So many people think used pallet wood is junk. I have also built many thing out of recycled pallets, a shed to store firewood, a wooden walkway from our back porch to our pool, a fort/tree house for the kids and a few other things. The biggest being a 200 foot long picket fence around our front yard. My son and I spent almost every night of that summer dismantling, de-nailing, trying up and shaping the tops of well over 500 pickets we made out of pallets we got for free from a local factory. The only things we had to buy were the posts, the 2x4s to connect the posts, about 40 bags of post cement, the 3 inch screws to attach the pickets and gate hardware. If we bought the picket fencing in the 8 foot sections that a local lumber yard sold it in, I think just the fencing alone would have cost over $6000. If memory serves me correct, the whole project cost less than $400. It was also a great father/son project which was the best part of it.
Pallet wood makes great firewood too, I cut up loads during the year for firewood
I prepare used pallet wood sometimes to perfect wood and use is to make toys for kids.
@andyjones3257 yes! Make sure its clean wood though, treated pallets can have nasty chemical releases when burned
jack is the most important contributor at the construction site XD
You've got quite the "Camp Critter Suppression System" in place with Jack! You could put together a compilation video of Jack and I think it'd do rather well with your audience.
Great video! Your pops is sure a great worker! I have found the best mould remover, and environmentally safe, is to use a baking soda/ distilled vinegar cleanse. Working in one to two-foot sections at a time. Make a paste with baking soda with some water, I use an old nail brush to apply it in a circular motion and scrub it in there well. let it sit for about two to five minutes, depending on how bad the mould is. use the vinegar in a condiment bottle and drizzle it over the baking soda patch, scrubbing in a circular motion once again to activate the vinegar and baking soda, use an old toothbrush to get into the seams. Let that sit for a few minutes. Rinse with water, and wipe with a paper towel, use the toothbrush in the seams to remove any remaining paste the water did not remove. I wouldn't use any peroxide on the canvas because it would discolour it.
Saw ponies, that was hilarious. Jack sure keeps himself busy. Thanks for sharing your work with us.
Jax is a powerhouse! I don't know what he's doing, but he's very dedicated.
Pallets? Dad must be in heaven! I kept my wood for heating my home on pallets for 20 years
I remember my dad using bi-carb and white vinegar to clean the mould spots out of our old 4-person tent in the 80's. He'd use a shoe brush (not one with old polish on it) to rub the bi-carb into the weave, then pour the vinegar slowly while scrubbing as it foamed... I remember it working fantastically, as a kid I thought it was like mad science, but when I tried it in the early 2000's on a more modern tent it didn't work at all... So I dunno, maybe I missed a step, or the fabrics were too different, but it's cheap and nontoxic so it might be worth trying on a corner.
Jax was on a mission…man that dog was busy.
So nice to see you working with your dad. Lovely to see family stuff on youtube
Jaxx is an adorable, energetic, focused worker. I’m sure you and your dad greatly appreciate his assistance.
It's great to see more pallet wood building. I loved the old pallet wood cabin videos and watched the whole series several times!
I asked several times if He was gonna move the Pallet wood cabin to His new lot ??
I haven't caught up with you guys in ages, but i love the fact that 'TA Fishing' is still that active/physical! Long may he teach you some things, but vice versa i imagine as well! Obviously love the terriers input!
The “Dream Team” together and back at it , I’d like to say a big “Hello” all the way from NY,USA to the south coast of England. I’ve been big big fan of you and your father for over a decade!
god your dad is awesome!! Saw pony ^_^ That man is a treasure!
I love how your dad even uses the camp with your mother.
‼️👀Could you, or one of your friends build a “quick” survival shelter. Utilizing the Da Vinci bridge idea. Instead of the “micro cabin” layout everyone always uses. To see if it would save time?
There are quite a few critters that need standing dead timber, good to leave a few of them.
Very true! Wood ducks, squirrels, raccoons, woodpeckers, etc. They also support wildlife by being a good medium for growing mushrooms 🍄 😀 It is important to keep an eye out for widow makers and take care of those quickly.
Happy Holidays to you!
You might try treating the truck cover to ozone for an hour. Hotels use it to control mold odor because it kills mold.
There’s nothing better than seeing these three blokes working together. Much love from beautiful Southern Oregon!❤️🌲🐾
It's pure therapy messing around with wood, especially in broadleaf woodland👍 It's always great sharing your woodland experience, it's obviously highly addictive 😁
Happy to see the whole family enjoying the woodland
This gives me a great idea to build a cabin out of pallets.
Pallett wood is impregnated with all sorts of off gassing toxins and should NEVER be used to build an enclosed space !!
Google "is pallett wood toxic" !
back to the pallet wood..great ..that is how i started watching you and yer dad ..back in 2016.17 ..cheers lads ..thanks for sharing...
ykb over and out
It's still so good to see that even though you focus on bushcraft mostly you don't shy away from using old pallets for a bunch of your projects. I wish my dad was handy like this, it's great to see you lot working together outside like this including Jack, he looks like he's having a ball! 😄
Happy hollidays in advance!
WOO-HOO! Pallet wood. Graeham. Your woodland. Wonderful.
im so happy to see this video. youtube wasn't updating me on uploads
Realy been missing these videos. Keep up the good work on tgese excelent videos. You should do a video on different bushcraft foods, and what your favorite one is.
Great to see Jax living his best life there, not to mention you and your dad. Pleasing to hear that both your parents also enjoy spending some time in the woods, away from the Toob. All in all, a very sound investment!
Thanks for your conservationist approach to woodlands, Mike. Your videos are a joy to watch (sometimes making me envious - 😄). Treasure those times with your dad working together and sharing precious moments - doing things with my dad are some of my favorite memories. Best wishes!
Good morning from Syracuse NY brother and everyone else
Mike,
I don’t comment much but have watched most all of your videos and some of your dad’s. I have an off grid homestead in the mountain states and have a thought for you. The Ash trees still standing could be felled, cut in log lengths and stored since they are dead. This would provide lumber once sawn with a portable mill or Alaskan mill for future projects. I do that here on our small channel “Smoky Mountain Outpost.” It’s free and has built the whole homestead. Just a thought…..
Wishing you a Merry Christmas and New Year
Thanks for filming Mike. 😁👍🏼
Always great to see you and your dad (plus Jax) working on a project together. Good work on the wood dryer. Looks like you will need one larger before too long.
The knowledge pops has is priceless
Love hearing him tell us something we never knew existed and he always makes it make sense
The saw pony was awesome
Why is this the first time I’ve seen or heard of this
You should get some mushroom plugs and use some of the fallen trees to grow in
Great news, we have gotten some good snow here in east yorkshire 😂
I love pallet 😂😂 and i love to see you with your father, good family. 🌷
I'm a wood turner and was drooling at all the felled ash, especially the spalted stuff😅👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Oooh, a bit of spalted beech!👍😜
Always good to see your dad, he's a laugh a minute
Jax. The destroyer of worlds.
When will you do another video with the pallet wood cabin you built back in 2017? I found your channel from that series and I miss it. Would be a fun project to build an all new and improved pallet wood cabin in your woods there for some overnight stays.
I was inspired by your dad so have been saving up my pallets for a project. Going to build myself a new shed this weekend, wish me luck!
Glad you mentioned fixing the air flow. What my dad did for wood storage for his cabin was a 10x15 shed with no walls then used plastic tarps to seal off the primary wind.
At home a sheet of sheet metal nailed to a frame was merely laid atop his wood pile with a cinder block or two atop at each end to weigh it down
Love to see some TA outdoors charcoal produced from your woodland
Definitely something I will be doing next year!
@@TAOutdoors excellent look forward to seeing that
Great viewing. You own a lovely plot of woodland. Cherish it
good camp oven, I need to do the same here. nice to have the tiny stick wood but it is hard to stack it and have it stay put.
Great update Mike.
Proper Sunday viewing 👍🏻
I’ll be starting the winter maintenance at my place once I finish for Christmas.
All the best mate.
Cheers mate thanks for watching 👍🏻
Hi Mike, hi dad... LoL & jack. How about carving a throne in to the rest of the root of your oak tree?...
The b&q splitting axe is definitely the one for the money
Genuinley so good for the price!
B & Q Splitting axe? I must have missed that! What exactly is that?
Another great work with your dad Mike.
Glad to see your Dad! Its been a while.
Splitting wood is the best therapy there is outside of the hammer in the blacksmithy here, love to do both. It is great for getting stuff out of your system when you are feeling the need to do it. LOL.
Like the pallets fir a wood store, does look like a over night emergency shelter challenge to
Excellent idea with the pallets
Im building a cabin myself 😁
Glad to see you and your dad 😊
Your Dad is such fun to have around. He reminds me so much of my dad with his corney dad humor.
Jax ♥♥♥♥♥, treats and tummy rubs.
Love what you and your Dad do!!!😊🎉❤
Thinking of your day needed two nails found three bent one's grabbed pliers plus end grain chunk then ⚒️ all the best 🎉❤😊
Thank you for sharing 👍✨️🧚♂️🤟
Your dad is amazing. I wish i had a dad like yours.
So glad to see another build great video 👍👍
You should get some Birch sap and make syrup!!
Just watching to see Jaxx digging holes 😄
A wood store needs to be open so the wind can pass through. If you tighten a tarp around it it will still be moist and in the end rot. An old say is the the wood have to be stacked so loose that you can trow your hat through it. Keep on doing these videos I just love it // Micke / Sweden
Great video mate hoping we get some snow so you can get out in it!! Have a great December mate 🎉
If you could converse with a woodlouse it would tell you that NO wood is "too far gone"😂
Ehlow! You & Da busy as beavers!! 🦫🦫I hope you all have a lovely holidays with memories as warm as bisquits! Merry Christmas!!❄️🎁⛄🎄🎅🛷🦌🌲✨
Looking great! One tip on firewood stores: go higher and not quite so deep. Better air circulation, and easier on knees (not a consideration for you at this point, but in the future ...).
My Dude, I love your videos... You're great... Always looking for the next one... Thank You.
Great woodland update and it's wonderful to see you and your dad working on another palletwood project. ❤
Really good stuff and the pallet wood is back love it
You guys are awesome. I could, and do, watch your videos all day, but, Jax is my favorite!
Always such GREAT content, thank you!
looking forward to more hedging, tbh ... i find it so soothing and fulfilling
That man showed me how to cast from the beach with a conventional reel!!
Living the dream ❤
Love these woodland episodes! Just made a similar log store from pallets too.
Good to see Jax back in the wild and on the show.
Love your content, been a long standing subscriber from early ta fishing days.
As for the mould on canvas problem you mentioned, here's a method I've used many times but not on such a large scale as your needs, but size shouldn't be an issue it should still work the same. Completely soak the canvas in kitchen side antibacterial wipe spray and let the canvas dry then just wash it, totally kills the mould. Mite be worth a try.
Given me some ideas. What was the hand saw you were using? Silky?? 👍
Love this channel 😊so many great ideas and a true inspiration!
Have you ever made a teepee? Would love to see one?
Nice video
look into getting old scaffolding boards they are very good and have end date for scaffolding use and lot get burn to gid rid of them
I just fell a huge non bearing plum tree on my property this past summer & let me tell you that wood is some hard stuff . I cut every bit of what I can use for fire wood up & stacked it off the ground & by next winter I can use it . I usually buy cords of hard wood for the winter but next year I won’t have to . I use about 4 pieces of thick wood a night , I,ll start a fire around 6:00 pm at night it burns till around 10:00pm & turn on the blower for my fireplace , then I,ll turn off the heat in the house & that’s keeps the whole house warm over night & before I leave to head out to my workshop in the morning i,ll turn the heat back on that saves me on a big bill for my electric ever winter .
Great stuff guys thanks
Keep going, you rock 🔥🤘🍻💯
Mike surgical with that axe!
GREAT IDEA
Was going to build from pallets myself, but decided to go with ibc tank cages instead. £25 for one, loads of room to store, all galv including base. Easy...
'sing oak and ash and thorn good sirs, all on a mid summers morn
surely we'll sing of no little thing in oak and ash and thorn.' the longest johns do a great version of this song
Thanks Mike! 🔪🎸
enjoyed the video, thanks 👍
For land rover canvas use astonish mould and mildew remover it will come up like new 😊
Liked, shared and commented
Mike, How is that New Smock you have on in this video? Is that the Helikon woodsman one?...any good?
I am no expert, but I've heard that pizza ovens you should use your dryest wood.
The damp wood means the oven will not get as hot for the foodie perfectionists.
But also can produce creosote from the cooler burning which could build up in the chimmney and affect flavour.
Might want to read up or wait for someone with more knowledge than me to comment :-)
You need airflow in your firewood storage pile. Covering it completely on all sides will hold the moister in and make it rot. Just FYI 😉
Nevermind, I was too quick. It's temporary. Didn't see that part of the video
cool vid
