Frustrated trying to find my style mostly because I am so influenced by everything I see and want to try. Thank you for this video
This is a very interesting story of how your life has gone and your art has developed through it. I didn’t realise you’d done so much digital art and other mediums before, and it’s lovely to see so much of your artwork and your travel photos. Letting go of what isn’t working anymore can be such a key thing and hard to do even if you realise it. I’ve aspired to do digital art as I’ve seen such good work, but I’ve had a much easier time on paper both with drawing and painting, just able to do it rather than struggle trying to get it right, and then also to let go of getting it done as neatly or ‘well’ as other watercolour artists. I love your work, but I make more of a mess and that can look good too, just different.
This is a remarkable journey. I felt so drawn to what you were saying. We have to go down these rabbit holes over and over to find the right fit for each one of us, our unique talents, energy and expression. I am so inspired by this video, my journey has been a very mixed one and I am still finding my voice. But I know after seeing your story that my path is not impossible and I will arrive at myself and my own way of telling my story through art. Thank you so much for this very inspiring video.
interesting story. Glad you were able to find you path to your art journey. Tell your husband I say thank you for his service and to you thank you for your service too. Keep up the great work in developing more of your art journey.
Hey, great video! A little bit about how I'm discovering art, my mom actually got gifted an acrylic set for her birthday by her sister and I knew she wouldn't do it on her own so I offered for us to do an art thing together, we have never done this (never been really close) and I wanted to try watercolor instead of acrylic (cheaper, more forgiving unless one overworks, beautiful, ECT) and I'm discovering that this is really my medium, I've never really been a person to gravitate towards visual arts I'm an engineer, this is a crazy beautiful exp that I'm so grateful I'm opening myself up to.
I wanted to pop in and say I found you thru Emily Jeffords Share the Work series. Love your watercolors and your informative website...impressive! 🌿🌸🍃
Thank you for sharing this video, this was helpful and inspiring! Your art is wonderful 🤗 I think it’s a huge struggle for creatives to focus in on one thing/style but to also know when to explore… it’s definitely a balancing act. Struggling right now with focusing on one thing, I love creating various things in many mediums. Ah so hard to choose. You are a lovely soul, keeping posting videos, would love to see more from you 💗
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. It is quite helpful for me, because I decided to become an illustrator. I'm a grafik designer, studyed art history and heritage management, but all the ways lead back to drawing. I love to scrapbook, but more I love to design own stamp motives and such things. But my heart belongs to fantasy. It is there, every day in some way. I also write and sometimes I don't know where to put my creativity and where to start. This is the reason why I watch such videos as yours to inspire me and ask myself, what I want to do the rest of my life. Drawing, Painting and Writing my own book. Clear answer right now. Currently I'm working halfday to have some security, while I pack my things to go all the way to become an illustrator ;) So thanks for your videos. I love your art and I love watercolor. But also digital paintings ... Always these decisions... ;) Greetings from Germany
Lovely, Lovely work! And a wonderful story behind it.
I love this. You’re so amazing at what you do! Thanks for the inspiration.
I am glad you focused on this style. Good advice.
I resonated a lot with this video because you talk about concept art detail painting versus the more simplified and calming watercolor. I'm tied right now between the detailed concept art and simpler style too, I do both, so this was really inspiring to see somebody with the same situation c':
This is so great! Thanks for sharing your process :) I'm hovering between different styles, but I think I'm close. Keep making these! They are so encouraging!!
Such a genuine video. Thanks for sharing your story!
Wow ur artwork is super amazing
I just found your channel and I love your style so much! I adore whimsical creatures and landscapes and your color palettes 😍 Following! 💖
I loved your video! thanks for sharing :)
Just discovered you this evening, and have loved the videos I have watched. Naomi you are an inspiration! Fantastic work, books etc. Thank you.
I wish I had a friend who would treat me with that kind of tough love! My creative energy is stretched so thin among the things I doing and I have no idea which one would be worth focusing on.
Wonderful video, beautiful art and a kind soul....thanks for sharing
Just found you. Such a lovely video. Find still finding my style and loving exploring what I'm drawn to x
Great video Naomi!

Hi! Just wanted to say that I love your videos. They are all so inspiring! I really love the way they are edited, it looks so professional. And your work is really magical! Thanks for sharing your work process and for sharing all those great artist tips! Can’t wait to see more :)
Wow! Just stumbled upon your work on Instagram and instantly became a fan. Your watercolor work on the princess bride piece is EXCEPTIONAL. Excellent video btw! True inspiration.
This was inspiring ~ thank you 🙏
I love this!! I am so in love with your art and so glad for your journey that led you to it! I'm not a visual artist (yet) but am at the beginning of developing my voice as a fantasy novelist. I hope someday I can tell people what my turning point in finding my style was! I love your advice of keeping with what you like, what you have a great interest in. It's an excellent encouragement! I deeply enjoy following you
What an inspiring story! Your work is truly beautiful! I'm searching for my art style still. I've been working in 3D but I am looking to do some more illustrative work going forward. Thank you for the advice and I look forward to my own journey too.
😲👏👏👏👩🏻🎨Gran Artista!!!
Thank you so much for your lovely video. I find your art and your story so inspiring. I'm in the midst of deciding what kind of artist I want to be, it's challenging but I feel so blessed to have the choices I have. As a New Zealander I was touched to learn our beautiful country had a part in your journey. Thanks again for sharing so much. ❤️
I loved hearing your story! I am working on refining my own style at the moment and also improving my craft. Your mention of Noah's Art Camp piqued my interest, I think that course might be good for me!
This is so inspiring! You have a great way of explaining it. I really enjoyed this.
Yes ! Inspiring !
I’m exactly in the same state as you were. I love drawing but i don’t have my style or something that really works for me neither i studied art in my life.
Now my husband is the army training to work in the navy, so i guess i will be on my own a lot as you were. I’m still in that process of finding my own style.
So cool to see how your work has developed over time, Naomi! :D
I like your energy!
I draw since I have memory, but honestly I've never thought about my art style... I simply draw as I like in that moment. I try to explore and experiment with new media, new subjects, and so I have great time.
Thank you for sharing your story.
Oh gosh I just discovered your channel/art and I am innnn lovvvvveeeeee.
I just starting a few years ago and i’m always searching on improving my craft. Your story was inspirational.
I loved this and found this really inspiring!! :)
Hello Naomi! I'm so happy I found your channel. I absolutely love your art style, your personality and your stories about your journeys and your evolvement as an artist. Your should open a patron site and start teaching the knowledge you acquired from the online art classes you attended, as well as marketing techniques etc. Thanks for sharing your life and knowledge with us.
This video really helped I love doing landscapes and animals so I'm going to do that plus and some people is that a good idea I'm kind of new at art 😄😊
Heh I’m glad you want to move here! That’d be amazing ❤️☺️
I regret that i stop my drawing interest back when i was in junior high school, and never draw since then. Until i found that i think i suppose to keep doing what i like to do. In this 2 months im getting back to my track drawing. Of course i have to learn from the first place again. But im getting use to it. and i wish i can become an artist like you do. Draw whatever i like.... tumbs up
@@naomivandoren thank you, oh btw if you don't mind please check to my channel. Just if u have time lol
I loved this video! Thank you! I am just returning to watercolours again, but I am one of those transient ecclectics who seem to fall in love with a new medium every couple of years or so! Its almost become a cycle I think! At the moment I'm enjoying the darker more muted use of watercolour, its a magical medium! ;)
Loved, your video. I am still trying to find my style. I am older and just now exploring art.
Chris
Thanks for sharing your story. It’s so difficult to make the decision to pursue “this” when you’ve got passions for “that” and “oh, look, a new supply!” running thru your head. Your work is lovely and I enjoy your channel very much 🌺
I totally agree! It's also so very difficult to trim this kind of conversation down into even a video format... certainly a topic I still think about as things change.
I love art (in all its forms) and drawing and painting, but I’ve only ever used acrylics. But I just got my first set of watercolors and I am very excited to start painting. :) I love your paintings and your style and how you play with light and different colors; it’s very inspiring. :)
Very nice editing
That was SO interesting to hear. It is also very appearent in your present watercolor work that you took those Photoshop classes with focus on light. It is so beautiful how you manage to work various forms of light into your pictures. Could you perhaps do a tutorial on that? Best regards, Anna
Hi ... Just found your channel and am loving it. Watching more next; hope you’re still going strong 🌺
This is such a great video! I love how you take us on this journey you went through! I have been refining my style for years and your comment about honing in on one thing to save up your energy to really do that thing well really resonates with me. I enjoy lots of mediums and styles and expression and that variety doesn't always bode well for quickly refining aspects of my artist abilities and capabilities. Beautiful work and outlook 💕
Thanks for sharing this beautiful video, i love the gradual music added in. I am on a journey to get back into drawing too and love watercolouring too.. i guess the thing here is not know where the journey will take you and whether it's was a waste of time and materials when the final piece is not what you expect.. also comparing too much can be depressing too. But to learn it's true we need to take the first steps.. catch 22 really!
Naomi VanDoren thank you for the positivity and tips look forward to seeing more videos
I was trying so many different art things during my life..from designing and sewing clothes for dolls as a child,to designing and creating polymer clay beads, sewing clothes, knitting, designing, constructing and sewing art dolls, drawing, painting, ink, watercolor, acrylics, abstract flow art including, trying so many different mediums.. Everytime I thought: THAT IS IT!! and after some time it turned out-it is not... I took drawing and watercolor classes..line art was always deep in my mind..but my question is: is that NORMAL??? So many years of developing and influencing my art part of mind(some -economic university years-killed my time for art unfortunatelly) and I am still not sure if that what I represent now-is my style... or maybe it will stay like this... leaving me unsure forever;( Big greetings to you,Naomi.. I love listening how you speak:)
Have you checked the work of Moebius? Your current style echoes what he strived to achieve and was exploring in the last stage of his life. He was a true virtuoso and artistic genius. You should see the beautiful illustrations he did for Paulo Coelho's THE ALCHEMIST.
Really nice video! And I love the message that your style has not been forced, but that it was an exploration. I had a question about your sketches and paintings when you are travelling. How do you incorporate it? I always take a sketchbook with me, but when we are out I feel burdened? Like I don't want other people to have to wait for me while I do my art. So I never end up really using the art supplies I bring with me, while it is such a good opportunity.
Thank you for the elaborate reply :) It is really helpful and I will try it next time we go somewhere ^^
Your style looks like a simplified version of Stephanie Law’s style.
Isn't it just called a category?
One water color, the other digital. They don't have to mix.
You can even setup different websites if you really don't like mixing art.
May I ask how you define your style ? Ive mostly narrowed mine down but am not 100% sure if I am using proper definitions. Just curious ☺☺☺
Could you share the link for Noah's Art School? I don't know much about composition, painting in real life or how to create thumbnails.
What is the name of the art bootcamp you joined?.. i want to join an online course too
Lux con in us? I just now the LuxCon in Luxembourg?
Hey your house looks so Indonesian mostly house models.. u live in Indonesia ?? :o
Thank you so much! This month is when I really try to find which style i want to go for. And thank you for your experience. Take a look at my portfolio www.nilleillustrations.com If youd like. You do not have to, but would be fun. I have a day of today, and the rest of your videos will be watched =D Thank you again
Thank you! =D Yes It certainly can, I have done some research. And In Norway it seems that most artists should have several styles. Thank you again for the video again.
I wish I had a friend who would treat me with that kind of tough love! My creative energy is stretched so thin among the things I doing and I have no idea which one would be worth focusing on
