I had the opportunity to meet Robert Forster. We were both at a screening of a movie. After the movie we walked to the place where the after party was supposed to be. We got a little lost. During this whole time we chatted. His wife was with him too. Really nice guy. Very friendly. No ego whatsoever. We finally found the place and walking with him that night was more special than the party! I had another chance to see him again after that. Once again a very friendly guy. I was shocked to hear that he had died. Too early. RIP.
I met Robert Forster at a grocery store in Los Angeles 20 years ago. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.
Creepy!!!! I remember reading about this exact same story a long time ago... This was just posted two days ago though
@@chrisspring5346 that story is not true. I read the same thing about Boris Becker, I mean the exact same story. Maybe just a running gag, to switch the celebrity and tell this story
@@noisez Yeah same!!
It's a copypasta. People just switch the name of the celebrity involved.

Pam Grier was so perfect for this role. It's not really shown all here but she absolutely kills it in this film.

I went to a restaurant the other day and “streetlife” was playing. I immediately thought of Jackie brown
ALLY S Also used in the opening credits if Sharkey's Machine with Burt Reynolds. Love ❤️ it.
I would’ve too
This plot was so brilliant that I failed to comprehend it the first time I watched the movie, some 20 years ago. Having watched it recently for the second time, I like the movie even more now. Putting a "cherry on top" for Melanie in the bag was a very subtle but vital detail, because Melanie having the marked bills on her sealed the story Jackie told the police.
I think it was also Jackie's way to dissuade Melanie from looking in the bag, trying to grab a stack for herself maybe.
Very observant. The key thing that I think lots of people overlook is that from the very beginning, for Jackie's plan to work, Ordell HAD to die.
@@JmsNmnn Jackie isn't stupid she knew Melanie may look in the bag and she'd be fucked if Melanie checked it before leaving the dressing room because once out in public Melanie and Louis can't check the bag. Jackie is the real MVP she planned this, played off the ATF, Ordell and his minnions then fucked off with a half a mill and her freedom and no comeback! Pam Grier deserved an Oscar for this she was outstanding and she had great chemistry with Samuel L Jackson. I wish she makes another movie with Tarantino she's a fanstastic actress
The look Luis gives Melanie is so potent. You could just tell he’s reached his limits end with her. Also when he snags the bag from her and says “I knock you the fuck out”. Deniro is masterful here.
I watched this movie 10+ years ago and felt lost. I think I will give it another go.
A masterpiece that never got its due.
.
I actually prefer reading Leonard to seeing the movies, as I can create in my own head through the fiction better than any movie. With Leonard, it's all in the dialogue.
1000% Right up there with QT's best work
Wish it had been better received. Might have saved QT from the awful rabbit hole of terrible movies he's been making ever since. A great talent squandered on absurd dross.
@@TheDavidfallonso you think every Tarantino movie after Jackie Brown is bad?
5:17 that fist flinch by deniro was awesome. She didn't expect that in the scene. You can tell that it wasn't written like that.
Yes! It looked like he REALLY wanted to hit her... lol
"KNOCK you the fuck out.."
De niro is genius !! we knew it already but every scene with him I see again, it appears more.. his facial expressions are SO good!!! goes from funny to scary in the blink of an eye..
This movie is so good - doesn't get the love it deserves
Agreed! I rate this over Pulp Fiction barely. If this is 99,Pulp Fiction is 98.9.
Well it’s not like it’s some hidden gem you’ve discovered, it gets plenty of love
I was at Del Amo mall back in 2002, bought this film on DVD from a DVD store there, took it back to the cruise ship I was working on at the time, put the film on and was shocked to see that a large part of the film is set in that very mall. What was even crazier was that I'd eaten lunch that day about 10 feet from where they shot the scene in the food court. Quite a head fuck.
godisbollocks I grew up in Torrance, when I was a kid my grandfather would take me to the Del Amo mall to go play at the video arcade. I’m glad Tarantino filmed a lot of this movie in Torrance and the Del Amo mall, brings back a lot of my childhood memories.
Did ye aye
What frame are you at in the food court scene?
@Cool Waters it's here completely remodeled a few years back
@Cool Waters At some point it was acquired by the Westfield company, the location is still there, but it has been remodeled to the new era. This film pretty much preserves of what I remember the mall used to look like.
7:52 I truly believe the synchronization of Robert Forester, Robert De Niro and Bridget Fonda leaving after the exchange would have been great in the movie, especially when De Niro shoots Bridget in the parking lot and at the same time Forester looks up at the exit like maybe he heard something and made him want make sure he was in the clear.
@MintyFreshTurds, WOW:0
"Are you sweating? Is this a little too much for you?" Bridget Fonda is so good in this scene. Pam Grier too.
Robert Forster and Pam Grier were magical in this movie. Definitely Oscar worthy performances.
Obvious acting at 1:22.
No way that guy would pass a woman like Pam Grier without stealing a second glance.
This is the ONE Tarantino film I can watch over and over. Iconic performances and everything comes together.
1:08. I love how Jackie is walking to the beat of the music. She looks badass, strong and confident. Woman on a mission.
Loved her character.
Ugly as hell too
Nah, she just looks like someone who's trying hard to *project* strength and confidence.
Authentic strength and confidence is far less overt.
Awesome movie, though!
thought she was just walking..
Din't see any of that.
Vastly underrated film. Brilliant.
Jackie drives the same honda civic as butch in pulp fiction

I had always wondered why Tarantino didn't play a cameo in this film like most of his others. Then I realized one day watching this movie, that the robotic voice on Jackie's answering machine was Tarantino's!
He kinda stopped acting after from dusk til dawn. Aside from Django
It's amazing in how many ways Louis messes up his relatively simple task. While everyone in this scene acts more or less efficiently, he is basically overwhelmed with every single thing happening around him. What an idiot. :D
Haha. I just we re-watched and almost died when he was having trouble opening the door on the van. And then he stalls it on the way out.

Clementine Washburn got it. I misheard it. I thought she was referring to their short sex scene from a little bit earlier. Would’ve been funny, but DeNiro’s expression is still priceless.
I saw that that look too looked like like he was gonna pop her right there in the store
"See? Just where I said it was !", best acting ever :D
God, the whole thing gets so tense in that middle bit where he's going into the change room, it felt like he was going to get shot or something. Nice job.

That's awesome. Even while re-watching this and knowing the outcome I'm still on the edge of my seat. The music really puts you in the actor's shoes. I know that style music would be running through my head if I was trying to pull this off.

Thanks. This is one of my favorite movies and I've watched this sequence a hundred times. I'm glad it was shot from the different characters' perspectives, but this chronological perspective makes a perfect companion piece.
It also shows how genius Tarantino is cause it all made sense
It's crazy watching it like this. It's almost like Max heard the shots.
Amazing editing with all the split screens! Very enjoyable watching this part of the film in this way!

I am so happy that Jackie ended up with all the money in the end. She deserved it and her happy ending after all she has been through in her life.
Great work adding the 3 different scenes into the Money Exchange.
Two things you can count on Tarantino to do:-
1) Make you fall in love with music even if its stuff you may have heard before
2) Make you want to eat stuff even if its stuff you may have eaten before

Nice work, James! Thanks for taking the time to put it together. It was a lot of fun to watch!
Yes, that's really clever, I was hoping someone would deconstruct that scene. The sequence in the original blows my mind every time. I get lost in it like DeNiro. You reveal it is really a lot simpler than it seems, and at the same time more meaningful. There are mirrored parallels between the the storyline of the two "couples." Thanks.
Different partners in crimes.
As a big fan of Pam Grier, I absolutely love this movie from A to Z.
I hate it!
A nice culo too.
VERY cool video! My favorite Tarantino film ever. I even named my pit bull Jackie Brown. Seriously I did. Great film and a great soundtrack. This is fantastic! I have never seen it like this before. The timing on the gun shots how Max looked up immediately following the second shot as though the echo of the first just reached him like he hears the shots and looked back for a second. NEVER would've out that together without this video! Thanks!
OMG, DeNiro is so hilarious as he's so damn serious with Bridget Fonda. I LOVED this Tarantino movie; music, script, acting, the whole damn thing. Thanks, James for the upload! :)
O, damn. I thought it was actually presented this way in the film. It's been a while. Very nice and effective edit.
Thank you so much for this video ! This Parallel Edit is amazing !
Fun Fact - Apparently Quentin said that to plan this whole sequence it took him almost 6 months to write it all out and when it was time to shoot, he had gone through it so many times they got it all shot in around a day hah!!...
Surprise Max didn’t hear them 2 gunshots still amazed me 😂🤣🤣
Max parked right outside the Billingsley exit. Louis and Melanie parked somewhere else, they had to take the elevator. That's why they took longer to get in and out.
Yes, I didn't realize about that until I saw this video. He must have heard those shots.
dont be. city background noise drowns out gunshots.
Nico yes it drowns out some shots from activity during Daylight most days . Except for the time we were doing Line Work in a Neighborhood and down the Block I heard a Dog barking and a Shotgun blast . I am a Deer Hunter so a Shotgun going off is normally a Happy sound , But not in the city in Broad daylight . We had some young kids working with us who were smart ass Punks so I made my way down the block expecting that they set some thing off . No the guy was sick of the Dog barking that the Kids stirred up and just up and shot it . Every time I drive past that street I think of the incident from a Day at work a couple Decades ago and shake my head Remembering those Kids I worked with . They never learned ! ha ha
Max was probably still in the mall as he was leaving with the bag when Melanie got shot so he didn't hear the gunshots.
Love this movie. Watch it every time it's on a premium channel. This was awesome synchronizing the scenes. Cool
Great work James. Thanks.

the money is a mcguffin, but not a useless one
Watched this movie for the 2nd time ever the other night. Shits incredible. Doesn’t get nearly enough recognition it should
I actually think it's his best movie. At least the most rewatchable.
It has the unfortunate luck of being sandwiched between Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill
Melanie did everything that she could to try and cause chaos then zip away with the bag. But she actually underestimated what could happen. Jackie ACTS like it’s no big deal…but she knows it is.
This has GOT to be one of my favorite videos on youtube. it's why this website exists
I do recognize that the scenes were filmed at the old mall next to San Francisco State University. Thanks for sharing memories!
3:13 that look XD
And the sudden cut back to Jackie looking at herself in the mirror, trying to steel herself up for what she's about to do. That sharp contrast between the nonsensical, childish bickering between Melanie and Louis and Jackie's quiet contemplation is incredibly effective.
Remember, she's already an expert at hiding and smuggling stuff in close quarters!
Why?

Because that was her job for Samuel L Jackson's character in this movie. She had to smuggle his money back and forth so she has experience

I love Jackie Brown! It's one of my favorite Tarantino movies. The scene with Louis shooting Melanie cracks me up everytime. Why would she keep annoying a very bad tempered, unstable man like that lol?
Hawaiian Pizza Advocate ikr!! Lol Louissssssss....😄😄😄
She had no idea he was a suicidal lunatic. It's funny, I remember her being much, MUCH more annoying leading up to her shooting. Nothing she was doing or saying was worth the risk he incurred on himself by throwing her around the store, much less shooting her.
She would annoy her man, the gun dealer( Jackson), and nothing bad happened. With the Louis character( de Niro), her hotness only goes that far.
De Niro is Tarantino's Joker.
Just 'cause with Melanie:
"You get what you fucking deserve!"

De Niro’s ‘cunt’ under his breath is so well timed

Jackie was doin recon on the scene prior to the exchange. Jackie knows Melanie's type. Jackie knew they would be late. She knew Melanie's temperament, spoiled, entitled, reckless, mouthy...when cash this big gets moved, Jackie knew someone would be killed. She didnt account for Ordell killing Louis, but she got them all out of the way. Brilliant.
