Was at this show with my girlfriend (now wife), some of her friends, and my best friend from high school (still best). I moved to Colorado the next morning, so couldn’t see the last show. I’m still bummed about that.
I remember playing that old Tele John is playing at his old house in Oxford. Someone routed out the the body behind the bridge and added a Bigsby from what I remember was an old Gibson. What a great guitar.
Finest band that ever strode the Earth. Whilst it's such a great shame it all ended so quickly there is also the maxim of 'quit while you're ahead', and god forbid they might have ended up like the Rolling Stones.
They are never getting back together. This is their final show and they cannot even look each other in the eye. There is serious tension here, which elevates into one bad ass live set.
Never happen. I don't think they like each other much. However, Farrar still does Uncle Tupelo songs when he's solo and with Son Volt. Anodyne is one of my favorite records of all time!
Just like old Dinosaur. The tension between J Mascis and Lou Barlow produced You’re Living all Over Me - Dinosaur was a massive influence on both of them
I found this band way too late. But playing their songs in a renegade alt country band was such a joy. To find Gold that was always right at my feet in my 40s was the best.
Jay seems super excited…🙄😂. It’s always weird seeing the attendance from these shows today given the monumental influence both Farrar & Tweedy had on their genre of music going forward.
Well if you didn't know this band was breaking up because the 2 leads were constantly fighting, you could guess it was the case just based on how miserable and unsmiling they are on that stage. At least Jay - I believe he's the singer on the left. And I have never seen a live band that didn't once communicate on stage verbally before. There is never a word between the 2 leads this entire show.
Excellent video and sound quality. I can really hear the difference between this and the '88 Victims Family show. You must have upgraded mics sometime between the two.
David DeGraw I don’t think anything ever came of those “talks”. I think it just had to do with some rights issues about some unreleased recordings. Not that that’s not interesting, but it doesn’t hint at any kind of a reconciliation.
mason miller Oh I really don’t see it that way at all. They were just on different paths. It was a great start for both of them but they’ve done much better separately then they would have together, long term.
great performance! but, i thought Uncle Tupelo was a 4 piece band? sorry, i am not that familiar with them. I only know a couple songs aside from the cover of Effigy that appears on the the legendary No Alternative compilation album.
They were a 3 piece for most of their career. But on the Anodyne album and tour they added a new drummer and Max Johnston on pedal steel and violin and John Stiratt on bass and guitar
Even in the three-piece days, it wasn't unusual for them to bring up extra musicians on stage--for a while there, Brian Henneman from the Bottle Rockets was a regular during encores...
@@sacramentomusicarchive I came to them late and never saw them live. I am a huge Son Volt fan and Farrar fan. Seen him/them over a dozen times. I'm not a big Wilco fan, but love Tweedy's voice. I do love their release Sky Blue Sky, but probably because it sounds like Uncle Tupelo. Farrar stayed closer to the Uncle Tupelo sound, which I prefer. Point being I did not even see Tweedy until he was chunky. I never knew he was thin like this!!!!
@@toadjam1408 I will check it out. Thank you. I may have a burned copy from a friend. I'll look for it. I followed Farrar, who I love and have seen solo and with Son Volt a multitude of times. I saw Tweedy solo at Hardly, Strictly Bluegrass a bunch of years ago.....not as compelling as Farrar to me. I do have Wilco release with Sky Blue Sky, which I LOVE!!
Seen the Truckers a few times, but they’re no Uncle Tupelo. Sure wish I woulda seen these midwest homies when I coulda. Boy they sure fell outta love. At least they never came to fisticuffs on stage…, BJM 2023 stylie. Love UT so much…especially the Jeff songs but really all of it. But I don’t like Wilco but I do like Son Volt. No Depression is in my Top 5 First Album Masterpiece category. Wilco seems like My Morning Jacket to me…a band I figure I’m supposed to like, but never connect with.
Not much has changed in the last 30 years in that regard. Love Jay's music but his "I really don't want to be here" vibe takes away from the performances.
I hear you on that!!!! I also came to find out others already posted my shite!! and get 100k views what a sham !! I subbed to your channel my brother! I hope you join mine

Man this band loved some Doug Sahm, but honestly, who doesn't?
Their version of Effigy is so good.
My university days were filled with Uncle Tupelo, Jayhawks, Sloan music, just the best.
cried all thru this. what a special special band. so much weight there when jeff and jay are harmonizing...
This is so great! I'm convinced they were going to be the next great American Band. Talent is too hard to ignore
Son Volt is great and amazing live. Go see them!
They are, and so is wilco, and to a little lesser extent, son volt.
Mississippi Nights was the best venue, hands down
All was not lost They became the next two great American Bands.
They were so amazing at the end. I love these guys so much.
Was at this show with my girlfriend (now wife), some of her friends, and my best friend from high school (still best). I moved to Colorado the next morning, so couldn’t see the last show. I’m still bummed about that.
They really were incredible live. All of the songs sound right off the album, especially Jay's voice.

great drumming....
Wow. Just........ Wow.
These guys will never reconcile. But I sure wish they would.
Every Son Volt records is outstanding. Some Wilco's are great, others, meh
They are never getting back together. This is their final show and they cannot even look each other in the eye. There is serious tension here, which elevates into one bad ass live set.
Fabulous clear audio. thank you.
Thank you very much for immortalizing this event. Those guys they were fantastic in their time!
1:00:36 Chickamagua. My favourite.
AMEN! And EFFIGY!!! Wow!
I was at this show... :)...band was pretty "tense", next night as well...
Me too
OMG ... how I long for the simplicity of the mid 90s.
@@Music_Head "abbreviation" not "acronym".
Wow! Thanks so much for posting this.
thank you for putting this up.. any new music could take a lesson
Thanks so much for posting this.
The tension onstage here makes Jay’s Anodyne lyrics much more powerful
So this would have been second to last show. Pretty sure I have a boot of this somewhere, but I've never seen the video. Thanks for posting!
Yeah the last show is up on youtube also. It was the night after this one.
Thanks for posting! Never got to see them live. If only a reunion tour...

God I miss these guys.
This is so good! I appreciate you posting it!
Proof that tension can create the most amazing music
Just like old Dinosaur. The tension between J Mascis and Lou Barlow produced You’re Living all Over Me - Dinosaur was a massive influence on both of them
Two of my all time favorites! Love J and Jay. They've shaped so much of my musical taste since my early teens.
That cover of Little Feat's "Willin'" is pretty great.
Great quality (and content)!
Who's still hanging onto a sliver of hope for a reunion show?
Yeah smallest of sliver but yes nonetheless I'd go miles for that!
Never happen

Wild. I was at this show too. Thanks for sharing this.
Thank you.
New Madrid into Sandusky....damn
And ... powerful slow burn ending courtesy of CCR's Effigy. Absolutely brilliant. Still love UT to pieces and sorry they split.
"Cya later, thanks".....and that was it!
What a fabulous little band. Also, I find I just cannot get into Wilco and keep returning to UT.
What about Son Volt? They're fairly close to Tupelo
@@michaelgraham9774 Some I like, some not. To me these two guys in UT had the right mix to make magic. Individually, not so much.
This was there farewell tour I think before breaking up but really all that happen was Farrar left and the rest of them formed Wilco lol

oh man, Sandusky, feels like I was there.
actually, David willis. I just read an interview with Jay and he said they are talking again. .
Heh. "Talking".
Jay: "Do you still have my Gibson ES-335?"
Jeff: "Yep."
David DeGraw I don’t think anything ever came of those “talks”. I think it just had to do with some rights issues about some unreleased recordings. Not that that’s not interesting, but it doesn’t hint at any kind of a reconciliation.
So do have videos from following Pavement around?
No, only dat soundboards
These guys could have been the McCartney/ Lennon of the 90's. Too bad egos had to get in the way.
They sound SO GOOD together!!!!!
mason miller Oh I really don’t see it that way at all. They were just on different paths. It was a great start for both of them but they’ve done much better separately then they would have together, long term.
Diane Kyrus definitely the case for Tweedy (one of the great modern rock icons of our time) not so much for Jay ...
Hard to believe everyone on this stage - and in this audience - is 29 years older today. Yikes.
Love uncle tupelo son volt wilco sebadoh
Any Jeff tweedy reader's?
Just finished Let's Go (So We Can Get Back). It was a pretty easy read but I really enjoyed it.
Super!
This is a great show.. But I can't stop thinking about Jay Farrar's playing and even singing style: Neil Young much?
Forgot Sandusky was in this set.
great performance!

Just read your write up - yes - this wonderful band split in '94. Such a shame. I really do greatly prefer them to Wilco.

Banjo sounds terrible. But a great show other than that
Jay looks miserable
Ryan Martin when doesn’t he. It’s called personality. :)
He's naturally stoic
Jay was cool. Too bad he’s not anymore.
He’s always seemed a tad on the dour side, hasn’t he.
