- Nothing I love more than targeting the biggest smallmouths in the river. The Scooby Doo rig has earned me over 50 post spawn river smallmouth at 20"or more. And is what I have found to be the most effective way to fish a wide variety of soft plastics in moving water and in and around structure. From bottom bouncing boulders and timber....to swinging through grass. Big smallmouth love this rig.

Appreciate the way you treat the fish!! Wish everyone did as you do.
Nice! Brings back memories of fishing creeks that feed the Hudson. I think Sally has many sisters 😂
Just stumbled across your channel. I can really see how careful you are with the fish and I appreciate it. I subscribed
Beautiful handling and release. sr.
Beautiful fishing and release.
That is a very nice setup. Stella on a Steez. I was kind of wondering why you had a spinning rig until I took a good look And also probably the finest fish handling I've seen in a video. Well done video, why not make more fishing videos?
Love your vids, thanks for making one on the scooby rig
Keep in mind....the 2 rigs in this video are differnt than the "scooby through rig"
The first rig in this video is a far superior alternative to weighted wacky hooks.
The second rig is in my opinion superior way to ned rig or even shackey head.
All are more snag resistant than jig head. and are at their best bottom bouncing rocky rivers and lakes.
James Zambito who puts that handle on a Stella smh dude
What's wrong with it. The Magnesium Yumeya handle is a better quality fit and finish handle than what's stock. And it balances better. I can just flick the handle and it will bring in 20 feet of line due to it's balance. I hate single grip handles on small spinners. I especially dislike the t handle knobs. I find a way to put double paddle handles on all my fw spinners. I don't understand why more don't come stock that way. The cheap spirex had it for a decade. Baitcasters have em.

Awesome.... need to head up to that river for smallies again.
For sure.....No filming on this river though...this is my super secret decoder ring spot :)
yeah no spot burning for me. I have some fishing videos all cued up and ready to go. Nowhere do I mention the spot other than maybe "Raritan Bay" which is a huge place.
Been wading small creeks and rivers of East and middle Tn and the ozarks of Missouri for 50 yrs or so and imo smallmouth bass on ultralight tackle are about as good as it gets,,and the occasional 5 or 6 pounder are a real challenge, especially if they get some current to work with,,,about the only lures i ever take is a little old plano mini mag box full of rooster tails and a rebel crawfish crankbait the wee model or teeny wee crawfish..a few hooks and some small splitshot come in handy when the hellgrammites are plentiful, i like to get into some big redeye or goggleye as they are called in the ozarks,, about as good eating fish as any imo,,recent slot limits and bigger size limits on smallmouths in and aroound streams that feed dale hollow lake have really brought some truly trophy size smallmouths into many of the Tn streams and rivers that feed the lake,,,lol one never knows when the next world record just might be in the next big hole around the bend,,,wadefishing is fun , cheap and hardly ever gets boring, a real gift from god imo.
I agree. I miss being able to hop on a smallie trip anytime since I moved down to GA from the NC mountains. There's a very similar looking fish down here that I've yet to go after that I really want to give a try called a Shoal Bass. Maybe I'll get around to that soon.
Nice Stella reel!
There's a reoccurring smallie in there that you can't seem to catch? I also have an arch nemesis smallie in one of my local lakes. He's broke me off multiple times over the years. I recognize him by a nick in his tail. One of these days I will get jim
Yes! Thank You for sharing! Love me some Bronzebacks, you Sir, just made my day. Your reel reviews are off the charts, two thumbs up. I am going to research these rigs more in depth. I strive to learn and utilize new techniques @ #broadenmyhorizins

Nice video I live in NC so not to much small mouth where I'm at so only lmb fishing for me, but I always go to Missouri to visit my dad and we always do so me small mouth fishing in the rivers and creek so much fun! Keep up the good work and btw I love the way you handle your fish
My biggest smallmouth was a 22 incher out of a stream smaller than this one, and it was one of the sketchiest fights I've ever had against a fish. You're right they are a different breed.
I know that rock, spot burn! lol
nice video!
LOl...you and 2 other people :) Hey remember that go pro glitch with your 50" musky that I had......same thing happened at the baller hole when I hooked and got beat by sallly later in the day.
Tackle Advisors we'll never forget your camera glitch for my 50" muskie! Thank God mine was working fine!
I bet that setup feels amazing!
It is! Too bad that rod is such a well kept secret. Nobody carries this model and it was't even listed on their website for the first year it was out...and it's spectacular! Me and my buddy traded off he has a stella NRX combon and we both agree the steez fishes better while handling a wider range of baits
What reel are you using?
cool little rig.... definitely would be willing to give it a try
Looks interesting! will have to try it
The waters I fish are similar to what you're fishing here. I'm about to try using braid on something other than a catfish setup for the first time. How long do you make your leaders?
I am thinking about searching put one of these ags guide rods. Something else caught my eye however, have you had experience with the edge rods by g. Loomis?
I like your videos and would subscribe if it wasn't for the fact that all your gear is out of my range. We (my friends and I) fish on budgets. I try and keep up buying a little tackle that you recommend, but your gear is out of the question. Your rod is worth more than all my rods and reels and tackle combined. I would like to see more content on our budget level for us to subscribe.
Do you know Lenny the guy that maintains the locks?
Straight braid?
Yes I can see great technic, casting whit the left hand and reeling whit the left hand ,how many time a day you rod change from left to right side??????
New subscriber. Love the scooby do/through rig. Would you tell me what reel you are using in this video...and...can the handle be moved to right handed retrieve?
Hey man!! Awesome! I was using a 3000 Shimano Stella FI in this vid.
Tackle Advisors- how do you like the Daiwas AGS line guides? I just bought a JDM-Daiwa Labrax 10'6 with the AGS line guides and can't wait to see how they transmit the feel onto the rest of the rod.
That's a rod i was looking at. I went tailwalk hi tid tz to give torzites a try. My friend at cooking and fishing I think just got the labrax. I get daiwa rods at a discount. I think I paid 300 for them or around there. At that price they are the best rods ever made for that price. At full retail price. The two that I have are more capable than the nrx rods. Balance better. And in the case of the spinner. Cover 2 rods just as well. They are two of some of the best rods i've ever owned. When you cast it you'll hear a difference. If you've ever fished an inteline rod. That's sort of what you feel on the retrieve with any sort of tension. Very unique. I hope you enjoy it! I've bushwacked some serious backwaters..and the guides have proved very durable. As have the rods. They've taken some abuse and are no worse for wear. NOt sayin a SS alconite or anything fuji would not have held up. But it is good to see the carbon fiber frames hlding up.
Thank you for the quick response. I always learn so much from your videos. Not to change the subject but do you have a video on the new 2017 TwinPower XD reels(inshore) yet? What is the difference between those and the SW(salt water-offshore) models? Which would you recommend??? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
@@TackleAdvisors sorry to get on such late video, but you know anywhere I could locate an interline casting rod? 7' mh. Like the model Davy Hite used back in the day. Thank you
Tackle Advisors- do you know of a JDM contact that I can get a hold of these AGS guides. One of my AGS guides(the actual carbon fiber material) started to come apart. Thank you!
No I don't....I assume it's covered under warranty no???
fantastic handling of the fish! wow... hate to say it, but that is rare for "youtubers" much respect to ya buddy... 👊🏼
Right now on my screen...as I type I see 4 videos on the right hand side "up next" column...and I cringe looking at each one. It's amazing how fisherman love fishing so much and chase big fish....yet every F'ing time they handle their catch like angry gorrillas....
hahaha nail on the head.... i am a trout nerd and i would say 95% of trout vids are absolutely painful... next spring me and my buddy are starting a guide service in the Sierra
Nevada mountains and our main goal is teaching proper catch and release... and we carry the same ethics in our bass fishing as well, respect for nature is of the utmost importance!
can you do a maintenance video on zillion reels? I have the older silver one and the new sv tws, if not I can look other places. I just trust you're knowledge of tackle over all others
Hey Jake, Thanks for the kind words. Unfortunately I don't have any more new or old zilliions to take apart I sold off my old ones and the one new one I had briefly (the new one was a prototype). If you want you can send me yours and I'll service them using my krytox formulation and get em back out quickly. And post the vid using your reels
Tackle Advisors I would appreciate that very much man, my email is jakieorr@gmail.com. don't make fun of my email lol I've had it since I was 14. have you ever thought of tearing into the kastking speed demon? I have one that I took off a rod because it was very inconsistent with the casts, if you're interested I'd send that as well. when you have time just email me the info on where I need to send it and the cost. thanks again brother, im still trying to figure out how you don't have more subs then the googan fags
Sounds great! Once I finish gearing up and eating, I'll ping ya. I've received quite a few requests to do the speed demon. If you don't mind sending that one. I'd kill a flock of birds with one stone.
Check out first state fishing's channel.....that kid's growth boggles my mind. My vids are kinda boring for the youngins.....Something I kinda need to work on.
Daiwa Steez and Shimano Stella.
Scooby doo rig save alot of my money and I don't need to buy jighead and spent lot of money on them. Thanks
Charley sheen is that you?
What reel are you using with a baitcaster handle? I like that handle on a spinning reel. The only one I can find is a shimano. Not a fan of that reel.
+Steve Tucker it's a magnesium handle from yumeya on a Stella FI
blingy
Nice fish
Do you use flat dental floss ?
are you referring to the rig or line? fins 40g 5lb braid i the mainline. The rig is 14lb fireline original.
@@TackleAdvisors the rig
I think that was Suzie
lol
What reel is that
Is the color of the worm you are using morning dawn?
I think it's Aaron's magic, or purple weenie..I'll double check.
Tackle Advisors cool thank you
What reel is that??
You cast left handed but retrieve right handed?
Yup...with spinners I flip flop hands between cast and retrieve. Always have always will. Baitcasters I retrieve right handed.
It makes sense for you to retrieve BC with your right bc you throw left handed lol. Since I throw with my right; I reel left handed.
nice fish
Thanks man!
thought you used diawa steez
The rod is....I call it the unicorn. As it is impossible to find to buy
7'6 steez ags M-ML
oh
Sick stick....only complaint is the guide layout could have been tested and optimized a bit for braid.
Sorry to be "that guy" but a tiny stream is one you can step across.
I agree with you. But tiny stream in UA-cam standards is anything smaller than the Mississippi.. :)
found it.
What state is this in?
This line 🈹️🉐️🈲️ noise is really awfull
Me and my dad had a big Bertha was a monster rainbow trout that we pulled out of a hole that she stayed in managed to avoid us for about a year and a half would see her every time we go out even though we caught trout to eat them we had to let her go a fish that live to get that is big as she did deserve to continue going
