#42:54 Devia Aria--- Caro Nome. some slight "ticking" of the Cassette recording tape is heard, but the singing is wonderful from her as is her voice. Brava!
I love Devia. I also sang in the chorus with Sherill Milnes doing Rigoletto in Miami! The soprano in that production was a new soprano whose name escapes me, and the tenor was Denis Gulyas. We had some luxury casting as Justino Diaz sang Sparafucile.
Maddalena was "Isola Jones" and the performance was repeated Dec. 31. with "Vern Shinall" as Monterone. Neither one was a radio Brdcst. so this is a rare recording .
Fun Fact! This run of Rigolettos with Milnes was originally going to have Beverly Sills as Gilda to coincide with the new EMI Angel recording. When she announced her retirement in1979, she changed her schedule and cancelled a number of performances and these MET performances were not to be.
Both Milnes and Isola Jones are from the Chicago area, Shicoff, from NY, so the principals being an American cast. Milnes already had been singing for quite awhile by 1979, among his earlier roles, was a 1968 Met. radio Brdcst. in Luisa Miller, with Tucker and Caballe.
@@BaroneVitellioScarpia1 It was really outstanding, for all 3, Milnes , Caballe and Tucker, the oldest, it was a great success for the 54 year old Tucker, a veteran of 23 years at the Met. I talked with Milnes about it, when he came back yearly (sometime ago) to (Monisteros-Spl,.) Chicago restaurant, with his opera group of young singers, for judging at that Italian restaurant, they always had singers coming in, and he mentioned an older Tucker , when I asked him about Luisa, back then he said "Tucker called him "kid" and he said when we sang Forza Tucker said "Forget what they told you, "I'm going to show you how Lennie and I did it"--- of course Milnes was impressed as Warren was his operatic idol .

While I very much appreciate this live performance being provided (thanks for the upload!), I'm amazed at how annoyingly vocal the people around the microphone are, all performance long. Audible gasps, chuckles, and random mutterings all throughout and interrupting some crucial singing moments! Ridiculously rude to the performers and fellow audience members. They should get some voice lessons and jump up on stage if they want to join the performance so damn bad!
@@BaroneVitellioScarpia1 Shicoff later refined and polished his Duke further and was in then in his prime singing it, though his voice was beautiful here . In 1984 in his rec. of it complete with Grubrova , Sinopoli went back to the original Verdi score and so no high Notes, no high B in La Donna or for the Soprano through out or in the quartet ending.

Milnes sounded quite powerful, Neil young and very Lyric with his ringing top .
Neil is one of the last great tenors.
