  • Are you looking to update your furniture or home decor in an easy and budget friendly way? Contact paper is an awesome solution! Contact paper is a nifty little material which has an adhesive on the back and there are so many ways you can use it.
My ancient filing cabinet doubles as a side table in my living room (I'm all for maximizing storage / giving my furniture multiple uses) and tbh I was so tired of looking at it. It was dinged up and I was not a fan of the black color, it made the space feel darker and boring which is sooooo not me.
Instead of replacing it, I decided to give it a makeover using contact paper. There are so many great uses for contact paper. Not only is it affordable AF (the roll I used was $12 and covered 2 different pieces of furniture) and comes in a variety of patterns and designs to fit your decor scheme.
Gone are the days of simply using contact paper for a shelf liner. I've seen contact paper used not just for furniture makeovers, but also for countertop/table makeovers, covering cans to make cute storage or planters, and I've even it used as wallpaper. The adhesive on contact paper is gentle enough that you can reposition it if you place it wrong and it also leaves zero residue making it a great option for renters as well.
The roll I use in this video is a wood print which came in a 12' roll. After doing this project I even had enough leftover to cover the black cube shelf unit seen in this video too. Both of them turned out amazing and my living room looks so much cleaner and brighter!
You only need a few materials for this project and the cleanup is so easy.
Materials needed including links to the supplies:
    - A roll of contact paper (make sure you check the length before you buy to make sure its long enough to fully cover your project) - amzn.to/2UIxqK5
    - Cleaning supplies to clean your surface before sticking the paper (I used paper towels and LA Awesome spray) - amzn.to/3zFIkii
    - Scissors for cutting the paper - amzn.to/374KNa2
    - A utility blade (not completely necessary but it did help me in trimming more precise spots like around the keyhole) - amzn.to/3BLJ9be
    - A credit card or ID...something like that to smooth the paper while you place it which makes it stick better and prevents bubbles and wrinkles
I also forgot to mention in the video that the back of the contact paper comes printed with a grid which helps a lot in cutting straight lines and knowing where to measure and fit the paper before you cut it. So if you're new to using contact paper it is a really user friendly, affordable, and fun option.
If you try this out I would LOVE to see what you makeover with contact paper! Tag me on IG so I can see your creation and share it with my followers.
