As far as the drip tray, probably like every few days. I kinda just empty it when I think about it, I don’t let it get full. As I’m sure youre aware you have to tilt the tray to remove it, so if basically you’re concerned it’ll overflow really quickly I wouldn’t be too worried, I haven’t had any issues personally.

    Hi Marc,
    Great video. I am planning the upgrade from an appliance to a machine. I mostly enjoy a double espresso with a range of specialty coffee. I also make the occasional milk drink. Currently I am torn between the value for money propositions from the Profitec - GO, ECM Classika PID and Profitec Pro 500 with PID. I like the look of a E61 group but it's not a dealbreaker. What would you recommend to best suite my needs and the difference in cost?
    Many thanks,
    Lucas

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  Рік тому +1

      Hey Lucas, If you don't do a lot of milk drinks then the ECM Classika PID with the E61 group equipped with flow control is the way to go. Flow control allows you to really work with those specialty coffees!: www.wholelattelove.com/collections/semi-automatic-espresso-machines/products/ecm-classika-pid-espresso-machine-with-flow-control
      Right now there's $200 off the Classika at Whole Latte Love. Check the owner reviews at the listing above.
      The GO is a good machine and value but doesn't have the finesse of the Classika. GO and Classika are single boiler machines so there's a wait for machine to come up to steaming temp for milk frothing. If you might be doing more milk drinks, then the Pro 500 has a much nicer workflow with no wait for steam, you can brew and froth simultaneously on the Pro 500.
      Hope that helps!

    • @anotherguycalledsmith
      @anotherguycalledsmith Рік тому +2

      In daily use, there is no difference in the handling of your machine that you could possibly notice.
      But in the long run, over several years, stainless steel is better because minerals in the water would not corrode any copper in the brass material… (since there ain’t any ;-)
      It is a _very_ German approach to have the safest material in place… Believe me, I am German and know how they are ticking ;-)
      If you take care of your brass boiler machine on a regular basis (whereas many people simply don’t), you won’t have any difficulties with your brass boilers either. _Preemptive descaling_ is important in this context ;-)
      Come on, take the German quality, you will not regret it…

    Hi mark we are a household of 2 I’m curious what your recommendation would be. I like the pro 500 but I like the quick heat up time of the bz13 I also have 18 inches clearance to consider for my cabinets. Is the cup warming temperature something to be worried about? Is there a certain clearance amount you would want between the top of the machine and your cabinets to avoid heat damage? Thank you for your time and great video as always

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  10 місяців тому

      Hi adam, You're welcome for the video. so the BZ13 is about 15"H and the Pro 500 about 16". I think heat damage is unlikely from either but might depend on cabinet material. Think the bigger issue is accessing the water reservoir from top of machine for filling. I don't have a good number for minimum distance other than I'd want to be able to easily access the water reservoir.
      Hope that helps!

    Mark, super informative video, as usual. I am trying to decide between the Bezzera BZ13 and the Profitec 500. Here are my questions: Is there a difference between the copper boiler of the former and the stainless steel boiler of the latter? My Bezzera Hobby burned out its heating element after two years...are either of these models more reliable than the other? Does the internal heating element of the BZ add a potential reliability issue over the E61? Finally, if I get the Profitec, I'd likely want to buy an outlet timer to start the heating up in advance. Do you have an appliance grade outlet timer you recommend or are there particular specs for an outlet to make sure it can handle the Profitec? Thanks!

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  Рік тому

      Hi Barry, thanks for the kind comment and question! Personally, I have no preference between boiler material types although stainless is less likely to get scale deposits but scale can be avoided in all types with proper water treatment. I like BWT water treatment products which exchange scale causing calcium in tap water with magnesium - that's preferable to traditional sodium based water softening. Sorry to hear about your Hobby element. In single boiler machines like the Hobby it's more likely to happen due to water quality issues and/or use issues like failing to cool down and refill the boiler after steaming. On HX boiler machines like the BZ13 and Pro 500 cool down and refill is not required so it's a more reliable design. I'd give a slight nod to the Pro 500 in terms of reliability. It's a simpler design than the BZ13 which has the group head heating and an additional solenoid valve for the group. That said, both are reliable units. I do not have a specific appliance grade timer I recommend. So many options out there. Just be sure to get one rated to handle the power requirements of the machine. A rating of 15amps covers either machine.
      Hope that helps!

    What size portafilter basket comes with the Profitec 400? And, if we change out to a bottom less portafilter from Profitec, does that also handle the same basket size as the one that came with the machine? Lastly, do you recommend one of those IMS screens as an upgrade to the included basket, or is the included screen perfectly fine? Thank you!

      Included filter baskets: They are listed as single 7g and double 14g. In reality max capacity is more like 9g and 18g depending on bean density. They are standard 58mm baskets.
      The bottomless PF will handle both baskets which come with machine.

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  Рік тому +1

      Hey LG, A cooling flush is generally required depending on time since last use. 30-40 seconds is crazy long! Usually more like 4-10 seconds. That's typical of machines like the Appartamento with heat-exchange boiler and pressurestat temp control. HX boiler machines with PID temp control usually require less flushing. When you do the flush observe water coming from the group. Flush until water coming from group is no longer bubbly (flash boiling) and flow smooths out. That'll get you a good temp for a lighter roast coffee. If brewing dark roast let the flush go a few seconds longer for a cooler brew temp.

      Hi HK, For the machines with E61 groups allow ~20 minutes for full warmup. The Bezzera BZ13 DE in the video has a heating element in the group head so it's ready to go in 10-15 minutes. If you'd like a machine all heated and waiting you can use appliance grade outlet timers to turn them on ahead of time.

    Those are admittedly basic HX models, let's do upper class review of the likes of ECM Technika V Pro PID, Rocket Mozza Chrono R, etc... PID controlled HX machines with rotary pumps. That would be rad! Thank you :-)

    Can you make a video showing the espresso machine that can make multiple drinks for a crowd of 10 or more? Plumbed and not plumbed..

    Worth the Pro500 vs 400?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  13 днів тому

      Hi dc, Thanks for the question. Both are excellent HX boiler machines. The Pro 500 has degree by degree control of boiler temperature while the Pro 400 operates in ranges. Most users probably go with the lower temp range for darker roasts, the middle setting for lighter roasts and kick to the high setting for extra steam power then return the setting to one appropriate for the roast level of their coffee. If you're the type that likes tighter control then the Pro 500 is worth it. If you're likely to use the same coffee all the time and probably will not play with temps all that much then the Pro 400 is less expensive. Hope that helps!

      Dear David, pretty much all machines Marc is recommending are from Germany ;-)
      Once you are owning an ECM or Profitec, you will know why…
      My _ECM Synchronika_ is a “life-changing experience” for several months by now ;-)

      How about dual boilers AND HX?
      Combine these two design principals and make sure that you have a PID, - this is _much_ more important ;-)

    Kind of sad that Profitec and Bezzera don't have as much of an interest selling their products outside of America. Not wholly unsurprising that even in a industry where European countries produce some of the better products, the people living there somehow get the shaft. Kind of used to it by now, but no less disappointing to constantly hear.
