I LOVE THIS. Please do more of this. It's really amazing to see what contributes to that specific sound knowing how John experiments with amps and pedals. Hearing the nuances from each solo and how differently he uses effects (like when he stacks delays) with your thoughts and insights is making me excited for this series.
YES! This series is literally what ive been waiting for since a few months ago :DDD its such a fun thing to know and learn whats behind each different solo cos they all got a different feeling
This is so cool! You should do a video on how a song's solo has evolved over the years in gear.. this song has indeed moved a little (In 2022 he started using chorus, etc).
Nice video. Thanks. Would always appreciate a quick minimal rundown of the whole board for those of us who are less familiar with all the pedals, though I'm getting better. I'm chasing John's version of Jerry tone using a Dead Spec, it all helps. The other day I did a deep dive reboot, starting with your Sphere video - highly recommended - plus pictures I found on the net. I certainly don't have all the pedals, but I have klones or variants of most. And I often don't understand the actual connected order. It's a moving target since John and Jerry are always experimenting. Tonight I dug out my Boss Chorus - I never really used chorus - and hooked it up in the effects loop right before the Flint on the way out the door. (I don't have a Slide Rig but I have been experimenting with compressor placement in the gain stages.) To my surprise using the Chorus plus the Flint's Tremolo and a Tape Echo before right before both - I saw John used both a Carbon Copy along with his Aqua Puss - and adjusting the mixes of all three was a game changer. No idea why or if I'm right. The mix idea came from a video by a Nashville session player on pro tone. He said you can add delay and reverb (why not chorus?) at levels above what you'd think necessary or even listenable. Then mix them down so you can't hear the extra feedback, repeats etc. It provides a kind of bed for the tone. Thanks again for being a tour guide for us tone-chasers.
I get you don’t want to do too many “helpless” videos at once but you are going to have to do one of the videos on John’s performance of helpless at the Bud Light venue eventually

I'm particularly interested in his stacking delays. Nice point.

2019 tour is also my favorite, John started the show with Helpless and that turned out to be my favorite version of the song.
Please continue with the series. It's the sound we crave, it's the Mayer we love, it's the gear we envy. Can't wait for more solos

John gets his tone from lower gain and either a dumble or older fender tube amp. I love John mayor!
Awesome video, this series is going to be fire🔥
yea! keep doing this please!!
Id love to see you do a vid on the ain’t no sunshine solo ❤

The Covered in Rain forum solo with the 64 Strat should be studied. That solo tone is otherworldly. Would make for a good episode!
It’s one I have already got ready 🤫 great minds!
Cool! I was at this show.
This is real noice bro

Could you do this and replicate it with your own equipment?
