I still have that email, and I resented him for awhile, but it ultimately pushed me to actually learn to program rather than rely on pre-made assets and scripts. I never did get to see the stream where Vinny played my "game" unfortunately. Being 13, I had school and stuff, and this was before the Full Sauce channel existed.

Here’s hoping The Quest for Sausage will be good!! It’s something that’ll be sold, I believe, so it’s a shame we won’t be getting pop culture references or memes (or at least I’d assume), but I guess we’ll see what’ll happen.
“What I’m about to say might be a bit of a controversial statement.” *Proceeds to say one of the most normal statements I’ve heard throughout last year and the start of this year.*
I want to clear something up because I feel like a lot of people are confused on the subject. Fantaria: The Quest for Sausage only shares its vague themes, characters and world with the original Le Fantabulous Game. Otherwise, it is completely its own thing and a “legitimate” game, not an egglike. Great video, especially for your first. I would’ve liked to see you go a bit more in depth though, just overall. It also would have been nice if you went over games like Weed Chase as well, because without some of the smaller, but still known, games, I don’t think you can get the accurate and full picture of the egglike genre.
If you were to define an egglike to me it exists as a first person exploration game of what it felt like to wander geocities. Areas having the mishmash of the creator's interests and thoughts, what they think is funny and in general is fun to them. Each page/area being entirely different and customized to their thoughts on the subject, and how goofy each area ended up is really what attracted me to them.
honestly it seems like a case of irony-fatigue with the brilliant game and all the other clones. when things are treated as too ironic you start to lose the earnest care you actually felt about it. the sequence goes one of two ways. start with irony, the ‘its so bad its good!’ kind of stuff. then it splits off into the reclamation of care, yeah its funny and its silly but you actually care about it, it may be weird and stupid but its still art, you make it more engaging, and you are free to make it rough around the edges because of the ironic origins. OR you can go the other way, clown on it until its just an echo of a joke with no actual substance.
I only recently found this video, it's very good! I think egglikes are the closest to outsider art in video games. It's rare to get those, since games are typically a pretty open medium (with little appreciation for the art from the players...), so there are a lot of indie games made by people without a game developer's skillset. I think egglikes are outsider art where said indie games aren't due to their defiance of video game conventions.
