Meanwhile, the Secret Service director testified before a congressional committee and was called on to resign over security failures at a rally where a 20-year-old gunman attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump.
The director of the Secret Service is stepping down from her job following the assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump that unleashed intensifying outcry about how the agency tasked with protecting current and former presidents could fail in its core mission.
Kimberly Cheatle had served as Secret Service director since August 2022.House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) will hold a full committee hearing titled "Oversight of the U.S. Secret Service and the Attempted Assassination of President Donald J. Trump." The hearing will conduct oversight of the U.S. Secret Service to gather information from Director Kimberly Cheatle following the assassination attempt of President Donald J. Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania.
The United States' secret service director Kimberly Cheatle admitted that they failed to protect Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump at a July 13 campaign rally in Pennsylvania this week.
While speaking before the House of Representatives Oversight Committee, the director testified, "We failed. As the director of the United States Secret Service, I take full responsibility for any security lapse."
"The assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump on July 13th is the most significant operational failure at the Secret Service in decades," she added.
US Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle acknowledged on Monday that the agency failed in its mission to prevent the assassination attempt on former president Donald Trump.
"The Secret Service's solemn mission is to protect our nation's leaders," Ms Cheatle said during testimony before the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability.
"On July 13, we failed," she said. "As director of the United States Secret Service, I take full responsibility for any security lapse." But she rejected a wave of bipartisan calls for her resignation.
Republican members of Congress are focusing on the role of the Secret Service, as their frustration and anger grow over the agency's response to an attempt to assassinate presidential nominee Donald Trump.
A House committee hearing will on Monday grill its Director, Kimberly Cheatle -something Speaker Mike Johnson said would make for "must-see TV" for Americans concerned about security lapses at a Pennsylvania rally earlier this month.
"She's got a lot to answer for. And these concerns are bipartisan," Mr Johnson told CNN.
Ms Cheatle's agency is charged with providing protection to the president and his family, former presidents, those in line to the White House and other political candidates.

Something fishy must be there as she was seeing to bypass questions related to the tasks of secret service on that very day for not giving priority to provide their service for two distinguished programs. Don't you think that it's funny in the distribution of their services! They prioritized the least important one that related to launching a casino or whatever it was in the presence of the 1st lady of United States and employed 12 special security service operators for her small function that could be covered smoothly by 4-5 operators but they preferred 1st lady's protection wad more significant rather than providing their top most security services to a big rally headed by former US President Donald J. Trump and might be the Next President. What a consideration!!! Moreover, they denied the request of providing Arial Support for the rally, and this is the point why they had denied this request. If there was Arial surveillance, the Shooter could be detected earlier that could stop him from shooting down the President and furthermore, the role of the Cop who was in charge of that building from where the shooter took position as a sniper to shoot down the President, and that Cop must had the knowledge of the shooter's presence and position and his task; but that Cop all the way gave OK signals to other security forces, did the same even after the shooting!!! His efforts to cover up the shooting position that's might give free exit to the shooter. Killing the shooter by the anti-sniper must have been in their list whether he was successful or not in his mission to kill Mr. Trump for stopping his mouth. I do think that all my concerns should have a good answer with 📌 the mastermind behind this nonsense and non courageous event of killing the Very Next US President. We would regret if it would be covered up in the name of Iran as there are so many idiotic clues that indicate the involvement of several national security agencies of United States to stop Mr. Trump. The resignation of the Director of National Security agency and acknowledged the failure to give adequate protection to The President (former and next to be) should not be the answer to this non courageous act.
