This is a good starter kit if you ask me. Dirt cheap, so if you break something (like I did) no great loss. In a way it truly is the GM - the mass produced Gundam knock off.
I’m actually quite happy with the HGUC RGM-79 GM and it simplicity because it was always meant to essentially be a simplified version of the RX-78 series Gundam.
I would probably consider getting this, as it's often easy to find very cheap, but I can't quite get over the diaper. VERY glad they more or less retconned that with all of the other GMs
They also retconned that with both the MGs. The 1.0 only gives you a GM II-like skirt whereas the 2.0 gives you the option between the GM II-like skirt and the diaper(albeit in 2 pieces instead of just 1 solid slab)
@@kakarot197 oh hey i know this is old as hell by now but uhh !! this kit has a feature where theres a little grey part inside the torso with a bit of detailing ? its totally unseen in this review, bc theres a feature u missed ! if u pull up the torso on the peg, it adds a side to side tilt/ crunch, and , something youll appreciate, lets you flip the skirt up all the way for much better front leg articulation !! :]
You can make the handle useable with a hobby knife or a pin vise. Just cut a teeny hole in the peg and a regular blade will fit in easy. Also, the shield mount in the arm is extremely useful for kitbashing. You can mount the old 1/144 Gouf Flight Type's 3 barreled machinegun on them.
I do have to agree with you in that the beam spraygun is underrated. It looks quite nice and I am a little surprised we didn't see it as a side-arm much, though I guess in the canon, it was too expensive to really use for that purpose much. a shame, really, as it is quite nifty and I like the idea of a beam pistol and that while it lacks the punch of the rifle at long range, its higher firing rate makes it formidable closer up.
I do wonder how expensive it would be to produce it as a side-arm for all of them. Especially the GM Kai seems to be made with the idea of using the Beam Spray Gun as a sidearm, with both holes in the sideskirts serving as hardpoints. And one hell of a sidearm it is, even goes through the armour of a Dom with ease :3
Totally, and has a better firing rate than the Gundam's beam rifle did, and hopefully better ammo capacity. that said, I am sure they could have figured out a way to make it cheaper, but pistols in general just aren't seen a ton in gundam, sadly. The Rick Dias being a notable exception.
Arrowdodger I hope you were only talking about UC, cause otherwise you forgot 1 important machine, famous for it's pistols :3 As for UC, all I can think of other than the Rick Dias is the Methuss, that 1 custom Jegan and the Victory Gundam/Gun-Ez(the pistol pops out of the beam rifle). That's about your lot unfortunately =/ We could really use a few more, which is why I love the K9 =P
***** I meant UC, yeah, otherwise, 00 has some, Build Fighters included many with pistols and/or knives, Strike Noir has pistols, and more I am sure. Which one is the famous one you had in mind?
I bought this as my first gunpla to try out and I learned so much of how to use my tools (Nippers exacto knife and files) and not to use sharpies as panel lining. I love GM's but now I upped my gunpla tools and learned so it's a good build for first timers but for what is out there now. no. Like you said it's cheap Amazon had it for like 6-8 USD when I bought it my tools are more expensive then the kit lol. love the videos keep it up bro!
I kind of wish this kit had a trigger finger hand for the left hand...the beam saber would be another nice upgrade for it. I've built two of the basic version of this kit, the second with more work done to it than the first (And works well with the bazooka from the EG RX-78-2 FWS). I also have one of the version that comes in the Gundam Base GM/GM II/GM III trio kit that has slightly different colors. Currently contemplating a couple more along with the Project V conversion kits for it... A key thing that's a more simple upgrade is to either cut a bit of a foil sticker to fit behind the faceplate or chrome the back of the faceplate before putting it in.
Hey kakarot! Just recently bought a HGUC Gm (Haven't got it yet) But how do you extend the joint for the neck/head? To make it look down and up better Thanks ^^
I'm glad they kept this kit very basic and cheap because then you can buy multiples and use a battalion of them for a re-enactment diorama of a big battle. It's also a good practice bed for seam line removal for beginners and also battle damage effects for more advanced modelers. The worse the kit is, the less you mind destroying them!
It's dirt cheap as far as kit goes and it's so retro and simple that of course it is. Hell, go practice painting on it with markers or whatever, consider it expendable.
+ZaKu_2Chill zaku2 It's probably this kit? www.dalong.net/review/hg/hsp7/hsp7_i.htm You get 2 HGUC GMs and a Launch with that set. There's also a review of the set on dalong, with I can't link directly to it: www.dalong.net/review/hg.htm (third row of the limited edition section all the way at the bottom)
Yours was minty green but I just bought one and it’s almost blue, like a shade off from GM sniper2 blue. Is this a common thing with the gms? I feel like it may have been age that distorted the color since it was a kit from 2001, really debating on painting it.. anyone else run into this issue?
with toothpicks (especially ones not molded in the hand) you could just take a spare beamsaber, cut off the molded in beam, and either drill a hole in it or glue a spare beam on.
One of the easiest hgs to start alongside guncannon and guntank. Minimal stickers, not many small parts, quick build. Gundams can have small parts easy to lose, break, cut usually v fins and need care
Its seen in the episode where Char attacks Jaburo. It's the one Char guts with his claw. If you search youtube for the offical gundam.info's profile of the original RGM-79 you can also see it.
Episode 28(English)/29(Japanese) "Tragedy in Jaburo" around 19:07. He's even holding it with both hands and firing it, right before he gets gutted. The moment the screen changes to char punching a hole in him, he's holding the beam spray gun again. Due to the recent retcons, you could even assume that the beam spray gun was the animation error lol
Raffaele Passarelli Char's Zaku is HGUC, but the Zaku on the right is an HG: www.hlj.com/product/BAN61217/Gun ua-cam.com/video/RTKxJBv28Po/v-deo.html Less articulation, but much more detailed.
GM III is the best one out there. Bulky equipment, MK-II backpack and a great look overall. GM Custom, Quel , K9 and Cardigan(Crap load of equipment, good gimmick. also, has the parts to make a yellow HGUC powered gm.) are great options
I hate the look of the RX-78-2 Gundam; Mauro's in the 1979 first series and the one this is based on; and I pretty much dislike all E.F. Gundams as they tend to look like overly bright, cheap plastic Asian sci-fi toy robots; kinda like most Transformers do also. I am a huge fan of the Zeon Zaku's as they look so WH40K (they even have a similar helmet and faceplate to an Astartes Mk 6 Corvus pattern 'beaky' power armour suit). This RGM-79 GM with its all-in motorbike helmet/ Halo MasterChef/Spartan helmet like; type of head with its mono visor and the stripped down 2 colour scheme. I find as pure awesome and the only E.F. Mobile Suit I like; probably again as it looks so WH40k or what a real-world 18 meters tall, biped humanoid form walking tank combat mech may look like (another reason I like the Zakus' is as they have that same real-world sci-fi military vibe also)
This is a good starter kit if you ask me. Dirt cheap, so if you break something (like I did) no great loss. In a way it truly is the GM - the mass produced Gundam knock off.

Yea, still waiting for that...and a revive Guntank. Everyone always says get the build fighters GM instead but its not the same at all.
Yeah, always felt this design needed more love
As long as they keep milking unicorn trash no chance.
Well technically the GM/GM could work
Our cries for a revive of this kit are still left unanswered

DoubleSuperWoodman Whats the measurement on the hole for the beam sabers? Gotta have me good gms yar
+drako1251 I don't remember the exact size but I used the smallest bit I had and enlarged the hole with my knife.

perfect for modding. imagine the possibilities, paint and overall modifications
