When I tried to remove the cap (which is supposed to vent under vacuum), I ended up having to pry it off. The brand new tank that used to hold 32 gallons now only hold about 20.

Could it be the missing O² sensors?..I also live in NY but I am way up north on Canadian Border and St. Lawrence River...😂🥶 this is my first year as a solo DIY mechanic..as my Dad was who taught me everything but sadly I lost him in June/2022 to a motorcycle accident😔 so any help or advice would be greatly appreciated 😎

I have a P0455. I’ve replaced gas cap, purge valve, then Evap canister and vent valve. Evap canister was full of gas. (Also still getting code after clearing) Question could the canister being full of gas have been caused my topping off? Or is it def a problem with my fuel pump? AND, should I have blown out the lines after replacing canister/valve? Could gas be/have been in the lines? Without doing a smoke test, only other thing I can guess is fuel pressure sensor. If I’m dropping the tank, I’m replacing all of it. Still running orig. 2005 Tahoe 270k miles. She’s a Beast!

It’s too bad I can’t post post a photo you get a laugh out of what I had to do

U just told me why my eval system is showing off. I experimented rebuilding my fuel pump and n doing so has me here learning EVAP systems. Had I just installed a new fuel pump instead then I wouldn't be here. So can u explain when I give it gas meaning pressing the gas pedal it cuts off and hard to start. Zero fuel or air coming out of the valve mounted on the fuel rail. Will all these problems go away with a new fuel pump? Which fuel pump should I buy? 2009 Tahoe XFE and VIN# 1GNEC23359R242089. 5.3 engine. Is the 8th digit the best way to get the correct fuel pump? Should I buy new fuel pump or pick and pull?

I been watching dozens of videos on this monstrosity on my truck. First thing I wanted to do was completely edit it. Run the tank vent hose that went to the canister directly to the tube on the other side of the valve to the filler with a ball check valve, to allow the tank to vac and it purge while filling. Then seen the circuit has to read resistance of some sort, so thought a resistor would simulate that. That would kinda work on that problem.. Then my next plan of attack was route the engine vac to the tank on the other hose..
Well that seems stupid now that I've seen you test it and realized that would collapse my freakn fuel tank! And I didn't know you could flip all that on and off to test the system which would not be good if I let someone diddle with my computer. Not 100% on the functionality of this system, but Im fairly certain GM thought of smart guys like me on every move.
So now my next plan is to empty the charcoal and put a drain valve on the bottom of the canister. 😅

If Trump is calling you, tell him to voice support for the HK protestors. Tell him not to just stop at Tariffs against China, but to take them to the cleaners in every area that he can. The Chinese govt killed my wife's grandfather because he refused to join the Communist party. My wife and her sister hate the Communist party and they escaped China 20 + years ago. They cant understand why Democrats support Communism. My wife loves Trump but she wants him to voice support for the protesters.
