I went to BGW as a kid, probably within a year or two of when it opened. I loved it so much! They had England, France, Germany/ Octoberfest, and I think the Aquitaine. Definitely no Italy at that time. Not sure about Scotland or Ireland, but I think it was before Loch Ness Monster. They had a monorail around the whole park, and those aerial suspended cars as well I think. We saw a show in the Globe Theater in England, a hilarious puppet show and also a funny bird show in the Aquitaine, had an amazing dinner at Octoberfest. Lots of assorted carny type rides back then. Much later went to King’s Dominion on our senior trip. It was ok, but BGW is way better. Have you been to Knoebels in PA?
They're both great but I think BGW is better than BGT by a comfortable margin. Obviously the animal exhibits are better at Tampa and I think most people would say Iron Gwazi is the best ride between the two. But I think that in every other way BGW just delivers a more impressive and well rounded experience. Coasters: Close but BGW wins if you ask me Other rides: tie (BGW would win if Battle for Eire and DarKastle were still around) Theming: Both do well but BGW still wins Food: BGW wins easily Shows: BGW wins easily Shopping: BGW wins Atmosphere: Both do very well but BGW still easily wins Setting: BGW easily wins (gotta love the forests, the scenery and river) Park Entrance: BGW still wins Kids area(s): BGW totally dominates (much better spread out kiddie rides which is WAY better for parents) Animals: BGT clearly wins I'm not insulting BGT. It's great, one of my favorite parks. I just think it's kid sister in Virginia is just a masterpiece.
Pantheon is amazing. I went on it 11x during my two visits last October. So bummed you didnt get to experience it. Probably my favorite coaster in virginia!
Thats crazy you didnt find verbolten with no high forces. The inside is very dissoreinting with the tight turns and the last 3 turns after the big drop deffiently pull some strong foces imo, and intimidator 305 is my home ride lol
I305/Project 305 is the best coaster in Virginia by a long shot. 2nd is Twisted Timbers. 3rd is Pantheon. All of them are great! I’ve ridden them at various times of day and front, middle and back since I have season passes to both parks. One of the perks of living in Richmond. You are in between two great parks. I’m super excited for Kings Dominion’s new launched wing coaster already under construction! Another feather in the Virginia coaster cap.
Watching these BGW vids as I’m preparing for my first trip in over 25 years and taking my oldest for his birthday and can’t wait for all the new rides with him
I prefer BGW although it is my home park so i may be a little biased. I visited BGT durring my senior trip back when i lived in Florida, and thought it was a nice park. I dont know how BGT operates in the winter but it should be noted that BGW only recently became a year round park. Not too long ago, the park used to be closed in the winter, so alot of rides and attractions are closed for maintenance. The skyride is popular although i dont ride it because the people i go to the park with dont like things like cable cars and ferris wheels so im pretty sure it was just down for maintenance although i could be wrong, hopefully not. Griffon was down because the water breaks wouldn't work if the splashdown pool is frozen over which probably isnt an issue in south Florida. Loch Ness Monster is getting re tracked so it would probably eliminate some of the "jankiness" on what is considered an ACE landmark and one of the most iconic coasters in the world due to its interlocking loops. Your not really missing out by not riding Darkoaster. Its not bad, but its basically another family coaster and is more tame than Verbolten. Also, the lines get ridiculously long, and by that i mean 2+ hours. Pantheon is definitely worth the ride and you should try it if you are ever in the park again for the summer. It is right next to Intimidator 305 when it comes to intensity. i305 has more G forces and high speed turns, but pantheon throws you out of your seat on many occasions no matter how hard the ride op staples you in your seat. It has this little ejector hill on the main launch section that catches you by surprise durring the backward launch.
BGW has been my home park for 25 years and it’s amazing. So many good rides. Pantheon is awesome and verboten makes me grey out every single time during the helix!
I am glad that you got to visit again. I do hope that you can cone when they are fully open. The food at Festhaus is most excellent, but we prefer the Smokehouse in New France to even that. #RibSampler Both parks are equally fabulous though for different reasons. I am partial to Williamsburg because the ambiance is enhanced by each different season's lighting and foliage whereas the environs of Tampa are static. The Howl-o-scream event blows Tampa out of the water with the gloomy, overcast fall skies as a ceiling to the forests and spookhouses. Christmas town is complete with occasional snow flurries and the lights are in full effect, even during daytime hours under the darkened skies. You get the picture.
I honestly think the exact opposite about Apollo’s Chariot when it comes to airtime. I think you get AMAZING floater airtime with the first hills, and it has some ejector if you sit in the back on the first hill
My family has been going to Busch Gardens Williamsburg for years, even before I was born. I love this park and it will always have a special place in my heart. Although I do wish they didn't get rid of a childhood ride of mine, this park is better personally than my home park Six Flags Great Adventure
As someone who’s home park is BGW Pantheon is NEVER open. Currently ( a little over a year later) last time I went(in may) here’s all that was closed - Alpinegeist ( currently under construction) - griffin - pantheon -Tempesto And the flyer
I will say I live about 30 minutes away from busch Williamsburg, and it a hit or miss having a good day there. The work ethic is pretty good but its hard catching some of the best rides being open. Rids like apallo (I love btw) will always be open but pantheon in weird, but you won't regret coming back to ride panthion!!! Especially sitting in the back
This park is absolutely incredible. The ride collection is all bangers but beyond that it has so many things you don’t always notice but add to the experience. For one while the crews are hit or miss with all the b&ms and shows this park eats crowds for breakfast, I’ve had days where the lots were full and we waited an hour to park because the cars couldn’t drive in fast enough but once you hit the park I’ve never waited more than 1 hour for a ride. Plus the train ride due to being near full gauge frequent and visible from the park adds to the atmosphere.
My main reason for why I prefer Busch Gardens Tampa over Busch Gardens Williamsburg is because of the animal exhibits and because it has two rides that I prefer over everything at Busch Gardens Williamsburg (Cheetah Hunt and Iron Gwazi), although I haven't been to this one since 2013 so I have no idea if Pantheon will be better than those two or not. Even so, this is easily my second favorite theme park that I've personally been to as it combines theme and thrills a lot better than most American parks and it has some of the best rides of their kind that I've personally ridden such as Alpengeist and Griffon.
I live fairly close to this BG. Darkkoaster is cool but I will warn if you're over probably 6'2 it may be uncomfortable to ride. It has a height limit of 6'6 but even at 6'2 the way you are strapped in to the seats can put your legs in a very awkward position where I sometimes cramp in the middle of the ride and have to suffer in pain waiting for the end. I've ridden it 3 times and its happened to me twice the 1st time and the last time and I swore off the ride from that point. It can be though.
dude i was at bush gardens when u did this bc invador went down for a few min and grffion andanthion were closed when i went aswell so we were at the same tiime
This is a legitimate question: which park: Tampa or Williamsburg has less flying bugs? I went to both as a child, and they were great memories but, as much as I crave to visit, my flying bug phobia holds me back. I noticed what looked like a bee flying by the tracks and it prompted me to answer. I was lucky to go in rainy-ish weather.
Awesome breakdown video Eric! I can see both sides… BGW for the overall experience(theming, atmosphere, layout of the park, line-up) can be better than Tampa. Tampa for the better line-up(including Iron Gwazi, Montu, and Kumba, plus the animals aswell). My vote goes to BGW tho.
I think the general consensus is that BGW overall is better because of the theming and atmosphere. But BGT has the superior ride with iron gwazi that draws a lot of attention to it.
Verbolten has lost most of its show building theming (tho still $50M?!). Such a weird ride, moments sort of InvadR with more force, between brake runs and launches. Speaking of InvadR, what a front row ride, the air.
Ok so I had to comment on this since I live near the Williamsburg Park. Griffin is a clone of Shikra from Tampa, but pantheon is by far the greatest ride at the park. It’s kind of like Voss coaster in Orlando and being that I’ve been to both parks. Pantheon is by far the best coaster at either.
I think Tampa definitely has a better coaster collection. None of the coasters at BGW stand out, for me. BGT also has the advantage when it comes to all of the animals. BGW wins when it comes to theming, landscaping, food, shows, overall atmosphere, and operations. The more i ride it the more i like it. Its amazing.
Stating that BGW is top 3 park in beauty even when all the trees are barren says a lot. If you going the summer it’s breathtaking.
And even more so in the fall!
It is absolutely gorgeous during the summer… the foliage and atmosphere is my favorite attribute of the park.
It holds a piece of my heart.
Night rides on Apollo’s chariot is where the power is
A sunset ride on Apollo's Chariot during autumn leaves is one of my favorite memories
Busch Gardens Tampa is my home park and we are doing BGW and KD this summer I am so excited! I cannot wait!
KD is better mostly because it’s 40$ but Busch gardens is still good! Enjoy your visit

You really can't go wrong with either park.
I agree.
The rhine cruise is cool to have but I would love to see kayaking paddle boarding and pedal boats offered in the river.
