If I’m Shanell, and I signed to two major artist prior to YMCM Records, there’s no way I’m signing to a third artist. I would learn all I needed to know from the first experience, def would’ve stayed solo and independent. I’ve never heard anyone signed to these recording labels saying there were happy, and satisfied plus they last years on the label. It’s always short-lived.
Being independent is also extremely hard especially back then when most people that were successful were still from non-independent record labels. Nicki and Drake both did benefit from record labels. Nicki even did the unprecedented and avoided a 360 deal. Shanell needed to at LEAST get on the RIGHT label with the RIGHT deal. She was a pop star on a rap label with crazy vocals and moves, but that label didn't even bother to at least put her on some hooks for songs to take advantage. Shame.
I feel like it’s easy to blame it on lack of promotion instead of your music just not being accepted by the masses. Drake and Nicki had the same amount of promotion but they just have that something special that made them widely popular.

Being from New Orleans, alot of old heads will tell you that Birdman ALWAYS been sketch and alot of people been calling him out for his grooming of minors
Don’t forget Wayne had to sue Birdman for his money because he wasn’t getting paid. This happened years ago. He got his catalog back, but then sold Nicki Minaj, Drakes, and his catalog for $300-500k, i believe. If it were last than that, he was lowballed.
This was so good!💖 Would love to see a video on Nicki’s label, I don’t really understand what she’s been doing regarding the competitions and artist she’s claimed to sign?
The reason behind Curren$y’s (Spitta) departure has actually come out. His contract was terminated due to the fact that the label wouldn’t have been able to recoup. Spitta lost a lot of his belongings in Katrina and Wayne knew that his artist getting his life together would probably be the better move so he dropped him. Some of those details could be slightly off, but overall it was because of Katrina and that’s why Spitta has never spoken ill of Wayne.
Thanks for sharing 🙏🏾 Prayers out for those who were on the cash money and young money roster 🕊️also those negatively affected from doing business with them 🕊️

LIL WAYNE WAS LIFE IN HS!!!!! I’ll hear “Stunting Like My Daddy” and immediately I’m right back there. So talented and so underrated. Wayne doesn’t get ENOUGH praise! Him and Eminem are up there w Pac for me. Pac is king but these 2 are phenomenal.
When I was 17 and 18...nothing was playing in my car other than Young Money. I LOVED that Ms. Parker song...I also played that Chris Brown song "follow me like Twitter" and the "shoes" song. Anyone else remember those classics?! The In My Zone mixtape from Chris was a masterpiece to me. Lmao I miss those days so much.
The truth is, those acts outside of Drake, and Nicki, couldn’t produce a hit on their own without a feature from the big 3. The big 3(Drake, Nicki, Wayne) created their own lane/wave, while the rest were riding a wave sounding like every generic trend in that era. Tyga was never looked at like a YM artist, he was his own brand.. he just didn’t fit in. Drake, and Nicki, were superstars- so they get priority regardless of what’s going on.. I’m sure everyone else was mad, and probably started acting out- even to the point they felt the label were to blame for them not being stars.. the truth? Who’s made a legacy, and who isn’t relevant?
I would also like to add that Tyga, Drake, and Nicki were bound to make it because they had a following/ buzz before they signed to Young Money. Their work ethic was strong.
In 2012-2013 i accidentally found a site talking in great detail how Drake had to take Cash Money to court privately to get paid. and it was settled in his favor. this never hit news back then funnily enough...

I was about to say, that Shanelle had a big song back then called “Impossible” but then I looked it up and it was another chick named “Shontelle” welp! 😂
Honestly law suits aside, the way lil Wayne used his power to halt the release of lil twist album because he knew twist was going down a bad drug addiction is honestly the most admirable thing. Wayne asked him to stop and get it into check but when he seen twist not taking it seriously he made him take it seriously. I mean probably should have put him in rehab or some sort of professional program but I wish all music labels would do this! Instead of glorifying drugs and the use of them. I will say if I remember correctly Lil Wayne dang near always had his “double cup” in music videos or interviews… always had his blunt lmfao so although that’s admirable and shows Wayne truly cared about his young rappers life. I still think Lil twist music was garbage but hey maybe it’s because I wasn’t as high as him when he was rapping 😮💨
Yeah, I though that definitely showed Lil Wayne’s character in a positive light, but I have to ask myself if lil twist was just following the footsteps of every other adult on the label. Nicki admitted to doing drugs, Wayne definitely was on them, wouldn’t be surprised if most of the label engaged with some substances too.
I’m looking 👀 at that story from different angles, as you mentioned Wayne was always rapping about his lean and weed when in fact he actually doing much harder drugs. Did you hear 👂🏽 Twist saying that he was doing pills 💊 and drugs with his boss and people around him, his boss was Wayne so he kind of low key told us that Wayne was partying right along with him and maybe 🤔 possibly got him on pills! So he seemed like a hypocrite because he couldn’t even get his own sobriety in check especially during the height of young money, do you remember back to back stories of Lil Wayne being in the news for having seizures and it was reported to be caused by his drug use and or lean?! Lil Wayne was having so many seizures that the media even claimed to be worried about him because he was said to have went unconscious on an plane ✈️ ride after having a seizure in the air, they had to do an emergency landing. He ended going to jail for a year for a gun charge in New York back in like 2011 or 2012 and while he was there he gained so much weight he looked healthy again like 2004 The Carter version of himself and got out and started losing weight again and then going bald and having matted looking 👀 dreads that were falling out. He ain’t looked healthy again since that bid. Anyway I also can understand not dropping money on a active user who is hasn’t even dropped their first album and is stupid enough to start getting high and thinking that he should have a budget dropped on him for a project, where they do that at?! Not to mention he went Buck wild and kept getting arrested for dumb stuff. I don’t blame Wayne and his music from the clips here he was trash and the public didn’t really take to him.
I knew that Cash Money was sued but I didn’t know about Young Money. I just thought the group split up. No wonder Lloyd didn’t sign with them. Also I had a big crush on Lloyd back then.

It's crazy out of all of them drake, nicki, and tyga are the only ones that had success in solo projects even after putting out another group album.
We can definitely include Tyga in the conversation with Drake and Nicki
Tyga is like Flo Rida and Jason Derulo. They have hits but aren’t really remember either if that makes sense.
Tyga still holding it down. A lot of haters may disagree but he still drop hit tracks but he isn't really backed up by a strong major label.
true. his singles do really well actually and get radio play.
Yea but his career is just singles. Nobody is jamming a Tyga album nor has he had a #1 album
Tyga is weak like T-rell his old manager. TF
You need to be on national TV. Well you will be !
Wayne really wanted to help them all but the two that were more widely received by the fans because of presentation was drake and nicki . The others like tyga & jay sean had to do things on their own and that was a blessing for them .

Shame.
You know that now but times are different. You needed a label back then.
She wasnt really sign 😂😂😂😂 they use her 😂😂😂😂😂
I feel like it’s easy to blame it on lack of promotion instead of your music just not being accepted by the masses. Drake and Nicki had the same amount of promotion but they just have that something special that made them widely popular.
Idk about Drake but Nicki went and did her own thing because she wasn't being pushed at the label. She worked alot for herself behind the scenes.
they lowkey had more promo imo
In the music industry you pretty much better off rollin by yourself
Fun Facts:: hot boys broke up it was due too financial mismanagement.& everyone left cash money besides Wayne. Also Juve left due to contract disputes & missing royalties. Manny Fresh whom was the producer & 1 half of duo Big Tymers he also left cash money due to financial reasons. So right there thats all you need to know about Birdman or should i say Baby. & I also think he groomed Wayne. They was always kissing on the lips & when caught "thats my son" but yet theres an interview where him & wanye were on 106 & park & they asked baby a question about kissing girls & as birdman tryna answer wanye speaks over him "im the only one he kisses" thats sus 🧐👀

Birdman playing with everyone’s money
Being from New Orleans, alot of old heads will tell you that Birdman ALWAYS been sketch and alot of people been calling him out for his grooming of minors
Don’t forget Wayne had to sue Birdman for his money because he wasn’t getting paid. This happened years ago. He got his catalog back, but then sold Nicki Minaj, Drakes, and his catalog for $300-500k, i believe. If it were last than that, he was lowballed.
