I am a novice. For the past couple of years, I have been planting in 18-gal totes. I plant 4 pepper plants or 2 Zucchini or 2 tomato plants or 4 potatoes in each tote. But I need to fertilize them heavily and more frequently.
I also drill a dozen or so holes about an inch from the bottom of a tote. I place shredded paper, dry leaves and twigs in the bottom, which eventually break down. The bottom 1" retains water and allows roots to keep moist via wicking. My biggest challenge though is to empty the totes early spring to rejuvenate the growing medium. This year, I will also be using grow bags and "chicken wire towers" for the first time. Using identical soil/compost mixture and fertilizer routine I will be able to see if air-pruning of roots really makes a difference as some have claimed.

I got a bunch of 55 gallon barrels for free and cut them in half. the tomatoes I grew last year out grew their oversized custom cages.
I also got a dozen 275 gallon IBC totes and cut them 1/3 by 2/3 for raised planters that I can move around with my tractor.

    They are called cattle tubs?

They are mineral lick tubs for cattle. They once were full of a mineral paste

I use the compost and manure too! Great video and good instructions on how to fill the containers, thanks! Fire ants are the devil!

Tacky doesn’t bother me at all. Food is what’s important

Would you use potting soil i a 5 gallon container for a miniature tree?

Aesthetically pleasing is wonderful and expensive! Lol. I’m more into functionality. I grow in mineral tubs as well. My tomatoes don’t care where they grow. 💜

I picked up some cheap plastic kids; buckets so I can have enough containers to plant all the seeds I want to plant this spring

There is spray paint for plastic for one color aesthetics if wanted. Nice. Thank you.

Oh good idea! I also forgot to mention in the video that cedar boards could be used to dress them up for kind of a half barrel look
