One of the greatest manages of all time, Rinus Michels (credited for the restructure of Dutch football in the 60s) said, in order to improve the standard of football in the Netherlads we must move away from ameturism. No doubt the Dutch punch above thier wieght, but its down to a well structured system. Here lack of resources on all levels mean, poor coaching, poor scouting and for those who have the UEFA badges wont get a job here because its ameture. Just imagine all the talented kids not noticed or at least not given decent coaching. I've seen players destined to make it but, were in fact victims of the system.I believe Irish footballs darkest days are a generation away, lets hope im wrong though.
I just think we need to change our structure for the future of our young players in the next generation, we just haven’t had this for many years. We were popular at the time under Jack, expect Jack who chose eligible players outside of Ireland and most Irish players played from a schoolboy club in Dublin,Cork,Donegal exc. But,players who were playing in their Gaelic football career they have a choice either they want to play Gealic football or soccer. Not in the league of Ireland I thought they did that before I just couldn’t remember when a player who played in the league of Ireland.I’d like to see it happens when the time is right which means it’s good for the country and the league itself. Any country in the world has to have a system,a league,an association,a development this is why we’re missing.
#askthepanel Why are Ireland sending their players abroad. Why not have centres of excellences and a top class league in Ireland? If Irish Rugby can do it Irish soccer can to. Why not unite the clubs and have a league with the 4 provinces it for example. 10s of thousands of people would go to those matches hence more money for facilties and player wages to keep them in Ireland etc. etc.
fraz6354 I said 'for example' Well if that didn't suit you could have 2 teams per province an 8 team league for example. Better to have quality than quantity I think. How many teams really compete for the English premiership anyway, at max 4. Anything would be worth trying than the situation we've been automatically doing for the last 50+ years. How well has that worked out for us? I think it's about time we lost this 'little country syndrome'. I thought we were supposed to be 'Independent' anyway.
The thing is though, the Irish rugby teams play in a league with Irish, Scottish, Welsh and Italian teams, it's not an Irish league. That's never going to happen in football.
fraz6354 The Irish rugby teams could easily set up their own league anyway, they just do that out of convenience and to try out new players. They often put out B teams in that league and the real matches are the in equivalent to the Champions league. The same could be done in Football. Scotland have their own league for example and they have a similar population etc. Denmark won the European championship - a country with its own league and a lower population. How do you know it'll never happen? Can you see the future? What's the harm in trying it out? Anything is worth trying out - can be worse than the current situation.

I think home grown talent should be paramount in Ireland because of national identity
What has the CEO of this organisation done to address these issues?
Far too controversial for safe Darragh. Wanted to move on as quickly as possible. Bill would have stirred it even more.
Sadlier hasent a clue
Sadlier schooled again....
he's an overpaid media jobber
It's the same everywhere. I've worked in England and Wales, and the same problems I've witnessed are the same ones mentioned here and in the comments.
Its to stop. Our players sold for pittance... To foreign clubs. No investment going back to our clubs
