I had the pleasure of watching a very interesting video which highlighted your efforts on getting and maintaining the world record. From there I watched your world record video and for over an hour I had jaw dropping and “are you kidding me?” moments. Now I get to watch you watch a run with jaw dropping and “are you kidding me?” moments. I love this game. It has a special place in my heart from my childhood. I battled this game as a kid. I played it fast just for fun. For the rush. Thank you for doing this.
47:10 I don't know how to actually push the limo there myself but from watching a few people do it, you want to get the middle lined up with the left part of that dark bit like that, so I think that's right
Got recomennded this randomly, i have never seen a H&R speedrun, and haven't played this game in over 13 years, WTF is going ON?? and most of this is normal? runs must look crazy, granted, this is perfect execution, but still
Dont apologize for pointing out the differences or optimizations! Thats the whole reason im watching you react to it haha, cause you have the knowledge the comment on that
Something that I don't think was mentioned in the video: on consoles, cars seem to have more weight and inertia. One of the results of this is that they hit *a lot* harder, which is why strats in the video like curator, armored truck, duff truck, and lvl 6 Skinner are able to be done the way that they are. My guess is that the low FPS plays a part in this. Because it takes longer for your car to respond to controller inputs, it carries it's inertia in a specific direction for longer. If you're able to time it right and get the right angle, you can send another car flying across the screen *and* do a lot more damage. The trade off is that cars handle terribly on console because of the low FPS, so I'm sure runs are far less forgiving and have a higher rate of restarts. I have the PS2 version of this, which I believe is the worst, and the difficulty comes from how hard it is to drive even in a straight line.
I don’t know about that, however FPS is very well known to increase damage specifically. Duff truck hits were normal, curator is actually harder on 60, that took me almost an hour of tries from hospital. Now you mentioned armoured truck, the way that works is something about that wall allows armoured truck to slightly clip in, doing extreme damage. Skinner would’ve been a one hit regardless as hitting a corner like that at full speed will damage extreme amounts
Yeah low FPS has a noticeable effect on destruction missions, it's one of the very few time-saves that runners on 60fps or below get. However you said the cars handle like shit on low FPS I think it's the very opposite, cars handle in a much more stable manner on low fps, that's why it's generally reccomended for new runners to start on 60. However on higher FPS you can start to get larger boosts when you go over bumps in the ground or have your tires lift off the ground so many top level runners move to high FPS for those boosts and a few end-game strats to save time, while sacrificing some physics stability and cutscene skip viability that is afforded to runners on lower FPS This TAS was done on a GameCube emulator so the game is running 60fps, I imagine a TAS on PC with higher FPS could be faster but there's no tools for it TASing this game on PC yet
On a more serious note here: Liquid has to be nit-picky of everything for a TAS speedrun. Otherwise there cant be a theoretical perfect run being made in a TAS in the first place. Many TASers are knowledgable about the game, but very rarely to the same point Top-Level runners are and need the scrutiny annd constructive criticism of the Human runners to optimize even further. Human Top-Level runners know basically everything about their game, even stuff thats deemed impossible, unfeasable or otherwise not worth to do in any given speedrun category *as a Human.* TAS-Runners can safely ignore that as they are able to do every input frame-perfect and do inputs which would be physically impossible to do irl (best example here Super Mario Bros where the NES, the controller and the player cant do some inputs the TAS can do as its physically impossible) The whole dynamic between TAS-Runners and Human Runners is: Desire for TAS exists -- TAS runner creates first runs off of publicly available knowledge (many times, doesnt have to be) -- TAS gets scrutinized by Human Runners -- TAS runner rework the entire thing -- Repeat TAS-Runners spend also a shitton of time into the Speedrun, have their own leaderboards and are dependable on the Human Runners...However, many times through a TAS many more glitches, bugs and shortcuts/Timesaves are usually discovered as TAS-Runners know the game better, but on a different level and in a way compared to Human Runners. TAS are cool to watch, because they are almost always bonkers, many times funny and for Human Runners important pieces of knowledge. *However they will never be able to replace actual Human Runners.*
That doesn’t really apply here, I am a top real time speedrunner, however I’m new to the community so a lot of his nitpicks were helpful because they were discussions had in a time where I wasn’t a runner. This is my first TAS ever so a lot of that extra knowledge doesn’t really apply to me, this TAS was mostly my RTA knowledge, a playlist of Strats, slowdown, savestates and a shit ton of trying over and over and hoping it worked
Btw liquid GCN runs at 60fps not 30, it actually runs at the highest fps of the console versions of SHAR. IIRC Xbox is 30fps, PS2 is 25fps. So given this wiggum house clip should be theoretically possible for PC players on 60fps as well. I'd image it's inconsistent the higher the FPS goes though, similar to bridge clip That said, this run would definitely be faster than WR by a minute or 2 if console could use ESS, main menu warp, and had no emulator lag
Emulator should always have the same number of CPU cycles available to the game each frame, consistent disc access speed, easy access to savestates, etc. A PC TAS may be possible but the tools are limited.
I accidentally pulled off the Armoured Truck strat when I didn't knew what I was doing I wanted to push it against a wall so it could get stuck, my fps went to like 10-15 while it was taking damage (I was playing on the Xbox at the time)
I love this TAS compared to so many other games! It seems like every other TAS has some arbitrary bullcrap like theres a speed wiggle or jumping sideways goes faster. Runs are no fun if the TAS is hopping and wiggling backwards for an hour straight lol.
@@neonicplays What version of Dolphin did you make this TAS on? From my experience, 5.0 Stable runs the smoothest of all versions - at the cost of making desyncs and incorrect emulation a lot more common for many games. Some of the builds from 2021 also had issues with the emulator lagging constantly as well.
I just randomly looked up speedruns for this game and found you I’m American and saw you’re video of people getting offended for politics and melee being overrated 😂 this game is my childhood man
Hey everyone, make sure you go to neonics channel and like the TAS over there :) It’s in the description. Push it higher into the algorithm
The fact that you rewinded the video at the dumbest possible times to explain stupid things no one cares about is maddening
And if you look at 1:41:05, you can see how beautifully he explains this rare moment to the viewers! 😊
I resented clicking this because of the thumbnail but you immediately solved that problem but no spoiler for everyone else
I couldn't help but chuckle at LiquidWIFI's stunned silence during the Duff Truck Mission on Level 6. 😁
9:17 Having the Playstation 2 version, I can relate to that glitch completely...
I wouldn't feel bad for pointing out all the micro optimisations. They're super interesting and you can't really get that info anywhere else handily!

the PS2 version runs at somewhere between 30 to 25 fps
the GameCube and Xbox versions run at 60 FPS unless it is PAL, then it runs at 50 FPS.
