I don't know if Crimea is a part of Ukraine for you, but you would like it there. Beaches, mountains, Unesco monuments, food, a combination of Islam and the Orthodox Church. Yalta, Eupatoria, Kaffa, Bakhchisaray. I have not been there yet, but Crimea is on my list.
BTW My uncle makes such a cherry liqueur. The recipe is over 100 years old and is from that region because my father's family lived in Volhynia ( today it is northwestern Ukraine) for 150 years, so there is some sentiment towards pre-war Poland.

My grandmother's recipe for tincture on cherries. Buy a kilogram of cherries, wash and dry them. Remove the seeds. If you like the slightly bitter taste, leave some cherries with seeds. Throw it into a large jar and fill it with a kilogram of sugar. Cover with gauze and let it stand until the sugar dissolves. It takes several weeks. You go to the Polish store. Buy 1 liter "Spirytus" there. This is 96% alcohol. Pour it into fruit with sugar. Close it tightly. It must be 6 weeks minimum. Cheers! XD
