    "I hate this drawing to be honest"
    Just goes to show that no matter how good you get you always see the flaws in your own work, I'm sure 90+% of us saw that illithid and went "That is a sick drawing" and didn't make a single judgement against it lol

    The reason i love this is i've always been paranoid of making mistakes in a physical journal. This inspires me and shows it ok to be raw and use it as a developmental tool. Thank you!

      It's a late response but you can you ring binder journal and replace the page with mistakes easily

    DM Journalling has been the greatest tool in my DM toolbox. I was using multiple google docs and sticky notes before and once I started keeping everything together AND on Paper, I found that I was able to retain my notes a lot more. The more I use the journal the less I need to study it at the table.
    Thank you for that.

    Really love your art, as a huge fantasy nerd and art student I'm loving taking inspiration from your designs and techniques, I really enjoy the thick ink outlines and shading you do to get that really gritty look

    I’m just starting to dm and I am an artist with many sketchbooks/journal combinations. I have been looking at everyone’s cool PC journals and have been sad that because I am the dm I don’t “get” to make a cool dnd journal but you have given me the inspiration and encouragement to create a dnd dm tome! Thank you! Beautiful work.

    I had to pause the video with every picture just to admire the effort you have put in there, with all the sketches, drawings and designs and notes. Just breath taking. I tend to take this kind of notes as a player, with less drawings though. I never thought I could work on DM stuff with this method as well. Thank you for sparking up my inspiration :)

    What i enjoy most from these videos is that if you have watched some of your videos the viewer can start to see the formulations of your thought process.
    Your journal documents the raw thoughts,your videos then showcase a fully developed and purified ideology.

    This video has inspired me to expand on my Eladrin elf's background. 🙂 For the Curse of Strahd campaign, she's currently using the Haunted One background. But her main one is Charlatan.
    Her real name is Lugosi. But for the longest time, since she vanished from her home (from a Feywild portal, as she lived there when she was young), she decided to use the name Xilfina.
    She doesn't talk about her life much, which leads her to be mysterious to her party members, but they're all friends amd get along well. She keeps a journal and writes in it about her thoughts and adventures or discoveries. 😊

    You inspire me Runehammer! Never have i ever considered my self someone who draws, but your little doodles inspired me... and i drew some pretty cool things today just for fun :) I was impressed i could actually create anything and you showed me not to take things too serious and just let my " right brain" do, and then judge after... well it really helped me with drawing - now i'm gonna apply that to all of my creative endeavors, Thanks!

    This took me over an hour to watch, as I paused on every page to scan it over. Always great seeing your DM Tome reveal, and I love the new approach you took to filming it! Our brains work in similar fashions when it comes to designing as my DM binder has similar notes and scribbles, however, to be fair, your artistry is collegiate while mine is elementary.
    "But what me done" had me cry-laughing. You were ALMOST ready to start on the new sentence when you blew that raspberry; I rewound that part like a dozen times. Also, I am tired.
    Looking forward to your 2017 attack!

    It's purely down to your vids that i got to "journalling", so i must say a big thanks Hank! And also my players wouldn't be having the fun in the games they do if it wasn't for you and the other "youtubers".
    And my team just love those "Timer Dice"! My d4 see so much action and they (the players) just can't get enough.
    Anyway, came back to an old vid to spread the love and give appreciation for giving us a glimpse into your magic - and giving us the means to make our own...

    Awesome video, I really enjoyed this and the previous Tome Exposed video. I've kept Gm notebooks off and on over the years, I'd like to be a bit more productive with keeping them.
    I find it fascinating that you keep info for different campaigns, ideas for games and other disparate pieces of info all in the same tome. I haven't been able to bring myself to do that and end up with several notebooks on the go. One for future game/campaign ideas and individual books for campaigns I'm running etc.
    The net result being many started, but not completely filled books. I'd like to force myself past that block and try to follow your example of book-keeping.

    Nice! When I sketch whatever as a graphic designer I tend to use a black Uni-Ball Roller Stick Pen Micro Point on bright white inkjet or xerox paper with no lines or the back of envelopes. They run out of ink faster than most imho I have Moleskine notebooks but don't really use them its like I feel I have to be perfect in those whereas an envelope or blank single sheets of paper loosen me up.
    I also use cheap notepads my mom gets in the mail for various premium item giveaways. however then you have all different sizes of paper that arent contained unless I put the letter sized ones in a binder or smaller ones in a hanging file folder or envelope which I guess is the point of keeping it loose and not constrained by a book of pages the same size on expensive paper.
    My natural talent is to sketch and was always good at gesture drawing with vine charcoal on large newsprint pads figure drawing in college. Interesting you can fit most of what you're thinking onto one page or spread and it doesn't look like much was scratched out or edited. If I write notes I run out of room or start writing in between lines of what I wrote or up & around the sides of an envelope for example it's like paper isn't big enough so small notebooks don't always work lol
    Although we always mapped AD&D maps on graph paper with pencil of course ;
    why did you go with a much smaller notebook and unruled this year?

    • @Runehammer1

    • @CollectionTHX1138
      @CollectionTHX1138 7 років тому

      Nice! yeah I have a small mead notepad to have in the car for whatever comes up it has the spiral on the side. I use bank giveaway premium item pens. I also use a small pocket flip style notepad stapled at the top from a sherriff's dept it was a giveaway. I use a golf pencil with that. I mainly use that with columbia cargo shorts with a season pass to an amusement park in the summer to jot notes like when waiting in line for coaster lol. thats for notes not sketching. I prefer no lines on paper and the micro point black pen sketching fwiw the thing about the Moelskine style notebooks that you use it's premium paper thats thicker and won't curl from ink and has some tooth to it as far as feel goes which is a big reason I feel I have to be perfect if I use those as opposed to cheaper stock or envelopes. will be interesting to see what your mini notebook looks like in a year. wouldn't be bad to actually see it in 6 months or once every quarter to see the progress and how your thoughts develop over time ; nice stuff thanx for sharing.

    I keep a Dm journal as well, I just wish my players would keep notes too; as a lot of my note taking is mental when Im working at 3am, and I don't write down I just retain until that afternoon (Weds mornings inspirations, weds afternoons is dnd)
    My Journal tends to actually be NPCs and the weird timeline they've gone and fucked with....

    • @Stratplayer05
      @Stratplayer05 7 років тому

      Interesting. I kind of like how the G2 is fairly non-smeary for a gel, but there are definitely times where a bit more ink flow would be nice, especially with some of the finer point ones. I should definitely give one a try then.

    every time i start a DM tome, it seems to get out of wack super fast, nothing flows i have ideas for long later times mixed in with the session that im running at hand. your seems to still flow nicely even though you mix everything in there.
    Does it ever bother you when have 2 pages of session notes, then your mind wanders and then you get 1-3 pages of randomness for further games or other games, and then pick back up where the current session is 4-6 pages later? See me i toss the book aside and start anew. Thats why all my tomes are liek 6 pages filled of $.99 notebook at walmart. I WANT A TOME!
