In short, the episode would have been too long with the song included and they cut it to leave room for more commercial time, and Wikipedia cites three other cases where this happened in the Italian broadcast of Spongebob, with one other song being completely removed and two being shortened but not deleted from the episode. One of these is from the very first episode of Spongebob, where he serves the Krabby Patties with "Lovin' in the Sunlight" (that one song by Tiny Tim, don't remember the title). Here's a funny story, like almost 7 years ago i went to México to celebrate the holidays with my cousins and there was a flea market near were they lived, so one time we decided to look around at the flea market and we found a small place that sold bootleg dvds and cds at small price of $5 (in dollars) for 10 movies or compilations of music, so we decied to get around the deal and we bought 10 dvds of our favorite cartoons at the time, when we came back we decided to put one of the dvds we bought in their dvd player, at the end of one of the christmas special of Spongebob there was a montage of NSW images so i was on a hurry to eject the dvd out of the dvd player and one of my cousins just laugh at what was happening, up until this day i still have that forbidden bootleg dvd of that compilation of episodes of spongebob, one of my most treasure pieces in my collection.
I know it sounds like someone who trying to make something like what they heard in a shonen jump anime and came pretty close but just didn’t quite make it
0:54 Translation: Meet the Griffins: Peter, the big, lovable goof who always says what’s on his mind. Lois, the loving mother who can’t figure out why her baby keeps trying to kill her. The daughter Meg, a true drama queen who’s constantly embarrassed by her family. Chris, the goofy 13-year-old who wouldn’t hurt a fly, unless if it landed on his hot dog. Stewie, the maniacal 1-year-old bent on world domination. Note: I don’t watch Family Guy, I just guessed this all on memes I’ve seen of the show and my knowledge of the English language and possible causes to things.
11:32 Actually, these ones are also from Brazil, not Portugal. And no, they're not official. They're 100% unlicensed bootleg traps. You see, the DiC Mario cartoons only aired here in Brazil in the late 80s and early 90s. These bootleg DVDs started appearing around 2010, and while they do have distribution info on their backs, it was done without permission from DiC, Nintendo or any company at all. Old cartoons like these normally get in copyright limbo here in Brazil because, when they're over, nobody really cares to secure the license for years to come. Ironically, the only 2 official Mario DVDs are the ones published by Video Brinquedo in 2006. These were officially approved by DiC and they even used the (at the time) brand new Shout Factory Boxsets as the source for the episodes. However, they were re-dubbed because of licesing issues with the old TV dub and other minor things. The bootleg DVDs use the original Brazilian dub from the 90s instead. Probably because they were directly recorded from when they aired on the TV way back them. DVD piracy is pretty common here and some of them are actually very well made and can misguide buyers into thinking they're official. They're even sold on high profile stores. (but normally at a VERY cheap price) You can find a lot of bootleg Popeye, Woody Woodpecker, Dungeons and Dragons DVDs here and they're all unlicensed and ripped straight from old TV archives.
There's an Irish dub of spongebob that still airs today. Its actually really well put together. A lot of nick shows got an Irish dub too, namely Avatar TLA, which is regarded as being the superior dub by people who grew up with it.
All of these dubs air on TG4, I can recall a horrid Henry dub as well, but the only time I saw that one was when I was staying in Bundoran, they must’ve had the channel on for GAA and never changed it back
@@kokonbini they’ve actually got a dedicated Cúla 4 channel separate from TG4, probably the most investment Irish language content has gotten, but original content is prioritised. Makes little difference to me tho, I’m from Co. Monaghan and have lived my whole life there, English is my only fluent language, I tried to get into Japanese and Swedish with duolingo, but I never got the hang of it
Fun fact: The SpongeBob Korean dub also has two special ending themes (which are total earworms, I recommend listening to them). This next one is a smaller fun fact, but usually when people who know about who I'm talking about hear this, they lose it. In the Japanese dub for the Truth or Square theme is most likely an uncredited role done by Daisuke Ono, the voice of Jyushimatsu Matsuno, Jotaro Kujo, and Silver the Hedgehog's JP voice, at least as of recent. I don't know much about Sonic or Jojo so that could probably be discredited. I can't seem to find a voice credit for it on IMDB but I'd have to assume it's him counting on how close it is to his Jyushimatsu voice and the sheer amount of voice roles he's had.
4:40 incorrect information, I'm a native Israeli and I can confirm that thumbs up means nothing in here. It's just a sign of approval or agreement, like the rest of the western world lol, in that specific case, Israel was not provided with the actual logo-less end screen, so they had to do some creative editing. Because back in the day, (and still sometimes today) all foreign text was localized to Hebrew text, to base the Hebrew language as much as possible to young viewers, and also, fun fact, for them to learn to read faster Hope you enjoyed this little piece of information!
@@thuongbuianhhedgefishsuppo7550 I said why. They weren't provided with the logo-less ending scene, so they had to improvise. And by that I mean freezing the frame just before the english logo shows up.

About Fairly OddParents - In Poland the show actually debuted on Disney Channel and was titled "Przygody Timmy’ego" what you can translate as "Adventures of Timmy" or something like that. It was even one of the first shows on the channel but from what I remember we had only like two seasons, even though we got it in 2006. The werid thing is that in 2007 it started emiting on a channel called "KidsCo" that nobody even really know existed, with the same title as Disney Channel version but with completly different voice cast, translations and sets of episodes. Why it wasn't airing on the Nickelodeon but on different channels? Nickelodeon was broadcast in Poland for few years in the late '90s (I remember it has shows like Angry Beavers, Rugrats, Aaahh!!! Real Monsters and completely different dub of CatDog than what we got later) but because of low ratings or something it was cancelled, and we havent seen him till 2008 when he returned as Nickelodeon Polska. For most of that time we didn't have a Polish versions of most of the Nicktoons with few exceptions like few episode of some older shows or some Nicktoons Movie on random TV stations, but in 2008 we finally got things like Danny Phantom, My Life as a Teenage Robot or even SpongeBob. Then in the 2009 Fairly OddParents started airing on Nickelodeon Polska with new title "Wróżkowie chrzestni" (with is much closer to the original title), voice cast from Disney Channel and completely different set of episodes than previous two releases. Disney Channel was still airing two seasons they have till 2014 when they dropped it completely, KidsCo was airing their few seasons (I don't really know how much they had) till 2013 when they were shut down, and Nickelodeon Polska is still airing it to this day. From what I remember Nickelodeon acctually dubbed over new episodes of the show (Like we got that Jimmy Neutron crosovers) but to this day I don't know if they ever realesed any Disney Channel episodes on thier channel or if they dub over KidsCo episodes.
"It was oddly popular in Japan, despite being a French-Canadian production" Bruh, Donkey Kong is a Japanese Nintendo IP and this was right on the heels of the DKC/Super Donkey Kong games' release. There's _no_ way it wasn't gonna be popular.
8:25 the main reasons Nintendo doesn't acknowledge that the Dic cartoons exist is likely because of how little Nintendo Japan had to do with the shows. It was mostly just Nintendo of America who helped get the shows off the ground. As far as my knowledge goes, all Nintendo Japan did was give NoA the go-ahead to go through with the creation of the shows. Because of this, Dic had full creative control, leading to many inaccuracies that Nintendo, rather than address these issues, just acts as if the shows don't exist. The same could be said for the Dic Sonic cartoons as well as the Zelda show and Captain N. It's just a theory though, so take it with a MOUNTAIN of salt. If I'm aware, this might also be why there has been very many Nintendo cartoons or movies since then. Likely one of the main reasons the Mario movie by Illumination is happening is because Miyamoto will be supervising the creation of the movie.
The Mario movie was good, but very light on story or character though. Nintendo and Sega should acknowledge that actually making a TV or film with story will demand creativity and changing and adapting lots of things that work on videogames.
Idk why i rewatched this video several times but just the fact that someone compiled details on this topic is really cool. this makes me want to look into foreign dubs of cartoons further but information is very spread out and not compiled from where i've looked. i would really appreciate a follow-up video to this one looking at more examples.
It kinda upsets me that both Nintendo and Sega don’t acknowledge Mario Bros Super Show & AoSTH. I would really love to see that MBSS game and have Scratch & Grounder (Dr. Robotnik’s minions from AoSTH) as villains in a Sonic game. Plus, I used to have a whole box set of AoSTH (now burned to bits due to our house fire) and season 2 of Sonic X (assumed to be burned since I lost it a very long time ago) and to this day my family still have a Spongebob dvd from 2002. Also, A Day with Spongebob turned out to be a fake. The creator confirmed it.
Yeah the video does not consider A day with Spongebob real, it just compares the Spongebob in Tehran movie to it due to the similarities, except this time it's real!
Honestly i feel like that's a good thing because if they did acknowledge those shows i have a feeling they would try to copyright strike all the YTPs that used those shows as a source especially some of the more dirtier ones and popular ones.
Well, the potted Piranha Plants did appearing in a several early Mario games and a few recent games and spin-offs, even Piranha Plant, a playable character in Ulimate uses a pot to move around in and Luigi's scare part of his personality seems to based of the cartoon and seems to be the inspiration for the green alt for Bowser in Mario Golf and Super Smash Bros for Nintendo 3DS & Wii U. At least, Mario managed to get references and things that were from the Super Mario Bros. Super Show. Even Luigi's Mansion 2 & 3 had The Toads shoes squeak whenever they walked, a possible nod to this and The Adventures of Super Mario Bros 3.
Seriously, though, Blaze the Cat is great not just for a Sonic character, but in general because regardless whether she’s female or male, she is very helpful with her pyrokinetic powers and badassness.
Nintendo seems like they never acknowledge the Super Show, but don’t forget that Toad’s voice and Luigi’s personally are directly borrowed from the show!
Fun fact: in the UK, some American kids shows shows on channels like Nick Jr, which were already in English, are redubbed using voice actors with British accents
Yep Like wow wow wubbzy which the Uk dub was lost media for a long time . Paw patrol has one too, and so does shimmer and shine . We don’t need uk dubs . They should’ve aired the original us versions
And also the Backyardigans and Super Why, for some reason, being on Nick Jr in the UK. What I don't get: Nick Jr rejected Super Why, but then they aired the UK dub in the UK.
4:47 I can confirm that that is definitely not the reason why the thumbs up are cut off in the Hebrew intro, as there is no problem with giving thumbs up in Israel. The only reason I can think of is that because they used the last frame where the English logo wasn't visible so they could replace it with the Hebrew one.
Facts time! -The Loud House doesn't seem to be getting a Japanese dub anytime soon, but it should since Nick Japan recently relaunched. -A lot of professional JP VAs also dubbed Western cartoons, and some of them are pretty mindblowing. Like, in the Japanese dub of Nickelodeon's Doug (the Disney series never made it to Japan), Doug is voiced by Makato Nozawa. (I wish I could italic that, but I can't. Similarly, in the JP dub of Adventure Time, Finn the Human is voiced by Romi Park. And my personal favorite, when The Amazing World of Gumball was dubbed into Japanese, Gumball and Darwin were dubbed by Junko Takeiuchi and Yumiko Kobayashi, respectively. Yup, you read all of that right. -CN in Greece went the same way as Nick Japan in 2013, leaving a lot of the new series undubbed. Coincedentally, 2013 was the same year we got Teen Titans Go, so CN Greece, when they saw that abysmal series, could've gone, "Screw this, we're outta here." -In China, Squidward is known as "Octopus Brother". Fitting as he was part of an Illuminati-esque cult in one episode. -Similar to Japan, in Latin America, Gumball was voiced by Isabel Martinon who voiced characters such as Mimi from Digimon, Ben Tennyson and... Dee Dee from Dexter's Lab? I hope you make a Part 2, PatMac!
I know you probably won’t read this, but there is a Japanese Spongebob DVD that is tweaked If I recall correctly, a DVD of the episode Dear Vikings edited Spongebob’s eyes to look cuter, as modern Japanese culture sees Spongebob as more of a cute character There’s probably a couple other Japanese Spongebob DVDs that have this edit

They actually have partial rights to it. The main reason they don't address it is that it's a legal minefield with its multiple uses of music and likenesses of real artists of the time, including official parody covers. The rights are such a mess that reissuing the show is a tremendous pain.
You’re so right about Italian opening themes, they’ve always been awesome, and are nearly always original songs, ever since anime became popular there in the 80s :)
As someone who likes watching videos related to geography and neat trivia, I’d love a sequel to this episode in particular! Also the unexpected music reccomendations are appreciated, the Mario Super Show Italian theme is also really cool; it’s no Do the Mario, but it has a really funky synth solo in the extended version. The lyrics are great too, describing Mario as “If he were any fatter, he’d be rounder than a window” and “full of vivacity”.
No idea how long it will take to be finished, and there will be a lot of copyright claims on it most likely, but the video I’ve been working on that should be released next is pretty heavily focused on these foreign songs/openings! Strange thing about the EU Sonic X intro, though as you said it was probably made for non-English speaking countries, for some reason we got it over here in the UK, also it’s the intro I grew up with so I almost burst with joy hearing it again.
Strange thing about that opening is you know how in the French dub the intro is a cover of the Japanese OP? Well yes but only for season 1. For some reason for season 2 they used the intro you mentioned
There's 2 Japanese dubs of My Little Pony Friendship is Magic (the main series) in Japan. One aired on TV Tokyo in the early 2010s that were dubs of the first two seasons and had original OPs and EDs. Ended production early for some reason. The other airs on Disney Channel (so no special OP or ED), has a new cast, and just started airing mid-late 2019. I'll probably make a video on international dubs eventually, if I have the courage of recording my literal child sounding voice (I'm 16 and my voice still sounds like crap)

Leave it to PatMac to dig up some stuff that even I wasn't aware of despite heavy interest in these various franchises. (Particularly that foreign SpongeBob film, the DK cereal commercial, and that BIZARRE DK interview.) Kudos to another super interesting, thorough vid. Random thought #1: I remember back in the early 2000s when Sonic X was first airing on US TV and I was keeping up with it week-by-week. One of my earliest experiences with the internet was actually seeing those same Japanese DVD covers and getting my first peek at future stories, including the SA1 and 2 arcs through them. Good times. Random thought #2: Absolutely the BEST part of the SpongeBob First 100 Episodes set was the inclusion of the You Wish version of Shanghied with all three endings plus Patchy segments. That was one of my personal media holy grails for THE LONGEST time (previously bought several DVDs with Shanghied hoping for the full experience) and the second I heard from someone on an animation forum that it was finally getting a release of some kind, that set went STRAIGHT on the old Christmas list.
24:19 It's not the instrumental being used. It's the actual song, with the Persian lyrics about Sonic the Hedgehog being sung over the English lyrics of the song, which is mentioned by PatMac as "Last Friday Night" by Katy Perry, and the tune was also used in the internet Minecraft song "Don't Mine at Night". They did not bother isolating the original lyrics.
I suppose this is as good a time as any to explain why the French version of Sonic X is the only one based on the Japanese version. The reason is because 4Kids when possible always tried to secure the international publication rights to shows not just the American ones meaning every other country had to get there license from 4Kids and as a result had to base it on there version in case of Sonic X was its French dubbing company simply faster in securing the French publication rights for Sonic X so that there could base there dub directly on the Japanese one. Same reason why series like Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh almost all over the world are based on the 4kids version rather than the original one because 4Kids by securing the international rights force there changes on them. This is also why 4Kids always edited out all text by the way this way was it an easier sell to dubbing companies from other countries.
Similarly, the German and French versions of _The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening_ are left uncensored... until it was rereleased on the Game Boy Color.

(but normally at a VERY cheap price)
You can find a lot of bootleg Popeye, Woody Woodpecker, Dungeons and Dragons DVDs here and they're all unlicensed and ripped straight from old TV archives.

There's an Irish dub of spongebob that still airs today. Its actually really well put together. A lot of nick shows got an Irish dub too, namely Avatar TLA, which is regarded as being the superior dub by people who grew up with it.
Squidward sounds exactly like the english squidward, patrick is not bad, mr krabs is great and spongebob sounds great. So your right.

I like them, the second one is kinda creepy though, not the song itself but the fact that a lot of faces in clothes are dancing in it.

I mean, if it was just the first two seasons, you guys dodged one hell of a bullet there.

And also the fact that Illumination is insanely popular in Japan and Nintendo wanted to capitalize on that
The Mario movie was good, but very light on story or character though.
Yo, we NEED a full DKC retrospective from you
This show is too legendary for it not to get a video
Scratch and grounder were included in eggmans mean bean machine so at least sega actually knows about The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog

The only reason I can think of is that because they used the last frame where the English logo wasn't visible so they could replace it with the Hebrew one.

Coincedentally, 2013 was the same year we got Teen Titans Go, so CN Greece, when they saw that abysmal series, could've gone, "Screw this, we're outta here."
-In China, Squidward is known as "Octopus Brother".

0:14 Ah yes, my favorite family movie, *Berserk: The Golden Age Arc III*
PatMac: *Uploads*
Me: *Clicks faster than the speed of light, opening a hole in time*
One of my favorite videos of yours! I just came back to rewatch it and I love it more than ever!
15:02
I like it when you added the 20th anniversary image on it. It really shows the occasion.
Donkey Kong: is known to kidnap ladies
Also Donkey Kong: Interviews a lady
Actually, the Donkey Kong who kidnaps ladies from the original arcade game and the Donkey Kong with the red tie are two separate characters. Cranky Kong is the original DK.
I never thought I needed to see a French DK wearing a Suit dancing to a weird 90's song
17:17 that logo, I believe is also used in the GBA double pack of supersponge and revenge of the Flying Dutchman
HI TEMPO AVATAR
I believe it was used in Employee of the Month as well

11:57 I decided translating the Back of the Mario Dvd...
" *DIRECT FROM VIDEOGAMES TO YOUR DVD* "
" Now you can watch the adventures of *Mario And Luigi* ,The most popular video game heroes, fighting many enemies such as the Evil King *Koopa* .Watch it and have a lot of fun!"
Also this Dvd is a Brazilian release.
How i know?
1- I had it as kid.
2 - Down in the Back Cover you can see the symbol of the "Zona Franca de Manaus" which its a Brazilian seal to indentify products made in Manaus where most of the Factorys in Brazil are and many Brazilian products are made (such as this -Crappy- Dvd)
By the Way ,This Dvd has "Super Mario World" Episodes. The Volume 2 however, have "Super Mario Bros 3" Episodes.
But most of the Mario Dvds were released by Video-Brinquedo.I have some of them at my house. They also released Sonic-X in DVD,the opening was changed and they put the European theme instead of "Gotta go Fast" (This songs plays at the Menu). It's a pretty good release.I wish i could send you some of those weird Dvds.I also have a Sonic X VCD (VideoCD) my grandpa bought in Lebanon. However the episodes are curiously in English with Spanish Subtitles (With a lot of Translation mistakes).Maybe i post it in my Channel. Great Video! Bye!
bro we NEED a video literally just explaining all of the spongebob bootlegs and lost media in one giant episode. it NEEDS to happen.
12:55 In this picture it looks like Mario is kidnapping a little girl.

0:50 "Looks midly decent"
Lois is half naked. What are you into, PatMac?
I just noticed!
Everyone in USA: *knows who spongebob is*
Over in Bangladesh: *what the heck is a spongebob*
The French version was not the only version that was based on the Japanese version
@@Jaysterrr True at the time of writing this commend didn't I know that a few Asian countries did get adaptions of the Japanese version which is why I didn't mentioned them.

1:14 Hey Lois remember the time I was in PatMac video? Hehehe
Hey, Lois! We live in a society! Friggin' SWEET, Lois!
Hey Lois! We're on a bootleg DVD! Friggin' sweet!

Hey Louis! You appeared in a Bootleg DVD cover without your pants Louis!
As soon as I heard "Czech Republic" I knew those Sonic X covers with Blaze the Cat are going to be brought up.
They were basically released in cardboard sleeves to be sold as cheap DVDs for, like, $2 each. Bet you'd spend more on shipping if you wanted to import those than the DVDs themselves.
I'm a little ashamed of the Czech Republic now, you all think we have some of the worst DVD covers.
not gonna lie, I was little disappointed to discover that Blaze was never in Sonic X, talk about false advertising. Well at least the Czech Spiderman dvd's looked decent with an actual background, I believe it was te 90's animated series
One of my favorite random factoids about foreign releases, is a lot of European Fairly Odd Parents DVDs and Games edit Timmy's outfit to change the pink to a dark maroon.
One could only speculate why.
PatMac’s videos are like Christmas they take time but when they come it’s amazing!
19:55 that was the cover of a book that I had as a kid for the LeapFrog Tag
We got that weird "Sonic X" repeat opening in Australia for TV airing but the "Gotta go fast" opening for DVD releases
He forgot to talk about the greek dvd art style of sonic x its not weird but It has a lot of characters on the front of the box

The Mario DVD at 11:36 is pretty common in Brazil, so it might be from here, since we also speak portuguese.
I also found one of the Sonic SatAM one you showed after that.
And I also have the exact Video Brinquedo one that you showed. Cool.
it has the "Made in Manaus" thing also
Babytv shows remind of video brinquedo
I'm from the UK and basically everything we got here was identical to the US besides occasional differences in censorship, though a lot of our shows were changed for your versions (chopsockey chooks, skatooney etc)
13:40 I got goosebumps down my entire body when he mentioned this and the picture showed😭. I've had that DVD since I was like, 6 years old, and the memories of watching those episodes over and over never gets old.
God I remember the persian dub DVDs when I was younger, most of them were pretty awful.
bootleg DVDs kinda died when streaming platforms and pirating websites became popular
but still some of the dubs (like the Sonic X intro) were pretty well done
if you ever needed help with translating those or getting some rare footages count me in
Yeah . I’ve seen a lot online ! I want a paw patrol one
The dubs and distribution of the Pokémon anime is a massive rabbit hole I'd love to see a video on sometime
I'd love to see this as well
the icelandic dub. we will never get the full opening song... or even ONE episode
13:07
That yellow one was just what the Scandinavian VHS tapes looked like. I own all 6 of them. The 6th being REALLY illusive.
Something annoying was how they all features a commercial for some Mario "Lego" from a company called "Byggis" but I swear that Mario brick set was non-existing. My mom would even call them up and they had no idea what she was talking about.
The dubs on this set were pretty solid though.
I also own one of those cheap Mario DVDs that were sold in stores with the off-model design.
The box simply says "Super Mario Bros Vol. 1-4"
On the info, it says "The Super Mario Bros Super Show"
BUT the content on the DVDs are actually of "The Adventures of Super Mario Bros 3" @_@
And no joke, the only logo I can see on this box is one called "Mis.Label" I guess they got that part right.
I've never heard of that mario set

Me: The SpongeBob Heros
Anyway fun fact: The Donkey Kong Country cartoon was bought by an Italian network, entirely dubbed... but never aired.
Why not?

@@MickyMr95that's stupid. Donkey Kong is great!

@@Luna312ful without looking to much into it I feel it might have been a licensing issue that prevented it from being released. Stuff like that happens from time to time with other projects too like Nata Dreamland in Japan originally being a Disney theme park before that fell through.
I remember waiting for years for the 3rd season of Ed Edd n Eddy coming out on DvD, but for whatever reason they never released them in the US, just in Iraq.
EDIT: Okay, it was probably one of those unofficial, bootleg releases, but they were on Amazon for some reason.
Lois: Peter were my keys

16:34 Damn, that's the first time that I see Spongebob's intro with the text translated. Here in Paraguay we get the Latin american Spanish dub and it simply shows the English text. That clip is probably from European Spanish dub lol
