I think Jackpot actually is a great combination. As much as storing Fortune would suck, if you tapped it *while* burning gold, you'd be much more likely to get a useful alternate version of yourself. It would almost like being a Forger--except you wouldn't have to do all of the scholarship or even know what alternate versions of yourself you might want in the future. You just tap Fortune to guarantee that you get the one you need. I imagine that you wouldn't need that much Fortune to influence your gold shadow, which could minimize how much you actually need to store. Granted, there's a lot we don't know about gold shadows, but I think we can pretty confidently predict that a gold shadow + a little bit of luck would be very likely to be useful. I don't think it's enough to call it Busted, but it probably is at least A, if not S.
This is my thought too. Brandon has said that every magic system has the capability to end up with similar abilities. I think gold is the Scadrial equivalent of forging, and we'll see it be used more in later cosmere stories when we learn more about the underlying workings of it. It follows the same basic principles as forging but has slightly different details of use. I wonder if there will be a way to use gold on objects that gets discovered.
For a dueler (duelist?) you could burn Bendalloy and store strength at the same time. Yeah, you’d be bored in a bubble, but you are technically spending less time to store strength, so you can fill those ironminds faster than other feruchemists. Plus if you were ballsy and hand a bunch of bendalloy, you could store a LOT of strength in the middle of combat. Fun Combo :)
I apologize if somebody already commented this, but you do NOT need duralumin to identify specific emotions and emotional Allomancer is influencing when burning bronze. Marsh says he can do that, but Vin is not skilled enough to identify specific emotions without duralumin, and that's why she needs it
I think that when a twinborn is storing feruchemical nicrosil it also stores the allomantic power, in the zinc example maybe when the twinborn taps the metalmind he can riot emotions more powerfully, the same way mistborns made using lerasium beads are more powerful than the mistborns of the final empire.
Duelist should be S or Busted on the fact that you can store it midfight alone. Additionally, whenever you isolate someone in a Bendalloy bubble, you're not going to have to worry about the other guy being stronger than you. Slick should be higher, too. Imagine a world where you could smooth over every instance of bad luck you've ever had?
I think for storing fortune, you just constantly store at say 99% of normal fortune, then tap way more for the short period of time when you need it. Storing it wouldn't be that bad in that case.
A lot of the analysis of these twin-born combinations are coming from a combat perspective. This is fine, as far as it goes, but I think Brandon is really going to surprise us with the commercial applications of some of these powers in the Era 3 and Era 4 books.
I think a Hindsight should be able to store the senses of their Gold Shadows. I don’t know how useful that would be, but it sounds like an interesting way to use of the powers
That is very interesting! Maybe you could store double the amount of a sense if you are storing while burning gold because it stores both your own sense and the sense of the gold shadow at one time. That would make filling a tinmind a lot faster!
Its not that detrimental to store fortune, throughout the books its made clear you can store a percentage like wax always being at 10% less weight, 10% less fortune on a normal day not in battle would be completely unnoticeable you would just be a bit clumsy or end up making the wrong choice being in the wrong place wrong time and if you did you would immediately tap your fortune and get out keeping you at net positive fortune stored
That is a very good point. I was thinking too much about how terrible storing all of your fortune at once would be lol. But yeah, storing a fraction of it over a long period of time wouldn't be bad at all.
@@ExploringTheCosmerefortune also doesnt just mean luck… it could also mean in the metaphorical as like your fate. (This is how gold shadows are useful. Blank your fate and then burn gold, see what you couldve been and then how it could be)
Feruchemical Electrum is so odd as a power. It is useful for helping you focus on a task, but that isn't really an issue characters struggle with. The only thing I could see it potentially helping with is Intent. When using the various magics of the Cosmere, Intent can have a very significant effect. Maybe Feruchemical electrum can help someone put a ton of Intent behind other Investiture they have, which could have some effect?
Determination is sustained attention. So basically any long term sustained goal or projected outcome is benefitted by it. I bet you hit the nail on the head. (Stored determination(if identityless) could be applied to mechanical metallic arts) (/ i bet you this is how ai, and other things may get touched on in space age mistborn/) The elantrians have seons, the determination aspect is probably how scadrians achieve something similar.
Regarding Feruchemical Aluminum: In Bands of Mourning Wax and Wayne find an unkeyed gold metalmind full of health. It isn’t Wayne’s, but he can use it. It has no Identity component so anyone can use it, IF they are a Bloodmaker. Wax does not have the ability to store or reclaim health, and he can’t use the gold metalmind. Just like Wax, an Aluminum Ferring would not be able to use other metalminds. It doesn’t matter if they can store their Identity, they don’t have any other Feruchemical powers, so they can’t use other metalminds.
If storing investiture stores your ability to use it, and not the investiture itself, tapping a large amount of ability would be equivalent to burning duralumin. that being said, I don't remember seeing that it works that way anywhere.
I think you’re putting too much credit on Aluminum’s ability to cancel out other forms of investiture. Realistically, the user won’t even bother to stock up on their aluminum reserves given how useless the power is. Unless they’re aware that they’ll be in this situation in advance, they won’t be able to resist something like a lashing.
That is true, but if aluminum becomes as cheap and plentiful as it is on Earth, it would be easy enough to just eat your aluminum when you get up in the morning, always have it ready, and burn it before you go to sleep. At that point, though, I think there will be more technology in the Cosmere that makes this small advantage kind of worthless. I guess we'll see.
Loudmouth might be a Twinborn lifehack, I think that bit with Marasi is a misdirection. Are Scadrian's Allomantic and Feruchemical access, which is presumably their tie to the Shard Harmony, an element of their Identity or Connection?
The instigator is massively underrated. You could riot your own emotions, and then store the determination. Free determination no?!? Or can you not riot/soothe yourself? Either way all someone else has to do is store their identity and you could give them a metalmind that would give them the ability to tap/store determination/ riot them and have them store it. Its a pretty good one for like (moral amulets) *focus charms* etc etc

If you store fortune in your lonesome, you'd probably start choking on your own spit lol

Marsh sed if a seeker is skilled enough they can tell what emotions are being manipulated in book one

Maybe a twinborn with ferruchemical nicrosil could tap their metalmind while burning their allomantic metal for a compounding effect.
My personal name for Boiler is Underexposed. In reference to both exposure to elements, and to exposure to Seekers.
