That was hilarious lol. I don't understand why you would hammer the damn thing against the fretboard either xD surprised it didn't chip whamming it so hard.
“Carefully tap it.” - Smashed “Firmly grasp it!” - Impaled Same energy. Thanks for making this video. It’s exactly what I was looking for. Much appreciated!
Why a locking nut on a non-locking system? I love the sound affects, smash, crash.etc. And always predrill and lubricate your screws...! Please use this video as a reference point of what not to do! This message has been brought to you by the make luthiers great again foundation!
My reason would be for subtle use of trem when detuning chord. The different string distance behind nut makes one string change pitch differently than others, within the same tremolo bend range, making the chord goes out of tune. The locking nut eliminate that, allowing the chord to detune, since the relationship between string are detuning equally for the same tremolo travel
Finally a decent guitar repair video for fucks sake! Spent 30 minutes trying to look up this repair and all I can get are posts saying “welp buy a new guitar”
I suppose you could just keep adding shims under it if there is fretbuzz anywhere on the neck.. I'm not an expert at ALL but I do think that the string height at the nut is very important and would be different on different styles of guitar, so a "one height fits all" locking nut doesn't seem possible.
were can I find the new screws for the first piece? mine are now stripped. and were to find better mini screw drivers that dont get used also. damn crap.
Those look like glasses screws, so maybe they might fit in a glasses repair kit, IDK. If the holes are what's stripped you can put wood or epoxy in the holes.
That is very true,I'm away to attempt this on my ibenez s521 it has the plastic shite nut on I'm wanting it off and replace it with the same R4 floyd rose nut, only thing I'm abit worried about is height!! What would u do about it,will it cause fret buzz
One of my locking block and nut came off when I was tuning the guitar and will not go back on. The one with the thickest (E and A) strings. It will go on if I take the E string out. So it is not stripped. Tried swapping screws. It is a new Ibanez Steve Vai signature Pia. I have a US Kramer Pacer Custom I bought in 1987 and never had this problem. Anyone have any idea why it is not going on or any tricks to put it back on?
I really love the video but hey start using torx screws this will ABSOLUTELY save you A million curses and the torx screws can be screwed and unscrewed indefinite no more flipping out that Philips head wounding yourself in the process
"Take a chisel. Carefully tap it..." BANG BANG BANG lol
That was hilarious lol. I don't understand why you would hammer the damn thing against the fretboard either xD surprised it didn't chip whamming it so hard.
@@PomPomMeowMeow “Dont cut your hands” scrapes razor blade towards his fingers, not away.
He left out the part where he bandaged the cuts to his hands
@@RichardCheese6969lol I missed that one. I do that all the time for at least a few seconds.
Probably the most chaotic luthier video I’ve ever seen 😂

Carefully :D BOOm BOOM BOOM! :D:D:D

"Dumbledore said calmly."
“carefully tap the nut” *uses hammer to bang it off*
“Carefully tap it” haha
A perfect video demonstrating precisely what not to do.

I agree why use a locking nut with a tremolo without fine tuners?!?!?!
why? lol well why do you think? he probably put on a floyd right? lol

Jeeesus, even the “slabs” were installed wrong
String height? Shim? How do you measure string height at the locking nut?
I suppose you could just keep adding shims under it if there is fretbuzz anywhere on the neck.. I’m saying he has the locking pads all sideways, he’s a joke doesn’t even realize they are radiused. 🤦🏻♂️
@@ronnieparfait Holy shit, I had to go back and check it out! Man, this guy is a clown!
a bite higher than the fret lol that's all focks.
So, if you don't have tuners on your bridge, how tf do you fine tune it after you lock the strings at the nut? I doubt you play much.
And how you’re going to fine tune the strings with locking nut?
With the Floyd rose.
What is the tool he used to get the screws into the wood
What do you do if you tighten down the nut on the strings and it pulls it sharp with no fine tuners on the bridge?
you need a retainer bar, kinda like strimg trees, but the bar goes over all ghe strinfs
It was at this point he realized... he fucked up.
@@sippy9387 did you mean "String Cheese"?
@@sippy9387 that makes no sense. Why have lock but not use lock. Waste of time.
what about the height of the new nut?
Fuck that
You installed your locking pads sideways chief.

Looks like it had a Kalher nut before. I really like that Schaller bridge.
This is how NOT to install a locking nut… Holy shit LOL
How do you manage to tune with strings locked and no fine tuners ?????? LOL
I close the video when he said "take a chisel" LOL
This was mildly entertaining😀👍

Hi! This video should help you!😅😂🤣
Hey can i put locking nut to a guitar with out tremolo? just fixed bridge ( Harley Benton WL20)
As long as you don’t do it like I do it in this video, yes.
@@KRAZEEIZATION if u search my guitar, trustrod is at the head
@@Stagmike I’d leave it as is to be honest. I no longer use locking systems. Too much trouble trust me!
@@KRAZEEIZATION just to lock strings, I won't put Floyd rose or any other tremolo, I have fixed bridge
@@Stagmike Just buy locking tuners , that's all you need !
Take out the hammer and belt the livin shite out of it!
Wow. Good luck tuning that.
Can you put it on any guitar like a ibenez s521!! Mate
man you deserve way more likes
Too bad they got rid of the dislikes 👎
your locking pads are going tje wrong way the top should the other vertical

Hahahaha oh my god,no shim no measuring no lubricant on the bolts wow pure rough as fuk man,I bet u have some frett buzz there 100% mate,
É estranho pois essa guitarra parece não possuir tensor para regular o braço
And now how do you plan on tuning it? lol
Yeaaaaa, soooo, what you're sayin is "I don't give a fiddler's fuck about this guitar", or "I play punk and GG Allin was overrated....hold my beer"
El título debiese ser "como no instalar un locking nut".
The bolt on E string should be a little longer..
Why are you getting so harsh to that innocent guitar..!🥺
Se saca al revés...del lado del diapasón un golpecito seco y sale...mal hecho
