    That's only half the picture though. He did lead Ireland to the first Euros since 1988, but when they qualified the performances were appalling. If I had known they would perform like that after they qualified I would actually rather they hadn't qualified. We were humiliated. As for the play off game against France, the reality is that it was only when the players ignored his rigid system of playing in the game in Paris that we came close to qualifying. He also treated some players very badly.

    Ireland should be careful what they wish for, Trapattoni led Ireland to their first European Championship since 1988 and only the second in their history.
    They were also robbed in qualifying for the World Cup in 2010.
    It's ironic that expectations have been raised enough to sack the the very man that raised them in the first place.
    Trapattoni is a victim of his own success.

    Giles and Dunphy talk a lot of rubbish.
    Liam Brady is a bit too negative about the team, but Giles and Dunphy are not realistic at all.
