No matter what you think of Ashlee Simpson - this song is very, very well-written. Catchy, but the harmonies are more complex than most pop-rock songs from that era. I still can't believe that this song was recorded with real strings, while "November Rain" had synthie strings, programmed by Axl Rose...

This song and Autobiography are beyond relatable- both for various reasons. People who don't know me make assumptions based on what a person who hates me (my mom and those she's manipulated over the years) says. Instead of asking for my side of things people have taken her word. There's more than what lays on the surface Just ask me. I felt like my brother (only boy) was put on a pedestal. I lived a life where I was always below and very few people believed in me. I was considering enlisting in the military out of high school. My family was supportive. My brother was seriously considering enlisting. My family freaked out because they "didn't want him to go overseas and get his head blown off or seriously injured". I'm the oldest. 🤷♀️
so um why the fuck does anyone care if she doesnt sing all the time!! gosh everyone is like oh she doesnt sing. to lip sync means to have something to mimick... soo who is she mimicking.... herself!!!?? so shes lip syncing to her own voice?? how is that wrong? its her voice for gosh..
But see, the thing is, thats not even really her voice cause she flat out has no talent. So, the people in the studio fix it with autotune and whatever else they can use. So no. She isnt even mimicking herself. She is mimicking what she wishes she could be. You hear her real voice when she actually tries to sing live and thats when she gets booed off the stage. Seriously. Look up her halftime show (i think it was for the orange bowl. idk it was some football game.) Honestly, even after they autotune her horrible voice, it still sounds like crap in my opinion. But to each their own.
whts wrong with her being who she wants to be music is about expression some do it by instruments alone others use their voices. i understand why some have trouble with people who arent naturally or originally talented. i understand the whole i work hard to sound good naturally so she shouldnt get easy money by playing the puppet. but she's living out her dream isnt she. she cant sing (dont know if thts true but whtev) but wants to. wht is she suppose to do... give up?? regardless the song that is composed and is sung by her "inner" artist or lip sync by her is very good. plus if i start laying down a foundation and later on people build the rest of the house it doesnt mean i had no hand in the finishing product right. look i dont like seeing people work and get ridicule by it. theres always someone who will work harder then you and they will deserve more. but any effort to work on should be acknowledge. voice or no voice she has a song and she was a part of it either way so its hers and she can sing it however she'd like.
this album got me thru the worst part of my life. I had come and just listen. its been years and these tears are so worth it! thankyou! I MADE IT!!! DONT FEEL SORY FOR ME!
Ashlee Simpson, is so talented! It was sad to see it seemingly fall apart because of the SNL incident! I had all of her albums, met her in person a couple of times for signings and been to her concert and I think she had something very special. I can't believe it has been 20 years since this album dropped, time flies, and honestly I liked every song on the album it is rare to find that.
I'll tell ya my life is music it has always been my escape. This song is exceptional. It's fantastic. I like Ashlee when she was like this her natural beauty shines. Hope she still sings. Go back to your dark hair Ashlee it was beautiful. Blondes are a dime a dozen.
Both Ashlee and Jessica are gorgeous Ashlee looks like her Mom and Jessica looks like her Dad, different features but still similar! That was one gorgeous family!!
She is beyond talented, more so then Jessica. Her voice is amazing. Also.. I can relate because to my father I'll always be living in the shadow of my sister
OMG! I was singing this song before, when I was kid not knowing that this is the title and she's the singer of this song. Just found a CD inside our house and doesn't have it's plastic box. Of course, internet was not our usual thing before. Happy I've found it and finally see the music video.
When I was in elementary school, like maybe 5th grade... like 2005, I was really into her and my family made fun of me for it. I mean, every time I revist these songs and the album I realize I still like these songs. I mean, they were good songs!!! I think Ashlee could have been a bigger influence in music today if that whole SNL thing didn't happen. People are always quick to tear someone down when they make a reasonably minor mistake. I still love this album. You do you, Ashlee.

I was six years old
When my parents ran away
I was stuck inside a broken life
I couldn't wish away
She was beautiful
She had everything and more
And my escape was hiding out and running for the door
Somebody listen please
It used to be so hard being me
Living in the shadow
Of someone else's dream
Trying to find a hand to hold but every touch felt cold to me
Living in a nightmare
A never-ending sleep
But now that I am wide awake
My chains are finally free
Don't feel sorry for me
All the days collided
One less perfect than the next
I was stuck inside someone else's life and always second best
Oh, I love you now 'cause now I realize
That it's safe outside to come alive in my identity
So if you're listening
There's so much more to me you haven't seen
Living in the shadow
Of someone else's dream
Trying to find a hand to hold but every touch felt cold to me
Living in a nightmare
A never-ending sleep
But now that I am wide awake
Then I can finally see
Don't feel sorry for me
Mother, sister, father, sister, mother
Everything's cool now
Mother, sister, father, sister, mother
Everything's cool now
Oh, my life is good
I've got more than anyone should
Oh, my life is good
And the past in the past
I was living in the shadow
Of someone else's dream
Trying to find a hand to hold but every touch felt cold to me
I'm living in a new day
I'm living it for me
And now that I am wide awake
Then I can finally be
Don't feel sorry for me
Don't feel sorry, don't feel sorry for me
Don't feel sorry, don't feel sorry for me
Living in, living in, living in the shadow
Living in, living in, living in a new day

Both Ashlee and Jessica are gorgeous Ashlee looks like her Mom and Jessica looks like her Dad, different features but still similar! That was one gorgeous family!!
this music video of Ashlee Simpson was sickly good.
thanks me for liking my own comment.😄
Relatable. 🤦🏼♀️ I'm the rebel of my family and my older sis is the opposite of me. 💁🏼♀️
One of my all-time favourite songs!
Ashlee was the reason I started dyeing my hair jet black when I was 14/15 and I’ve been dyeing it every since 🥰 I’m 30 now hehe
Qual a cor original do seu cabelo?
(Hair)
She is beyond talented, more so then Jessica.
Her voice is amazing.
Also..
I can relate because to my father I'll always be living in the shadow of my sister
One of my favorite albums growing up and love this song! I really wish she would make more music like this 💙💜!
No Puedo Creer Que Despues De Tantos Años Todavía Me Haga Llorar 😭
Ashlee Te Amo 😍
Yo tenía 13 años cuando salio este album y ver el video me hace recordar lo feliz que era, con mis converse, el primer perfume de Paris Hilton jaja
This is my favorite song by Ashlee
OMG! I was singing this song before, when I was kid not knowing that this is the title and she's the singer of this song. Just found a CD inside our house and doesn't have it's plastic box. Of course, internet was not our usual thing before. Happy I've found it and finally see the music video.
Listening to this when I was 16 and now I’m 34 and always felt I knew Ashlee more than Jessica. She’s on another level 🔥🔥🔥
My favorite Ashlee song!! This song still rocks in 2018!!
Stanley Schmidt It's 2AM and I can't believe that I've totally forgot about this song, it was my jam back in 2004 days.
Que buenos tiempos ❤️❤️ pasaron tan rápido

😭😭😭this song still hits me hard. forever invisible
I miss Ashlee and wish she would record another album and release it :( Music was so good back then. Now all it is is folk/pop and EDM. Hate it.
This is pop though
Letting Go king of
@TrixieMattel brought me here, my teenage self thanked me, it’s been a minute but this song is great!
Me too lol it's still a banger
people does not like her voice but she has a cool voice the pinky girl is what people what her to be this song is all about being your self!!!!!!
Mujer hermosa❤
2023 y me sigue encantando está canción hecha con el corazón ❤️.
