    Well, what else can you say about these Giants of the Jazz World but Greatness! I went from 50's Rock & Roll to what is called Real Jazz, then to Jazz Fusion and also Prog Rock! What a Roller Coaster Ride of Great Sounds in my Life! At 78 years old it has been such a Blessing to have had this Musical Experience and I'm still going Strong!

    • @wayneguiney6771
      @wayneguiney6771 2 роки тому

      When I was a child in the 50's my friends and I weren't interested in rock'n roll: we had better, more interesting things to do. We did get our parents to buy rippled-soled desert boots and luminous socks. We'd say: "See you later alligator, in a while crocodile," but we didn't listen to the music: boring. No favourite groups, no posters on the wall, no adulation, no forming cliques and ridiculing others with different tastes. Later, I got interested in pop, rock 'n roll and jazz; taught myself to play drums; bought a Slingerland and played in 60/40 bands, built up a jazz records collection. But in 1971, I heard Wagner's, "Tristan and Isolde." What a revelation. Threw my jazz records in the bin. Built up a classical collection, only to give it away years later: no one appreciates that stuff! Don't go there. You're just setting yourself up for feeling isolated or hearing what you love ridiculed. Nowadays I have re-engage with drumming and listen to post- 40's jazz every day. But there are only three pieces of music that I really like, all classical. One is Ravel's, "Piano concerto for the left hand." There's a chance for you: say something derogatory! What a pain in the backside music is. Cage said that it was a kind of oppression: all that self-indulgent "self expression;" all that preaching; all that fascist- like control over people, oops, I meant sound; all that decadent old fashioned pretence at being mad. Yeah, get real, get a real mental illness you radio head, put yourself in a mental hospital and share your morbidity with the real thing: real human beings whose lives have been ruined by real paranoid. All that erotic muzak; all that bullying and intolerance; all those so called "geniuses"; all those stupid, pretentious lyrics: Voltaire said that if you want to say something stupid, put it in a song. Sex, drugs and rock 'n roll: a truly stupid slogan. A better one is: man is born free and everywhere is in chains. Rock music and drugs are just another link in the chain. There should be a moratorium on music. A bit of silence in the petrol station, in the supermarket, in the cafe, in the hardware dealer, in the home, ...... No chance of that: too many egos looking for adulation, too much money to be made by capitalists. Rage against the machine! Who are you kidding! The capitalists are laughing. Anyway, if we have to put up with music, might as well listen to these guys: definitely talented and the drumming's great.

    It is a clear winter afternoon in Austin, Texas in the early 90's and I find myself perusing CD's at ABCD's (Austin's Best Compact Discs) by Book Stop. They had a listening station and I tried this CD. It was my introduction to Wayne Shorter which led me to Juju, Night Dreamer, etc... and the late Michel Petrucciani.
    The fact that I still remember the day and where I found and bought this CD speaks for itself. Fast forward. It's now 2021 and this CD still gets a fair amount of play from my collection. Every piece is absolutely solid but Nefertiti stands out and never fails to move me. If you can find a copy of this album, it's worth having in your collection.

      A dear friend gave me a copy of this album which he dubbed onto a cassette tape. I felt like I had discovered a hidden portal to an alternate universe! This was (and still is) one of my go-to favorites when hosting dinner parties- guaranteed to draw inquiries and compliments. Twenty-five years later, I have since acquired a vinyl copy and it still stands out as a timeless masterpiece in my collection.

    I'm really overwhelmed by the individual brilliance of these artists, which culminates into a collective ultra excellence. The ensemble is just outstanding to say the least. Stanley Clarke caresses the bass with amazing fingering agility. Clarke thus invokes the fury of Wayne Shorter, who complements the playing of the rest of the members of the group through his saxophone. O man, the grand entrance of Michel Petrucciani is mind blowing. Pristine piano playing without a doubt. His piano playing has this soothing and exciting effect. He gradually soars to higher jazz musical levels. As a listener I seem to travel to a higher strata of jazz music with this brilliant pianist. Oh yeah, the music{piano} has a celestial levitating effect on moi{sic}. Comes in Lenny White who brings everyone back to a world of musical serenity. O yes, he is more than a time keeper. He brushes the skins of the drums but while one is in that melancholy state - boom!, he transitions into an explosive sound. Neither the rims or the skins of his instrument{drums} escape the wrath of the jazz explosion. But the beauty of it all is that the members of this jazz ensemble are singularly in perfect harmony. They all talk to one another musically. Wayne Shorter and Stanley Clarke enjoy their musical conversation, ah man! Hey man, the vocalist, Rachelle Ferrell, comes on stage and uses the "first instrument" ;viz; the voice, in an avant-garde kinda way, I'm smitten Charlie Brown! Her magical use of her voice elicits that Coltranesque effect from Wayne Shorter's saxophone playing. Boy, she pushes and pitches that voice unbelievably high, without losing the theme. I truly enjoyed this "virtual" concert, what a great performance by the ensemble and their featured vocalist{Rachelle Ferrell}. "If music be the food of Love, play on, give me an excess of it! " Muito Obrigado!!
    Theo Kgapola {Benoni}

    I find myself both fascinated and perplexed by the presence of Gil Goldstein and Pete Levin on this gig. Both are fantastically talented musicians, and they both understand how to orchestrate with synthesizers better than ...well, let's charitably say better than half of the folks in their profession. But WHY ARE THEY HERE? What was the 30-second elevator pitch for this performance? "Okay, hear me out, we're gonna take four of jazz's most talented musicians, put 'em together on stage to play a repertoire of new material, old chestnuts, and original modern jazz compositions...AND THEN WE'RE GONNA ADD A WALL OF MIDI GLOSS OVER THE TOP OF IT ALL!!!"
