    I work at a high school theater and I have to fit lots of different sized girls. We only have one dress form but we have loads of shoulder pads. This is an excellent solution! Since it's something that I have to do often, I'll probably add some Velcro to the backs of the pads so I can take them on and off of the form easily.

      Thread magazine has a article about making a dress form to fit multi people. It's basically a dress form skin tight dress with zip down back, that is padded out with batting for quilting, and then a second dress that fits that size sewn over it connected at the neckline and down both sides of the back to the zip edges. You make them for all the sizes you need and just zip the one you need over the form as needed. For theater this is much more practical.

    Nick, I loved the way that you addressed the sizing issue, a sensitive matter for most women. I especially liked how you brought up your mom’s size, ‘she is not a size four’, very tactfully, and of course, lovingly, you are a class act. Thanks for the video.

    Now I can use all those pads I had left over from the 80’s.

  • @D.C.22
    @D.C.22 5 років тому +84

    I would probably do a combo of the pads..and batting. All those areas between the pads needs to be filled in. Plus--he mentions nothing about how to cover the form for easier draping once you've sized it. Using a leotard is always great. You just have to cut open the crotch if it's not a snap closure.

    I have one of those expandible dress forms that I bought about 12 years ago. Body sizes definitely are never alike, and the form only adjusts so much. I just kept adding folded fabric to the sections that I needed to adjust. Sometime hard to apply pins. This looks to be way easier thank you.

    I just bought a dress form and needed to add 3/4th of an inch to the chest and 1.5 inch to the waist. I found it really difficult to drape smoothly once the padding was added, although it's easy and enjoyable for me to drape on the form without the padding. It's really stressing me out, and making me regret not buying a size up. This was such a big investment for me. Do you have any tips on how to work with a padded dress form?
    Edit : let me be honest. I read some comment here about how the space between pads needed to be filled and ended up looking at other UA-cam videos, I shouldn't have. Just add the pads, do nothing else, and it works absolutely fine. Anything more complicated actually seems harder to work with. I now only use pads with a silky smooth service and it works fabulously

      Would you consider it's best to have different mannequin sizes? Or just get a small size and then pad? I bought a size 36 and I'm kinda regretting it... I could have just bought a smaller one and then pad it... 😓

      Sticky iron on interlining and steam over the top to compress it, or a stretch cover. Ive seen the interlining look better. Taylor the interlining like the original cover though for a better result. There's a vid. Best buying the right size first.

I am a mother, grand mother and a great grand mother . now I am happy to finally be able to make a dress or pants /waist in my size even if I do have to sew them my self. great video -oh by the way now I know what I was saving all those shoulder pads for lol . you just got a new subscriber out of just this one video. :)
