Feels like a bit of the story is missing as to where the up front money came from. As for how he went from nothing special to his current collection, he got lucky. Bought before the boom then sold during the boom. Great advice, hard for anyone else to follow now.
You can bet he had a whole lot more money to start his collection with than almost anyone watching. That fact alone make the advice he’s giving negligible
You can start a low end collection and slowly build it up the same way. It also takes some luck investing in a guy for a couple bucks that turns into a few hundred dollar card.
Agree there is something missing. The stuff he’s mentioning as a good flip are pretty average. I could name better examples myself and I don’t have a multi million collection.
Geoff, the base subscription to Market Movers should allow for more than 25 cards in the collection tab. Help us out this holiday season and expand it a bit
Great advice to not get too caught up in chasing the trends, listen to yourself when you first see a card and know if you like it someone else should too
Patrick brings up a great point about Star company basketball cards! True rookie cards are pretty darn cheap for Barkley, Olajuwon, Stockton, Ewing, Drexler, Isiah Thomas, Dominique Wilkins, etc. Half of the Dream Team have Star rookies that pre-date 1986 Fleer
Love these guys or hate them: they offer interesting options for buying and selling. A lot of life is luck. The gold jewelry I bought my wife 20 years ago has quadrupled in value.
Card people don’t trust CGC card grading, and I have been in the comic world since I was a kid and the comic people have already said they won’t trust PSA grading for long time and see how things go. CGC reigns in comics and magazines, PSA will have no impact on the value of that market.
all great collections happen over time, with money and effort invested. doesnt matter where the startup came from, dude said hes an investor by trade so pivoting to sportscards is a no brainer. plenty of good advice in this video
Geoff could you do an episode showing the differences of parallels and varieties? Like glossy, s.prints, refractors, foils, p.plates, holograms, prizms, artist proofs, and such. I don't know the differences and wish I could see the differences. I think a lot of collectors likee who jave started collecting again would appreciate it. (I'm 53)
@ figured I would pick some interesting tips up as that’s the title of the video but all I heard was I nut and collected before everything boomed and then I sold stuff 😂. Didn’t we all make money on whatever we had
Geoff " You didn't just start writing a bunch of checks! " Literally started by just writing checks- Geoff. Also guy avoids the flipping question and growing value. He has money from before, just be honest. I like to trade thousands 10's 100's etc of dollars of smaller stuff at a time for a big one LOL no mention of how he got smaller stuff. This isnt advice its lying.
Its not... Hes talking about trading up. We see this happen in a lot of different collectibles markets. I've seen people get rich from trading video game items and flipping them and trading up a bunch of small items for a bigger and rarer one that went 10x the next year etc.
@byafos Its not addressing the actual start of the smaller stuff. Don't tell me this started by using his childhood 50 cent card collection. Turned into dollar stuff 10 100 and so on. Be honest...Geoff I have money, I bought dozens of smaller but not cheap stuff. Now for years have been liquidating that stuff into bigger pieces. And if I am wrong and this man was poor and had 50 cent cards and turned them into that room/collection I'd love his next interview to explain. My guess is we will never get that story unless he was interviewing Dan Blizerian and we all know what b.s. that was.
get to know the cards your collecting.. I know dumb stuff about 90's cards that still make me plenty cash. I won't touch ultra modern because it's a game I can't win. Knowledge is power
Mentioned that his son bought Kabooms at the sports card show to flip them to another dealer. This dealer was aware of him buying and flipping the Kaboom cards. I have a stupid question why didn’t the dealer just buy the cards from the original source? No legs?
Because the dealer doesn’t care where the cards came from. He has a vendor tables and is stationary at the show… The kid was running around the biggest event of the year and even had his own Card Kids buying station. Dealer pays strong and has the good stuff come to him. I’m sure the dealer does buy all the Kabooms/Downtowns that walk up to his table, but he’s also aware the Geoff’s son is a popular kid and it’s smart to work with someone with big cards and the popularity to acquire more big cards.
Yea I will say Geoff wasn't being exactly honest about how his son made that kind of money. I watched some of those vids and that vendor paying his son all that money was just doing it for advertisement.

Why does that matter? 😂
@@hardcourthofit matters as that's what eh is whole video is about lol. What are you on about

yeah, that's ridiculous...also after spending the money for the year I've found out that so many cards I look for aren't in their collection.
the price data isnt accurate
Great advice to not get too caught up in chasing the trends, listen to yourself when you first see a card and know if you like it someone else should too
Great interview. Solid information. 😊
Awesome interview, more of these videos would be great!!!!

Grow your collection by buying now the cheapest prices of every year is around Christmas time
Great advice. Thanks for this video.
Please update for more cards in your app. I expected all my cards to show up after buying the subscription
When is market movers going to update so we can see what arena club cards are selling for
I had a feeling about those home field advantages too just never really pulled the trigger. Been kinda iffy on it but might snag a few.
Great story.
Can't believe all this knowledge is free. You guys are awesome.

Love this guy
Would you sell your house at 95% comp?

All you got to do is Google it. Tons of stuff .
I’ve been burned many times buying way below comps
This guy has no clue what he is doing literally just bought early before the boom
Saya some random guy on the internet watching a video about someone's collection
@ figured I would pick some interesting tips up as that’s the title of the video but all I heard was I nut and collected before everything boomed and then I sold stuff 😂. Didn’t we all make money on whatever we had
He didn't get rich going all in on Desmond Ridder?

The guy literally said how he got a bunch of his cards... be an adult and listen for once.
Lies you need $$$$ to start flipping bottom line
This guy pick all winners. How come I keep getting losers?
There is no money making for any collector who bought sports cards after 2020. You would probably have a better return buying a book of scratch offs.
Two grown men who don’t know the definition of the word thesis
Bid on eBay?! Dude you're bidding against yourself. People will find that comp and offer you 80% lol you'll never make that money back
Not if it’s rare

I just bought a card on ebay from auction for $5 and sold it for $25 at my LCS. Think before you say dumb stuff like that bud.
