I totally agree with you about the ABU 7000. Mine sits on a light 6 to 15 pound line rated rod and gets most use chasing Coho on Puget Sound. It's sitting in my boat ready for tomorrow morning.
I'd like to say thank you, for your time and knowledge, it's a hobby for me and just for fun, stay strong and keep posting!!!!😊
Love your channel. I am able to service 20+ reals and feel confident having watch all your episodes. But I’m still waiting for the Ambassador 9000C tear down and maintenance.
Keep up the Great Work! Frank
THanks - I will see if I can got to it - Dennis
This is identical to the one that I had. Mine had a chrome metal spool in it though. I wish I’d never sold it. This is such a beautiful and well-made reel! Thanks for sharing this one Dennis! - Chris
I thought so! Thanks Chris
I bought two of these burgundy reels back in, I think '92. I still have one. All I've done to the one I still have is replace the pawl and worm gear. I've worked on reels for over 25 years, mainly my own and for friends. I take them totally apart and clean with a solvent and reassemble. A few tips: 1) When reinstalling the crank side cover on ANY baitcaster, hit the freespool and it will go on flawlessly, without risking damage to the two or four brake pins, and as he mentioned, also make sure the brake blocks do not slide off the pins, 2) Unscrew both sides (if applicable) of the axle caps and apply a small amount of grease on the threads. This will not only help keep moisture out, but it will keep that "O" ring supple, 3) Put a drop of oil on the shaft of the handle knob. Turn it sideways, drop oil in, and spin it to work it in, 4) Put two drops of oil on the line guide guard. Get the guide to one side, put one drop on the center of the guard, crank the guide over to the other side, and put another drop on the guards' center and crank away to evenly distribute the oil.
Thanks for the additional information and tips
Have this same reel. Use it for Surf fishing for bass and have caught bass up to 40lbs in the Cape Cod Canal! Awsome reel!
One of the best for surf or big Catfish -One of my favorites - Thanks
I would like to thank you for your knowledge and expertise, you rebuilt and brought back to life a couple of Penn reels that were my late fathers! I have since been able to pass them in working condition to his grandchildren! Thank you sooo much!!
Great to hear that they are getting a 2nd Chance - Glad to help - Dennis
Very nice reel sir. What are your thoughts on the Abu Garcia C3 or C4 Ambassador reels?
hi dennis there is a brass washer missing off the top of the bearing
Thanks - I will go back and check. It may have been stuck on the star adjuster
Oh well…was a good guess.
It was! Part of the diagnosis is to think what could be wrong and eliminate each possibility - Thanks - Dennis
Having only watched the first minute…ball from a bearing sticking in the works. Gonna watch and see what happens!
Nice try!
