I think Indow Window Inserts are an awesome looking product, but I wanted to see what else was out there and if there was anything cheaper. I found a great quality product by a company called Larson who make storm windows. In this video I show a demo model of Larson Comfortseal interior window inserts. They're easy to install, and help keep your house warmer in the winter, cooler in the summer, and quieter all year round!
They are easy to install DIY, here is my detailed installation video: • Installing Larson Comf...
I like that this is a quality product that's not too expensive. For a similar size, the Larson comfort seal are less than half the price of Indow. They also do them in different styles, so you can have it fixed (a single pane of glass), as well as single or double hung, or slider. You can choose from 3 colors of frame as well as clear or low E glass, which helps keep out the heat from the sun. That's not an option available with Indow as they're using acrylic instead of glass. They're not sold online though, so check out the Larson website for a local dealer. While they're not sold online you can check the Menards website to get an idea of pricing.
Indow is a registered trademark of R Value LLC. Larson is a registered trademark of Larson Manufacturing Company of South Dakota, Inc. I'm not affiliated with either company, just a proud homeowner, lover of This Old House, and someone that's passionate about DIY and home improvement!

We need an alternative for these. Indow makes you call them for a quote, and the person I got on the phone was TOO in your face about their product. I mean, I get it, your product is great, but getting to the point of not wanting to make me a single Insert, because it "wouldn't make sense". Definitely wanted to make the big sale for all my 11 windows.
Thank you soooooo much for this video! It’s truly a life and money saver!
They're about 400 dollars for my case, not too bad tho price point
Follow up once you have it and let us know what you think. I'd be interested to hear.
So . . . Now what? If the Larson inserts are discontinued . . . what else is out there?
Thanks 🙏
ComfortSeal is discontinued since Dec 2022
Oh no! That's really annoying. I'm very happy and was planning to order some more.
Yep, just called home depot. Terrible damn shame.
@@atinyleaf5014 nooooooooooooooo. this is terrible. now we are stuck with an extremely expensive window
If all it takes is an air tight seal to make an air pocket between the window and plastic, wouldn't a double sided tape and heat shrink plastic insulation kit perform the same??
Hi Scott, did you say they discontinued this product? first of all thank you for this video review and super helpful and I was initially looking at Indor and came across your video, I do think they are quite pricey and wy I was considering this option. How did this hold up after all these years?
I have a neighbor AC humming into our living room at 38 DBA noise lvl and planning to buy this to solve the humming noise or dent it, is it really that noise efficient?
Yeah unfortunately no longer available but it's been good for helping quiet noise from outside. I think indow should do a decent job too. Adding an extra layer, with a tight seal around the edge will absolutely help. The wider the distance between the panes the better for sound dampening
@@ScottAllison got it, so ur thinking have it sit on the furthest ledge be best to detor the sound, cuz my window and ledge is about 4-5 inches easily.
Does it work with blinds installed? I want these windows for noise reduction.
I’d like to know how the noise reduction goes. Major thanks for this; it’s been a stressor for me.
The noise reduction is great! It's quite dramatic. ua-cam.com/video/at1ENL1QUrI/v-deo.html
Is it true these are discounted and you cant get the anymore? Whys that
Yes, unfortunately Larson decided to stop producing all storm windows as of December 2022. :(
@@ScottAllison yikes, have you found out why?
No but I suspect they're just not that profitable. I think it's a good product so I think it's a real shame.
@@ScottAllison i really wanted 1 for sound thats so unfortunate
Is there an alternative type of window Insert like this one
For the price i buy a window double pane and install it , half of the price
I don't know where you buy your windows but when I priced up that, a new window was double the price of this. And most people won't have the skills to install a whole new window themselves. This interior storm window option is a quick and easy install. BTW, in my case I already had a good double pane window. So this new storm window added another pane of glass!
@@ScottAllison most of windows are between 150 to 200 Home Depot
@@ScottAllison double hang
@@davidarroyo8831 Your are not getting a 60"x60" window for $200 more like $500 if that. Then if you want anything that is quality and not junk you be way more then that.
I need a update what to do
You mean it’s not pronounced mee-nards?
Did they help in noise reduction?
Yes! Big time! Check out this video where I review the performance after install ua-cam.com/video/at1ENL1QUrI/v-deo.html
@@ScottAllison thanks for that review. It is possible to order custom sizes through Lowes? I can see it is possible through Menards, but I live in California and don't have a Menards locally.
Yes, you can order custom sizes at Lowe's. That's where I got mine from. Just go to the doors and windows desk and speak to them.
