Also there is the Burns Bright. Similar to the Rob Roy. You add a dash of Absinthe and instead of the regular bitters you substitute orange bitters. It's good!
Great work, Cara! Can’t wait to see your video on the Vieux Carre’. I didn’t realize it’s similar to the Bobby Burns. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and perspectives!
Thank you Cara! I rarely make cocktails with my scotch, but I am going to make both of these. I knew of the Rob Roy, but had never heard of the Bobby Burns. Looking forward to trying it!
Great video. I’m typically more on the Old Fashioned side but have family and friends that opt for the Manhattan so will need to give these variations a try. Bourbon over here is typically a bit cheaper than Scotch so I may need to hold off on trying these somewhat aka - my family can drink …. a lot. The Bobby Burns though is new to me, will have to give that a try. Cheers ..
Saw your Community Post and went right in to watch the whole Vid and also checked out the link! Hope you get more sponsorships in the future, you deserve it.
Before I knew what a Rob Roy was, at my favorite bar (at the time mostly due to their happy hour), they could make me a manhattan, but only with bourbon and Martini Rosso, so one night I asked them to make it with Monkey Shoulder instead, and do a 60ml scotch, 20ml Rosso, 10ml Martini Extra Dry, and two Luxardo cherries - I still have the result every once in a while when I'm there, as the nightcap. Scotch in a Manhattan just works!
Sitting at a local bar sipping my first Rob Roy. Awesome! I love blended scotch and love manhattans. Therefore I must admit I love the Rob Roy!!! Great lead on a nice new cocktail. Thanks Cara
I love this type of videos. Great info as well. I always associated the Bobby Burns with Benedictine, so using Drambuie really triggers my curiosity. 🙂 Thanks for bringing some entertainment and ideas this Sunday. Cheers!
Bobby Burns with Drambuie... channeling a Rusty Nail, somewhat? Will have to try it... not sure why it never clicked seeing as both a Manhattan & a Rusty Nail are among my favourite cocktails. ;)
I've been making Mahattens and Rob Roys for over a 2 years but decided to try the Bobby Burns based on this video. Holy cow, what a good cocktail it is! Thank you for showing me how to improve this basic cocktail.
I went through a Manhattan moment this spring. I am not a fan of whisky, so I substituted a dark tequila instead (Jose Cuervo Especial for those keeping score). I kept everything else the same (sweet vermouth - Martini brand) and the Maraschino cherry (added an extra depending on how my day went). Cocktail drink still came out good and sipped on it with some Korean BBQ beef.
I did one last night I call the Edinburgh 2 oz Ardbeg 10 Year Islay Single Malt 1 oz Lustau Amontillado Los Arcos Sherry 3 Dashes Angostura Aromatic Bitters .25 oz simple syrup Stir with ice in a mixing glass, strain into chilled glass, Garnish with Luxardo Maraschino Cherry. It works very well, as the Sherry and the Scotch perfectly complement each other
@@BehindtheBar Let me know if you like it! You can also do it as a Reverse Manhattan which, somehow, makes you taste the smokiness more. Not sure how that works. I also have wanted to see if spraying the glass with absinthe first would make it even better, but I lack absinthe
I have always added Benedictine to my home made manhattans regardless of whether using scotch, rye or bourbon, but I didn’t realise it was a bob burns. It’s a great drink!
Great video! The Rob Roy is my favorite cocktail of all time. Or rather, I treat it like a family of cocktails. The Rob Roy itself I make three different ways: Sweet, as in this video; Dry, with dry vermouth and orange bitters; and a Perfect version in which I use equal parts sweet and dry vermouth and add Peychaud's bitters. The Bobby Burns I make without the bitters and a glass rinsed with absinthe. It's close relative is an original creation of mine that's basically a Bobby Burns using the Drambuie instead of Benedictine and dry vermouth instead of sweet. I call this one the William Wallace after another Scottish folk hero with an alliterative name. Between these variations and the amazing variety of both blended Scotch and single malts, I never get tired of Rob Roys. Cheers!
@@BehindtheBar I made the Bobby Burns this evening and I absolutely love it. I will try it with Drambuie next time since I am quite fond of it. Thanks so much for your great videos.
Hi there! I’m really fond of this cocktail, a delicious one, can you share with me what brand of cherry garnish you prefer for this one specifically, that would be great! Thanks for all your content, and now I definitely know a bit more hahah
My pet rodent and I will hopefully enjoy these later this evening. I say this knowing full well that…. The best-laid schemes o' mice an' men gang aft agley.
As a Scot who loves proper whisky, and a manhattan, I've actually rarely had one of these. But I live in Ayrshire, so I think I might have to bug some of my pals in bars to start making the Bobby Burns. Though Drambie is gank, so I'd rather not have it in 🤣 Amazing recommendation, so will be making these! Also used to have an owner who insisted all oil notes (like the orange and lemon) should be lit up for theatrics lol
This is a terrific comparison of two amazing cocktails, Cara! I have had one of each and I have to go with the Bobby Burns!! I have always had the Rob Roy and had never even tried the Bobby Burns! The extra layer of Benedictine makes a complex, and sublime cocktail. It's wonderful!! Thank you!! :-)
I think, the Manhattan variation with scotch will taste better. also, here in this part of the world Scotch is more available and familar taste then Bourbon. And I agree, the cocktail named after the Bard is better. I've often thought of makin Manhattan with scotch. Didn't know it has a name with poetic association. Thanks Cara.
I love both of these cocktails, but I have to agree that I'd give a nod the BB if I could only have one. So what was that first tattoo? No fair leaving us hanging!
For the history and then cocktail recipe videos there needs to be a "get stuck in it" option to the good bits. Realizing I'm 3 min in learning about Bobby's and my glass is still empty. LOL
The fact that you are laughing at your first skincare joke while making the second joke just makes the sell that much more endearing. How could I say possible say no!
i started to wonder why I was never seeing any new vids from you.. Despite having bell on all i wasn't getting notifications :( good news have a few videos to catch up on!
Definitely a significant overlap, but the rye v scotch obviously makes a big difference (drier and spicier v richer and potentially peated), plus the absinthe and peychauds in the Louisiane adds another aspect. Gives two good uses for Benedictine though 😉
Scotch mmm o yeah. I’d drink Scotch for brekky if I could get away with it. Do we get beard balm and beard oils.? Rob Roy Bobby Burns so now I know🍹🍹🍷🍷

Gonna try this tonight. Been obsessed with Whisky Sours lately, but have really wanted to find an interesting cocktail with Scotch. Can't wait!
Excellent. I recently tried and loved a Rusty Nail and also love Manhattans. Sounds like these both will get made soon!!
Love how you present the skin care products with your arm behind your back again, class.
Haha old habits die hard…
Haha, all that was missing was ”men’s skin care regime” so now you know!

It’s been ages since I had a Bobby Burns, well I now know what my first drink order after lockdown will be

Can you point us in the direction of where you get that nice wide mouth mixing glass?
That’s actually a fairly inexpensive one from a local hospitality supplier:

Glassware is very important

Must be honest, you make my heart flutter a little bit. ❤️
"You only have one face!" 😂 Why do I find that so convincing?
Scotch is a drink from Scotland
Scotts are people from Scotland
Both are quite enjoyable
What are your thoughts on substituting Glayva for the Drambuie?
It definitely could work but I’d go easy as it is sweeter and more liqueur-ish. Lovely orange notes though!

So what was the Burns quote you got tattooed?
It’s from Tam O’Shanter, you can guess haha
You’re a peach Cara, cheers from the states! 🍻
So.... what came first....The Bobby Burns or The Pendergast?.
Definitely the Bobby Burns! The Pendergast is a modern classic, I think 2013 or so?
The fact that you are laughing at your first skincare joke while making the second joke just makes the sell that much more endearing. How could I say possible say no!
🙈 haha!
Cara, could you specify what kind of vermouth that is? Dry? Sweet? I am both a big fan of Manhattans AND vodka martinis, so I tend to get confused.
She does mention that it's a "Rosso Vermouth", which is a sweet Italian vermouth!
Yeah this one is sweet!
Thanks... ah, I get it now... rosso = red = sweet
Thanks to the sponsor, Great video Ms Cara, dressed on the conservative side, you still look great!!! Very professional and classy as always!!!

Oh man that’s so sad to hear! We’ve still been putting out something every week but the YT algorithm doesn’t seem to love us at the moment haha
They are Great videos, always learn something,
I wonder how the Bobby Burns would be with Chartreuse, since you introed it as "an herbal liqueur" then specified two different variations of such.
Could definitely work, it is a stronger herbal flavour than Benedictine so would dial it back a bit, even just 5ml
@@BehindtheBar I have Chartreuse, but not the others. :)
I wonder how the Greenpoint Manhattan (using chartreuse) would be as a variation on the Rob Roy? Hmmm… 🤔
Pretty good I reckon! Especially with a fresh, apple-y whisky
