When I watch UA-cam for cards stuff I wanna see cool cards people are opening which then gives me the itch to head over to EBay to look at more cards. I don’t look for. Videos that just want to talk drama in the hobby or trashing others content but there is plenty who want to watch that. I look to see what people like and why they choose to collect that which is a factor for why I like watching SCD
yeah i agree u doing one video daily kinda makes it impossible for alot of people to watch it every day.. less can be more… i’m looking to start a utube sports card channel… my thought is one video a week… i’m not doing it for profit tho.. just to have fun with it…..
If you wouldn't obsess over Geoff Wilson, you wouldn't have as much content and wouldn't put out a video per day. Then maybe the UA-cam algorithm would be better for you. Your channel would grow... and we wouldn't hear about Geoff Wilson. It's definitely a win-win scenario.
Sports Card Dad, rise. You must battle Geoffy Poo for command of the empire. Oh Cabana boy, fetch me a Gatorade for Sports Card Dad to prepare for his battle.
You get what you click on. I haven't seen a Geoff Wilson video pop up in literally years on my feed. I get you, Sports Card Collector Investor, Jabs, then usually some random small breakers....no Geoff.
SCI is comfort food for card people. Its generaliy inoffensive, consistent and all- encompassing. And no matter what some comment trolls pretend to think of him, Geoff is likeable. Hobby stalwarts may not learn much from SCI, but its easy to watch. And T-Pott is a very good ying to Geoff's yang.
Anyone can do what Geoff has done if they have resources to start and the right blueprint plan in place to execute on. Its not difficult , the hardest part is acquiring the resources to start 100% and then finding the right people to team up with or hire in order to succeed. But if you have money to start , finding the right people isnt to hard as money talks and bullshit walks. When your already established its easy to blow up within an industry, especially if your passionate about it, as you don't carry the extreme stress that comes with being a broke start up boot strapping it with the bonus of also loving what you do. Sure, there is stress, but if you've ever done therapy and understand psychology, stress has various levels and if you have money to pursue something you don't feel the same wait as being broke trying to make ends meet attempting to build a company to provide for yourself and loved ones. When loved ones are secure and you have resources to use without worry, skys the limit.
Geoff has put up great content that most sports cards youtubers have failed to do or hasn’t done as well as he has through the years. He interviews people that are relevant to the hobby, he provides content of all the big card shows, his videos show him make big trades and how he negotiates trades, etc etc…which I think most people in the hobby are intrigued with and thus watch his UA-cam channel. Can’t hate on the guy he does put in the work.
@@boombaman31 Change the last word in your comment to “money” and I will agree with you. He doesn’t put in the work. He puts in the money……work is 40-50 years of collecting little by little, inch by inch, almost like a slow drip from a faucet. Dude has been in the hobby since the Dam Panic and he hasn’t even started work.
@ I do agree with you, he does have the money to do what he does…but it’s hard to argue that even though he hasn’t been doing this for decades, for the past several years he has done the “work” to get to where he is today with his channel. Also, he put in the “work” prior to the channel to accumulate the money he has now to do all of this…unless he inherited the money from his parents or something. That I do not know.
The more I watch of Geoff Wilson, the more corporate he seems. That's fine just as long as you understand that he's running a business and not necessarily in it for the hobby. I think he makes questionable decisions that affect collectors like selling a 12 year old 2 $1,000 boxes and trading 2 1933 Goudey Ruths and a 51 Bowman Mantle for a Steph Curry. He doesn't know anything about vintage or the players and that was evident with the 1967 and 1980 Topps videos and frankly he made a fool out of himself because he didn't do any research.
Frank all over the effects today - how did you wake him up? Next thing ALF will start chiming in. I rarely watch a Sports Card Investor video - if I catch him with a legendary collector or interviewing someone like Nat Turner I will watch. Probably watch less than 5 of his videos a year - watch you multiple times a week.
I've only been collecting for about 3-4 months. I thought Geoff Wilson was the current king of knowledge on sports card, but then I started hearing some negatives. Things like, "He's the biggest clown in sports cards.", "His advice on investing is always wrong." or "His recommendations only benefit him in some way". Now I have no idea if any of that this true, but...
No idea if it's true? You have eyes and ears. Aside from his deleted content, you can clearly see he knows very little about cards, but that's ok if is honest about it. But he lies and shows he has no clue. I've always said he could be even bigger in the hobby had he taken a different route.
Your best bet when looking at a card channel is sort videos by oldest. Most of these guys are noobs just like you, who have only been in the hobby for a few years and dont know any better than you do. The people with real knowledge are the guys who's library goes beyond the last 4 or 5 years.
Yeah, but just because Willson spends more money doesn’t mean his channels better I used to watch it but I don’t watch it that much now because it’s out of touch him and his son break a box of national treasures or ultimate that’s just not most of the hobby we don’t have money like that
I like to use the McDonald's VS a mom and pop burger spot.
